The base functionality of my interaction system is now working; the player can open doors and hit switches. However, to have it completely functional, I need to have an inventory system working, so I started working on the UI. The leveling/stat system is fully functional and I can generate an inventory based upon the size I give the player actor.

Next I will be adding some test items and the ability to pick them up from the environment and use them such as keys for locked doors. Items will be derived from a parent item class with its data based on an enumerator that tells it what data to pull item data from in a data table. This will allow me to create many items very quickly.

seems nobody played the game for longer than 12 hours, even the people giving it positive reviews. Apparently it's ported from 3DS and it looks like it is too, so giving the sales figures of a ported game is disingenuous when it was designed for a different console.

I corrupted a huge amount of network backups on accident last night, but I started over. I'm making a more powerful network to perform the same diffusion task. Right now, every three hours the network backs up. I set up a script to read them in sequence and put out images like the frames of this animation, which shows the last ~15 hours of progress, including the starting condition. According to my ballpark, it will take 180 hours to reach the level of the previous one that got corrupted, at which point any additional training would be 'gravy'.

I've also added some extra details to the main menu, I think it looks smarter, but my colour palette looks so garish at times.

Learning blender. Half way through learning modeling pretty well. Ignore the dumb anime girl placeholder. Gonna show this despite how rough it is. The tough part about the overworld maps is the lighting being multiply layers

It effectively reduces my color variation due to the way multiply works. The good thing about it is that I can completely bullshit any sort of pixel gradients by using an airbrushed png for gradual shadows.

Speaking of programming the problem I'm running into is trying to have multiple classes run through event trees. The idea being that theres this beheaded warrior who evolves into one of two depending on which stat is higher (Sorta like hitmonchan and hitmonlee from pokemon)

I think I got the symbolism down by ripping off some of Gustave Moreau's old sybomlism art but the actual functionality of it is rough.

Yeah it is and the y sorting is easier than you would think. Because its all RPG maker tiles I actually just export 48 x 48 grids throw down an isometric grid to draw over and the collisions are pretty easy to draw out using restriction tiles.

Then using some layer plugins its actually quite easy to parallax what the player can move under.

I used some 3d models of varying shapes and complexity to try as a base for a test run before committing to the isometric perspective.

I don't think so. I'm trying to be vague with a lot of the descriptions as it is. Not really for the dark souls style of storytelling but rather a trial and error system.

I'm basing a lot of the encounters off static enemies and stuff that require planning to deal with but your toolset is different each run with some thing staying the same. Basically imagine a nuzlocke ruleset in pokemon and you have that.

I'm going as far as to even use Emerald Kaizo's first gym design as a planning point for a vertical slice concept. I'm not sure if anyone here has played it but its a gym that is quite difficult but you have certain guaranteed encounters that make it easier but not trivial. The rest of the design is based around trying to exhaust you of your early game tools in order to handicap the rest of your run.

Obviously it won't be as stupid as EK is because that just wouldn't be fun for 99% of people.

Yes, that effort would be better spent on making games better. That's what demos are for. Demos are making a resurgence and are honestly great, I've started playing a lot of indie demos and I've been wishlisting many of them too.
It doesn't solve the whole problem but I would encourage devs to provide a demo if they can. I noticed Little Locked Rooms dev only provided a demo on itch.io and not on steam, unless that changed.

There will be 17 floors in total.
My options after the list reaches more than 10 floors:
a) shrink the size of the text of the floors in two times (to the size of the names of difficulties and game modes)
pros - everything fits at once
cons - floors will not stand out so much against the other stuff, will have to squeeze faction banners as well
b) make two "pages", the list 1-10, at the top an arrow to flip to 11-17 and back again on the same principle
pros - floors stand out, no need to squeeze banners
cons - for some reason I find the idea of scrolling through the floors shitty
c) make a scrolling and scroll through floors with the wheel/buttons
pros - not as shitty as "b" option
cons - I'm too lazy to do it that way, it is still scrolling

I'm aware of it and sent it to the imsim devs I know that use godot. Peri's stuck in unitinu and most of the systems are made by us, with few exceptions, like the conversation/dialog database.

I mainly let the unitinu character controller handle that. When stairs are to steep for it to handle, we just add an invisible collider or make the stairs parallax-based.. That's less fun tho, because it screws with the leg IK. Walking down slopes is just falling down
