Molly should've moved to Paris in the early 90s after her big moment in Hollywood passed and just starred in euro kinos from then on, isn't she fluent in both french and italian?

Anyway, 80s Godard is best Godard.

I rewatched Woman is the Future of Man, and although i enjoy watching every Hong i've ever seen, i think i'm too much of a misogynist to really appreciate this, i was left with "i hate women so much it's unreal". But maybe it's Hong's fault, because when i watch Rohmer i'm left with love for his female characters, he challenges my misogyny always, and that didn't happen here. Also, korean is a real ugly sounding language. Got some more Hong lined up for rewatches this week.

In addition!: Richard Linklater's comedies and PTA's lighter fare capture that. Licorice Pizza and Phantom Thread exude a kind of wistful, almost tragic melancholy. i know they're "entry-level" or w/e but it's not like you're going to get what you're looking for captured by Brakhage

Anon that watched Phenomena last night reporting in. I fell asleep after Jennifer's roommate got killed, probably more because I had just worked 12 hours than that it was boring. Anyway, I woke up early and finished watching it before I went back to work (luckily it was still dark).

It was a fun movie. The monkey took me off guard. If Jennifer Connelly had not been so insanely good looking in this movie the monkey would have easily carried it. I laughed out loud almost every time the monkey was on screen (not sure if that was intended), especially at the end and when it meets Jennifer in the forest. The location shots were all amazing and definitely added to the movie. Makes me wonder why more aren't shot in cool locations.

The visuals in general were effective, especially the dream sequences and the whole end after Jennifer winds up at that house. The scenes in the water and the basement were great. Jennifer Connelly makes the movie worth watching for her camera time alone. The maggots and the kid and that fucking pool were pretty disgusting.

The sound was sort of meh imo. I know the voiceovers are par for the course for Italian movies of the period, but even still it was jarring at times. Not sure why Jennifer speaks in Italian sometimes, and the hard rock didn't really work for me at all in the context of the movie.

Not sure if there's any greater thematic stuff going on, but I don't understand why the whole insect angle was included at all. It doesn't really come up except in situations that could easily be dealt with in more conventional, grounded ways. I must be missing something.

Starting Suspiria now. Gonna try and stay awake this time, and I'll try and get back to you guys afterwards.

It just turns into generic actionslop when there's about 40 minutes left of the film.

It's the cinematography that is generic, which absolutely is a bad thing. I don't really care about the plot being nonsense, it's the fact that it looks dull that ruins it.
It's not impossible to enjoy the movie though, it has some good parts to it.
>>

KKurosawa has never been much of a stylist imo. His films all look like generic digital modern thrillers but at least he doesn't use the blue filter.
