The issue there is that various different versions of that phrase sometimes get funnelled into the same old cliche. Forget stylistic liberties that could be taken with lazy schoolboy / stern father / dejected soldier all saying it differently. The stupidly complex Japanese context can convey anything from "that's just how it is on this bitch of an earth" to "time to do some dirty work".

The problem is that almost all kanji have two phonetic readings, one that's based on the original Chinese (adapted for Japanese pronunciation) and then one that's based on the native Japanese word that the character represents. E.g. 水 (water) is Sui (Chinese) and Mizu (Japanese). Depending on context Japs will use either of these readings, meaning even if you know the Chinese for a character you still don't know the Japanese word for it (or the way Japanese people pronounce the Chinese word, and of course a lot of characters have morphed to have totally different meanings as well).

Obviously knowing what most of the characters mean semantically is still a major advantage but that's still only like, a quarter of the way to understanding kanji. And you could make the argument that needing to rewire your brain to associate different sounds with the characters is in some ways more difficult than learning them for the first time, like imagine if you had to learn a language that used the Latin alphabet but all the sounds were totally different. Cyrillic is already quite the mindfuck and it only shares a couple of letters.

Well, a lot of people like the yuri found in the sequel, I have some experience with yuri content and I can say for sure that it's better (written) than in other games. I'm not saying that Megadimension Neptunia VII and Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online (which explitly uses the word yuri in that context) aren't enjoyable in that aspect or that they are bad games but the yuri of Blue Reflection: Second Light really is even better than the yuri of other games, some of them.

MGSV was already touching on the topic of language and national borders being used to hide secrets, and Death Stranding is kind of about how "Now everyone's connected through a weave of information online."

I feel like the "Should we have connected" premise of DS2 could be about how it's too late to stop the Old Order from spinning out of control now that things have gone south, since the Russia war started or something. I'd like to play the game and see what it's about.
