This never made sense to me. Your goal is to scare the player. Why does the character in game needs to be a whimpering bitch? Scare comes from atmosphere, sound design, clever jump scares, the feel of survival, resource management, scary creature designs. Look at Dead Space, for example. It's scarier than any Resident Evil game. Or even RE2 Remake or the hospital section of RE3 Remake. RE9 wasn't scary at all, and playing as Grace was just annoying.
