Blobber progress post:The base functionality of my interaction system is now working; the player can open doors and hit switches. However, to have it completely functional, I need to have an inventory system working, so I started working on the UI. The leveling/stat system is fully functional and I can generate an inventory based upon the size I give the player actor. Next I will be adding some test items and the ability to pick them up from the environment and use them such as keys for locked doors. Items will be derived from a parent item class with its data based on an enumerator that tells it what data to pull item data from in a data table. This will allow me to create many items very quickly.

What went wrong?seems nobody played the game for longer than 12 hours, even the people giving it positive reviews. Apparently it's ported from 3DS and it looks like it is too, so giving the sales figures of a ported game is disingenuous when it was designed for a different console.

>>484294983Fascism is a political expression of cruelty and antithetical to personal freedoms. In D&D it would be lawful evil. In a familial context it would be a strict and overbearing father who would force you to give up on gamedev and become a coal miner. The only people who like it are naturally submissive.
>>48429569792 reviews in 7 years. I mean if that's the bar for success, then it's pretty low if it doesn't even let you keep developing instead of having to find a job.>>484296045GTAV is a ported game too, as is literally every Japanese game. What's your point?
I corrupted a huge amount of network backups on accident last night, but I started over. I'm making a more powerful network to perform the same diffusion task. Right now, every three hours the network backs up. I set up a script to read them in sequence and put out images like the frames of this animation, which shows the last ~15 hours of progress, including the starting condition. According to my ballpark, it will take 180 hours to reach the level of the previous one that got corrupted, at which point any additional training would be 'gravy'.
>>484296196Looks pretty cool but performance is abysmal
>>484296524how many images are you training it on? and what is this going to be used for, randomly generated fruits?
>>484295697Not just /agdg/ but 92 reviews also puts your game in the upper echelon on games on Steam. I don't know a lot of people truly realize how many games on Steam don't even crack a singular review, let alone 10 or even 92.
>have two fangirls in my discord that gush over my game>one is a qt>voice chat with her>she has a cute giggle too>keeps saying how excited she is for my game>says i could be like the "stardew guy" and a millionairethis shit goes straight to my ego
>>484293613The best place for that is a rich, conservative neighbourhood. Right-wing rural areas may be kinder to them as well.If your kid came out in an unfortunate manner, save up money and move to a more right-leaning area. I can't promise they won't be bullied but they should be mostly fine. The more successful you have and the more money you have, the better a future you can buy for your children.
>>484296734It's 91 images, the 13x7 grid of that animation is how it is doing on each of the fruits in sequence. I can't justify building it except out of curiosity. I don't have a plan for it.

what happened to recap.agdg.io?
I tidies up the Alien ladies sprite on the main menu as it was upscaled.I've also added some extra details to the main menu, I think it looks smarter, but my colour palette looks so garish at times. The right hand side will contain some help on the menu or contain some information on the characters you will face.
>>484301515The same risk exists for prototypes so it's not different in that sense.
>>484301223Nah, the ports are fine, you just have an irrational dislike of mobile games as a concept. The only difference is that you use your fingers instead of the mouse and keyboard. If you can't make your game work on mobile, it's a skill issue on your end.

everything in life is just a constantly DAILY battle to not get depressed and to not quit. a missed day is a lost battle.and everything is depressing before you land your first hit. so it's a hard battle to fight.that's probably why we are so obsessed with successful people, because we admire their mental strength to keep going.we just know they are special and we aren't.i don't even think they try that hard and aren't even educated better or so.they are just one thing: consistent. they don't let depression take over their life. they don't quit.

>>484322694I don't think so. I'm trying to be vague with a lot of the descriptions as it is. Not really for the dark souls style of storytelling but rather a trial and error system.I'm basing a lot of the encounters off static enemies and stuff that require planning to deal with but your toolset is different each run with some thing staying the same. Basically imagine a nuzlocke ruleset in pokemon and you have that.I'm going as far as to even use Emerald Kaizo's first gym design as a planning point for a vertical slice concept. I'm not sure if anyone here has played it but its a gym that is quite difficult but you have certain guaranteed encounters that make it easier but not trivial. The rest of the design is based around trying to exhaust you of your early game tools in order to handicap the rest of your run.Obviously it won't be as stupid as EK is because that just wouldn't be fun for 99% of people.

And a well made and well advertised game should instantly sell very well if the audience is captured by it.If you inverted the quality and advertising of the two titles, we'd be talking about King's Field and not Elden Ring. It's really that simple.

>>484322832Damn. He mirrors my thoughts exactly.Pirates are scum, but the ones who stay quiet are acceptable. The problem is the pirates who distribute, the pirates who act proud or like they're doing a good deed, the pirates who feel people are "entitled" to play a game or that they're making developers better because piracy supposedly makes developers make better games. They'll come up with infinite levels of cope and the sad fact is, they are the majority and so they hold the majority opinion.Go anywhere else on 4chan and say you hate pirates and you'll be swarmed by people who ask "I've already spent 5 hours trying to get multiplayer to work but because it's a pirated copy it doesn't work, I reported it as a bug but wtf do I do I love this game but I can't play it" unironically bashing you for daring to say they should buy the game. The sad reality is you have to not engage with these people, because the more you engage with them the more it hurts you.The sadder reality is these same pirates are spending the money they didn't spend on better games, on gacha games asking them $20 a pull. They're not money savvy, they're not poor, they're just retarded or underaged. If you pirate a game and stay quiet, you cause virtually no damage. If you pirate a game and distribute it, you actively harm the developer for no reason other than to earn anonymous street cred from faggots.

