Yeah, it's ass for what people make it to be. Easy 3/5, saved only by the scenery. Wayne couldn't act for shit and had no charisma. Industry plant status?

Yeah, I also forgot that they shot that and (very obvious) day for night scenes, but for me it's a 3/5. I think they should have focused on the cruel and vengeful Wayne angle instead of introducing that melodrama shit with the bitches that makes the film about 30% more boring and 70% less pimp coded.

Lil bro, it's not that big of a deal: I've watched way better westerns.
This idea of a "holy american canon" which must be revered and can't be changed is very Bloom coded, -and for all of the merits the man had-, he was very much a boomer. #burnthecanon

Eh, I disagree, and I even think in some aspects Leone's joint might be better than Kurosawa's; for example, the scene where Clint frees Marisol and her husband and son and tells them to gtfo is much more impactful and badass in Leone's film because Clint is a much more reserved and callous man than Jimbo, who's freeing of Hitomi, -or whatever the fuck she's called-, is only another showing of mercy for him. Clint's character is a true killer at heart, so him showing mercy for Marisol, and actually telling her "I freed you because there once was a man in need of help, and nobody came to help him" is much more emotional of a scene than Jimbo just saying "gtfo, or else I'll kill you!" to Alice Otsu and her husband.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2025/09/nashvilles-assassination-theory-revisited/

>Now’s the time to revisit Robert Altman’s 1975 masterpiece, Nashville. Not just because it is the great American film of the sound era, or the happenstance that its pre-Bicentennial setting is relevant to how the U.S. anticipates its 250th birthday, but because it spoke truth to American dread.

>Watching Altman’s 24 characters explain life to themselves is part of the movie’s multifaceted look at modern cogitation and self-delusion. It’s what came to mind when witnessing the many media responses to the assassination of Charlie Kirk — mostly shocked, angry, and bewildered — and outside what we get from Millennial movies that merely gaslight us or avoid the political inquiry that Altman’s genius presented as casual observation.

im being serious about the Kirk film, we can get in like a TG channel and write a movie and the ppl who are in Murica can film it, if we fund it together we could pull it off

biggest challenge would probably filming the shooting scene itself

I'm umming and erring on where to put the line breaks in my Mishima translation's subtitles, I've looked at some style guides but sometimes the results following them produces (e.g. "line breaks before, not after conjunctions" resulting in the top row much longer than the bottom row sometimes). I can read shit just as easily upside down/back to front etc. so judging by readability isn't much use in my case. Those of you who've watched the draft I posted last thread already, what are your thoughts on my subtitle formatting as it stands + does anyone here have subtitling experience or any resources they'd recommend following? Re: timings I'm erring on increasing the subtitle duration for scenes with faster-paced dialogue btw.
>>
>>214511715
Charlie Kirk will be a footnote within 50 years after a bunch of other wars and disasters have happened. Not every discrete event needs its own biopic, films about the real world work better when they're archetypal and stand in for all equivalent situations, like Amadeus, rather than doing hagiography on an individual case.

>>214513963
I'm not sure what you mean by the first part but yes, I'll adjust the timings a little.

The guides I've read suggest the line breaks be like the top 2 examples in pic related, which looks janky to me. My current draft looks like the bottom 2 examples. What do you guys think, and also should I change the font size/text position at all?

Copypasting captioning standards from KG forums for you in case it can be of use to you.

How to format a srt subtitle file properly:

1. Max 40 (37) characters per line, 80 (74) per subtitle.

2. Max two lines per subtitle. (only in real emergency use the third line)

3. Leave at least a 50ms gap between subtitles (dvdstudiopro for example skips an entry of a stl file, if the tc overlaps or end/start tc of two subsequent titles are equal)

4. 900 ms minimum for a subtitle. If possible, repair time after finishing subtitles by setting minimal length to 70-80ms per character.

