I hadn't seen a movie since 2022 and only really watched Michael Mann stuff like Heat and Chinese martial arts flicks like Ip Man, with some comedies thrown in like Superbad.

I saw Bresson's Lancelot Du Lac and County Priest 3 weeks ago and these are the greatest things I've ever seen in my life, better than any show and any anime or manga I've read. I'm 34 and feel inspired to get involved in the filmmaking process and draw now. I'm a NEET who failed to get a job as an engineer even with an engineering degree and started volunteering at a theater and met some people who were interested in hiring me as an audio tech trainee. Some of the women are pretty, too. I wrote this post out to laugh at myself and hopefully get a chuckle out of others, but if it wasn't for Bresson I'd probably be rewatching Gurren Lagann while sitting at my computer. This audio engineer is giving me a rundown on power supplies right now and how Logisys sucks ass. What the fuck has happened to my life? I still have hope it seems.

Personally every scene with Nicholson and Dunaway/Huston was on another level compared to the rest of the film. It also, dare I say it, dragged at times.
>>
>>205901379
Covid was psychological warfare.
Was it advanced? Technologically, absolutely, the way "correct" narratives were coming from all sources of public communication, news media and social media, simultaneously, coordinated and corrected practically in real time was of course both impressive and disturbing. But psychologically it was the same old thing that focused on our natural conformism: disinformation, deception, gaslighting, peer pressure. Nothing groundbreaking.
Ukraine is psychological warfare.
It's deeply ironic that covid died the day the Ukraine war started. But it also shows us that narratives come from the same source, in fact from one single source that is vast and powerful enough to handle all news media and social media as a monolithic entity and change its direction in a matter of hours. Technologically, it's extremely impressive. Psychologically, the methods are identical to the covid psyop, identical to those used on smaller scales for millennia. You can see for yourself, the psyop is still ongoing. Browse /pol/ for a while. Alien elements trying to psyop their psyops are extremely obvious, as obvious as people doing shitposting and trolling here in /film/. They haven't improved since 2020 at all. They aren't trying to improve. They aren't advanced at all. For now, at least.

I'm sure. And I appreciate their film preservation work, but it's still very silly. They're talking about how they need to screen these films and teach younger people how to screen them, like proteges, so it can be continued on into the future. It's a nice sentiment but realistic. And even though I love and prefer the look of film I just can't help but find digital doomerism stupid. There are issues for sure and the past should be preserved but films and filmmaking need to embrace the present. So much is so antiquated.

Easily his best film simply because it almost completely eschews any attempt at making a coherent narrative and instead of that pushes further into the nightmarish/dream territory. It's like Suspria on steroids. It might also be due to Bava working on it and he's 10 times the director Argento is.

It's been pretty clear over the years that the only retards who think film > digital in 2024 are /tv/tards who watch 5 Marvel slops per year. Even if there're some issues with digital, the level of film stocks right now is simply not good enough. You can't tell me that some of the slop shot on film currently is better than the digital works. The issue with digital is that lot of people treat it like 35mm film. The best digital films are made by people who understand it better than that so people like Costa with his methods of working, Serra with his whole philosophy, Carax with how consciously artificial he tries to be etc. I can't really think of any great filmmaker working with film right now. Last one was maybe Grandrieux.

I can't see how one would really understand it without being Brazilian. It's not dense, on the contrary really, but it is very much inserted into Northeastern culture. It's quite the same thing with Rocha's Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol, but in this case it's indeed a somewhat dense film.

I feel there's a lot of morality in the media. Bias is inevitable, but the media, especially mainstream media, wants to teach us things. And I don't like it

All art is political. You just notice it more now because white liberal millennials are awful writers.

>>205928631
Yes, political. But morality is something more blurred in non-mainstream cinema. People can take a Godard movie and they can get
>Communist manifesto
>Godard Fetishes
>Classicism
>Facist tendencies
And in general personal expression. Mainstream cinema is audience tested and the creative vision can be squashed by third parties.

So Shiterion has The Mysterians and a bunch of other classic Toho movies on their channel, but they won't release them on Region 1 blu-rays. I wonder if it's a rights situation, but I can't imagine Toho would be against releasing these movies on physical media in North America when they've had Japanese blu-ray releases for years. I think it's just Criterion being lazy, even though they would have a built-in customer base of American Godzilla/Toho fans. The Mysterians is maybe not so popular, but physical releases of movies like Rodan and War of the Gargantuas would sell fairly well.

I had a dream that the newest Tsai feature film got released it was in the theater and I brought my mom to see it for some reason and he was also there to do a Q&A afterwards but what basically happened was that it was in English language and Taiwanese
The whole plot of the film was Lee trying to find out what exactly was going on with these UFO like bowling balls that were falling and killing everyone and there was also another like Anglo American actor who's really popular who is in the movie but I forgot who it was exactly it was either like Chris Pine or Chris Hemsworth or something like that but in any case the main focus of the film was sort of on the featuring to unravel the mystery of the deadly UFO bowling balls Lee was the only one there and he was running the whole thing and he was speaking and broken English and it was kind of crazy because he was playing scientist but he was also just like crazy like Jeff Goldblum in one of those movies where he plays a crazy science person
There was another famous actor that was like Chris Hemsworth or Chris Pine or one of those other in glue Chris actors who was in it he was like the co-lead but the main focus was on Lee who is trying to figure out the mystery of the UFO bowling balls I didn't get to finish the movie I woke up like somewhere in the middle of it but I really wanted to know what was what the Q&A was gonna be like that was really interesting because everyone in the theater was taking pictures of him
Anyone else have this dream? I want to know how the film ended.