>>484326854This is conjecture spoken by those pirates that try to say they're doing something good.Yes, that effort would be better spent on making games better. However, because pirates will always pirate regardless of how good a game is, and purchasers will always purchase a game regardless of how bad a game is, with little leeway between it (I don't know how big or small that leeway is, again we're all talking conjecture here) it doesn't make piracy more morally acceptable in any way.You know what people did instead of using DRM? They started making always online games. They started making games with microtransactions that you need to connect to a server for. They started making mobile games that run ads. Everyone complains about games becoming shittier like this but face reality and realize that the reason games are becoming shittier is so that people can't pirate it. Sure, you can run a private server, but good job convincing all your friends to go there or convincing the average joe to run a private server.
It's over.
>>484327238If pirates always pirate then why fight against piracy? Isn't it a pointless battle? Your efforts would be better spent trying to get people who didn't buy or pirate your game to buy it and you achieve that by making it a better game.
>>484326932True
>>484326308R*ddit-fags seem to have that mindset. One second they screech how pirating is bad and illegal, but the moment you say something that they hate they flip and screech that they will pirate your game and you deserve it like it's no crime, fair is fair because you annoyed them. Kek.

>>484327238Perfect, a few of my game ideas are basically unpirateable because the vast majority aren't going to join some literal who pirates server due to the potential risks and not even having your character there to transfer to the true servers. Pirated is like buying its both good and bad depending on the game. Both the system and the consumer are fucked. The system exploits and the consumer feeds cancerous garbage.

>>484327861>Because I just said that people are fighting piracy.Yeah but why if like you say pirates pirate no matter what. Why do you assume that people go on to play gacha slop because they can't pirate it? That's not how it works. They're targeting someone who can be exploited with gacha. I don't think someone who isn't willing to buy games would spend money on gacha.Big publishers pivoted towards GAAS and MTX because they can extract more money from a single game with little extra work. They're doing it to raise the price tag of a game, not to fight pirates.

>>484328664>I don't think someone who isn't willing to buy games would spend money on gacha.Okay, offer someone an apple. They can buy it for $1 or $0. What do you think they'll choose? Usually they'll go for the $0.Now offer someone an orange. They can buy it for $1. Are they going to say "but I can get an apple for $0 why would I ever buy an orange?" no, that's not how this works. There are many different reasons for pirating and I can guarantee you that some percentage of those pirates can and will pay for things if you force them to. Just because a pirate is pirating games it doesn't mean that they never buy luxury items, in fact, it suggests they have a weak will and can't simply choose to "not" play a game, they'd rather pirate a game than not play it.Now apply that to gacha. They can simply "not" buy the microtransaction but their weak will means they'll probably do it anyway. Other reasons for pirating such as being too young to have a card or being genuinely poor don't apply but there are people out there who are just faggots who will pirate no matter how good the game is.

Dome Romantik (now Dome Defender) is a good example, I did all of the above and then finally bought the game when it released. Balatro too. Those sorts of games benefit greatly from demos.

Pirating is not a real problem. There's no scarcity for digital goods, so in reality digital sales are more similar to donations than sales of real world goods
>>484331062Buying a game on steam is way easier than pirating it.
>>484331342Steam is in a better position because it has existing reputation and people have their bank info already docked, but if someone didn't already own steam then it would be harder to buy the game off of steam. To buy a game off DLsite, you first need to navigate the site until you find a link to an external site that sells point cards for DLsite.>Then, you need to purchase points, which means putting your bank info into some dubious website.>Then, you need to go back to DLsite and find the page to redeem it.This is partially because of legal reasons, they can't allow you to use your card directly on the site if you aren't in Japan. To get the game off of a pirate site, you search [Game Name] [Pirate Site].>Click the first link.>Click one of the download links on the first post on that page. >>484348292Anything that's just a flat color or that you just want to use a shader for, should be a ColorRect.Any complex geometry (like the "tear" behind the Settings header in my previous screenshot) should be a TextureRect or a TextureButton, depending on whether it should be clickable/hoverable or not.Anything that's just a box which might need an outline, should be a themed panel; unless it needs to be clickable in which case you use a themed Button. You can also get away with using a themed panel for most things. Panels in general are very flexible.

The main and frankly only reason why the majority of the companies that made the best PC games of 1998-2003 went out of business isn't because the games were unpopular - it's because piracy is almost exclusively a PC issue. We lost some of the best companies on God's green earth while consoleshit studios remained stable for decades. PC really is the best gaming system in existence, it's just that it suffered a series of pretty heavy blows because of that and it couldn't keep recovering

How did you anons handle going up and down stairs in Godot? My brain is gonna break. I tried an implementation and it looked like it worked nicely but then there was an issue of my character snapping if I decided to turn left or right while going up stairs. Also the code considered slopes as stairs and I could not figure out how to fix that. This prevented me from being able to travel up slopes slowly and travel down slopes at an elevated speed.
