That's what's great about it, no jump scares except that one scene. That long hallway shot at the hospital where the nurse keeps going into the room and the cop keeps leaving and coming back, the whole time making you think something is going to happen any second but it's such a long drawn out scene and just a long static shot. Exorcist III is a horror masterpiece and you got filtered because you're used to slop.

>That's what's great about it
It's great because it's an underwhelming movie? Hipsters gonna hipster.
>no jump scares except that one scene.
So what? I don't get the fixation some have with jump scares, their inclusion or lack thereof. I've seen great horror films that have either.
>That long hallway shot at the hospital where the nurse keeps going into the room and the cop keeps leaving and coming back, the whole time making you think something is going to happen any second but it's such a long drawn out scene and just a long static shot.
It was one of the few entertaining scenes in a turgidly dull film, but I don't think it's too much to write home about. It's all a bit obvious too.
>Exorcist III is a horror masterpiece and you got filtered because you're used to slop.
It's like a lesser episode of the X-Files. I can see liking it, but thinking it's a masterpiece? I don't think you know much about films.

Cinematography wise, Exorcist III in my top for horror. That scene in the church is beyond kino. The movie is very understated. The cop keeps looking at the victim's hands and we don't really think much about it and then about halfway he reveals the killer actually carves the insignia on their hands, such a great build up to that. And how he talks about the Jesus statue that got vandalized with blackface and the defaced cross. We sort of imagine it but assume they aren't going to show that. Then at then end when all the shit is going down, it fucking pops out of the ground. The movie is like progressive horror. It's a long slow build towards some great payoffs.

I don't believe in gooning, I'm an efficient fapper, 10 minutes or less is my motto.

>>214959196
NTA, I'm not a big fan but there are a couple shining lights. The random Joker statue in the church spooked me, mainly because it was so bizarre and out of place. Chad Dourif is awesome and so are Scott and Miller.
(it's cool that George C. Scott plays Lee J. Cobb's character in both the 12 Angry Men remake and this Exorcist sequel.)
The Ninth Configuration is definitely the true Blattykino though.

>>214959280
My problem is that I used to have a lot more free time so I could watch like 3 a day in previous years, I guess I'm struggling to accept I'm out of my prime now...
>>

>>
>>214959341
I'm not sure what public perception on this one was but in my view it is probably in the top 5 of all found footage movies for me. Not that I actually have a concrete list.
>>
>>214959488
>Demons
Fun movie, pretty much every single performance and line delivery feels amateurish and exaggerated in precisely the kind of way that I love.
>>

>Cinematography wise, Exorcist III in my top for horror.
The cinematography is quite poor. Blatty clearly didn't know what he was doing. He did an okay job aping Freidkin's aesthetic, but didn't have a clue how to use the camera. Much of what you write about the film isn't all that convincing, as it's just redundant praise for things you thought were great.

Greg Nicotero confirms they had him redesign the new Jason mask purely for copyright reasons

>They made changes on the mask so that they could copyright it, so that they could own it, because it’s not just a typical hockey mask.

I'm not even convinced Blatty knew he was making a horror movie. If someone said he'd been doing drugs or drinking or something and the crew had to keep reminding him that he was making an exorcist sequel and needed to get back on track I'd believe that.

Demons is one of the best 80s horror action movies. It's like Gremlins for adult gore fans. It even has a Gremlin sprout out of woman's back in spectacular Italian gore fashion. The end with the motorbike and katana and crashing helicopter is incredible. If you haven't seen Demons, see it ASAP if you like fun gory 80s movies with great heavy metal soundtracks, punks, cocaine, and wildy inventive gory set pieces.

I guess the Disney one. Both are good though.
>>
>>214962619
My bad, I skipped over that one >>214962091.

2 or the first one? The first one seems more essential culturally. I'm thinking of that scene in Donnie Darko where it's playing in the theater during Halloween. In the film, it's 1988, so even though the second one had been out already a year prior, the Donnie Darko director chose that one.

Not a definitive reason or anything, just throwing that out there.

2 is superior

Agreed. They had some model of the horseman in a nearby hardware store, and as a kid, it always spooked me. Right around when the film came out, too, and I was too young to watch.
