I'll bring up a theory I have I mentioned last thread, ingame godwyn is called a martyr, in kanji its used for "willing sacrifice" as in he was at least partly in on it. I don't think ranni specifically set out to kill godwyn but instead needed any demigod dead, and godwyn catching on to what was going on offered himself to save his relatives. We know he was a genuinely good person from what's said of him, it's entirely possible he was willing to die to save his loved ones.

The DLC lore has left a weird taste in my mouth.I don't dislike it by any means but something feels slightly off kilter about it.Previous souls DLC has always added stuff which makes revelations about and recontextualizes base game content but something about SotET lore feels especially odd in that regard. It's not completely disconnected but it's not exactly weaved in either? There's a weirdly dream-like quality to it, especially the hornsent stuff and the Ymir/Metyr revelations. Maybe its because of the sheer size of the DLC meaning extra large additions whereas previous souls DLC were naturally a lot more focused. Maybe it's because it's been over 2 fucking years and I haven't given it much thought and a lot of what I thought previously had just kind of settled into my mind as known facts or I outright forgot a lot of it, whereas previous DLCs coming in closer to release meant I was still in full lorefag brain and ready to accept anything and expect the lore to get flipped.I had a similar feeling from the second half of the base game, too. Instead of Miquella's plan failing because mind control is not a good foundation for a functioning society, it fails because he can't "erase the original sin" that caused the conflict between the numen and hornsent, as much as he might want to. I feel like this would have done a better job tying together the disconnected events of the DLC around the unifying theme of sin, resentment, and revenge - which is also present in Messmer's story.But the monumentals are back, so it's okay.
