I blew all ~240 of my hourglasses on this set, got most of the cards, and I'm already back to like ~180 hourglasses and I still have 1.5 months of saving until the new set, plus whatever missions the new set brings. I think f2p bros are going to make it. I will say though that maybe f2p should wait 1-2 days when the new set drops before rolling on it. This was easy, because it's just 1 pack, but the new expansion might have 3 packs like GA does, and in that case you're gonna want to wait until either you personally read through every card in each pack, or until the jewtuber whales discern what the best deck is, and thus what the best pack to pull from is.

They take greedier steps every year because they know the playerbase remaining feels more sunk cost to stick around. They literally just had a very contentious 5th anniversary that many were not expecting and caused some outrage because anniversaries are usually generous celebrations but for their 5th Anni, they debuted literal rehashes as featured units with a greater scarcity level than anything prior in the game. The year prior, they introduced new classes of units without providing any kind of free resources to power them up, so that mainly paying customers could even have a chance to make use of what the units were designed to do (paying customers could get more of an unlock resource that could apply to any class without discrimination). And on top of all that, they cut corners as time passes by recycling old animations and outfits. With TCGP I'm expecting the same downhill approach given how little they've actually delivered on launch and how the 45 wins and 5 in a row are already cyclic.

MI Eggy is pretty legit in Celebi builds, especially for the mirror. With Serp up it costs 2 energy and as soon as the opposing Celebi attaches 3+ energy (enough to OHKO your own) then it enters Eggy ko range. Currently running one MI Egg and one Egg EX, it’s a bit jank but the deck is so busted that several things have to go wrong before you even need a failsafe, so you can just stall if you need a specific exeggutor

All sort of casuals, former players, current fans etc all together around the simpler format. Eventually, sooner than later the meta strats start to spread, more and more grindy or cheesy decks come out. Player base starts to drop, more complex skills are added, stronger cards start to come and more players drop slowly but surely as powercreep increases simply because not everyone can actually stand the game post their initial awe. Pocket will suffer a similar fate, just with bigger numbers on its back. The one advantage that it has is that it sold itself as a comfy, casual experience to collect cards and put them on displays and shit, while Duel Links was more of an anime experience to perform the cool combos your character did in the show.