5. Make visible, if two or more people are talking in one title: You can use short hyphens (- blabla) for that. Either one hyphen for each line, or just one for every second. (Really? -Yes, really!)

5.a) When there's a dialog in a subtitle and the first person's speech contains over 40 chars and the second person's only contains a few (or vice versa), we move the dialog hyphen:

Wrong:
- If I Knew You Were Coming I'd Have Baked A Cake, Baked A Cake.
- What?

Right:
- If I Knew You Were Coming I'd Have
Baked A Cake, Baked A Cake. - What?
>>
>>214514352
>The guides I've read suggest the line breaks be like the top 2 examples in pic related, which looks janky to me.

top has much more natural line breaks
>>

>and also should I change the font size/text position at all?
It's fine, but I'd prefer basic arial. It's what I always use.
Make the color a very, very light gray, instead of a shining pure white.
>>
>>214514352
Having "the" and "little boy" separated to different lines reads awkwardly. Agree with other anons that top's superior. Also makes much more sense to have the two sentences on their own lines like on top right.

Cinema is in stagnation. Everyone tells stories the same way. Arthouse or mainstream, doesn't matter. Nowadays they all follow the same formal ideas. Your average arthouse festival films uses the same formal conventions as the latest blockbusters. No one dreams with the camera or with the cut. Where are the ideas?

Threadly effortpost (Limited edition)

Cringekino. The direction photography is immaculate. Some of the dialogues are too corny, but one of its strengths was the protagonist's voice overs where he speaks in his own words about his inner and outer world with a mix of melancholy and acrid humor, like in the noir genre. The actors made an explendid deadpan performance, except for some moments when there are fits of over-theatricality. Some touches of surrealism, which apparently are the norm in Subiela's filmography. There is a lot of miserabilism, melancholy and frustration but it teeters to hope for a better future... The ending scene will likely gladen the appreciators of Tarkovsky's work, since it is an unequivocal tribute to it. A very recommendable film.

P.S. In the theatre scene, the film being screened is Tiempo de revancha (staged by Aristarain), I think the pwned box office clerk was literally played by Adolfo Aristarain himself kek, very meta.

Hey /film/ I’m taking a poll so please let me know your opinion:

Based off concept alone which type of film appeals to you more? Which are you more drawn to and would give a watch?

1. Chaotic filmmaking - like Eisenstein, Rocha, Oshima, Wakamatsu, Fukusaku

2. Virtuoso filmmaking - like Ozu, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Antonioni, Mizoguchi
>>

Old Hollywood collides with New Hollywood, and screen horror with real-life horror, in the startling debut feature from Peter Bogdanovich. Produced by Roger Corman, this chillingly prescient vision of American-made carnage casts Boris Karloff as a version of himself: an aging horror-movie icon whose fate intersects with that of a seemingly ordinary young man (Tim O’Kelly) on a psychotic shooting spree around Los Angeles. Charged with provocative ideas about the relationship between mass media and mass violence, Targets is a model of maximally effective filmmaking on a minimal budget and a potent first statement from one of the defining voices of the American New Wave.

~Criterion

SOURCE: Targets 1968 REPACK 1080p BluRay REMUX AVC FLAC 1.0-CiNEPHiLES

Used superior video source, unfiltered audio, extra commentary and subtitles.

There are three imperfect audio options available for this title. They all seem to originate from the same underlying transfer with very little detail above 8 kHz and audible distortion in louder parts.

1) The first mastering (PAL DVD, AMZN) seems to be near-unfiltered, suffers from distortion and a loud 60 Hz hum throughout.
2) The later mastering (same on all Blu-rays) tries to clean up the track, mostly succeeding in removing the distortion, but inexplicably it also cuts out nearly all the bass and ends up sounding incredibly tinny.
3) The only outlier is the Paramount NTSC DVD, which has more noise reduction than other tracks and loses detail.

Both tracks are included, with the hum on the AMZN track attenuated.
