This could have been such a great game but there is so many annoying things, so much forced damage, the bot fights, or the defend the core missions which are basically timed. That's without even mentionning the lives/save system, as you're supposed to do the entire Hard missions path with a maxium of 5 lives (assuming you even managed to unlock the path without losing a single life because it keeps track), no saving, and of course the final boss consists in plunging yourself in acid to pull switches, acid which drains your entire HP in mere seconds, so if you don't have extra lives there you're basically fucked. The entire idea that you must fight bosses until they only have 10% HP left and then they magically stop taking any damage and you're supposed to flee the levels, only because you have to "refight them but for real" at the end, is also retarded. There is nothing wrong with having a boss ruh of previous bosses even if they were already defeated, but no I guess my game about space bikes and killer robots must have a "realistic" story (except that bosses magically not taking any damage anymore isn't so "realistic").Also yes I know you can farm lives but only on the first Hard mission and even then it's an exploit so you might as well use a cheat code too. You can also switch which character you're playing as mid campaign as you unlock better ones but that's also an exploit.
>>12253475Neither Quake II nor Forsaken have autoaiming on N64. Meanwhile Doom and Duke Nukem 3D have on PC. You don't know what you're talking because you're a young idiot who use 6th-7th gen logic and apply that to the 90's.
So I've beaten the PSX version now. Turns out it's missing one level from the PC version, oh well. I only found half the crystals so I used a password to access the final bonus level and thank god I did because I'd have been disappointed to replay the entire game only to find out the reward is an absolutely atrocious level.Other than that it was pretty great and I gotta say the PSX version looks amazing. For one thing there is no basically no polygon clipping, no texture jitter, no pop in, and the framerate is high and consistent. Absolutely amazing feat for the platform. That and the coloured lights look amazing, better than in the N64 version even though I found that coloured dynamic lights were the N64's strength. The other nice thing about the PSX version is that only a single level is timed, they got rid of the timer in the other levels that had it on PC. Good riddance.
Forsaken girl was hot, i'd post the complete set of pictures but they're NSFW
>>12256369I'm almost sad there was no PS2 Forsaken sequel by Acclaim that was rushed and sucked but had good ideas, similar to Turok Evolution and Shadow 2nd coming
>>12250859>the corner peeking simulator descentI know what you mean. Jesus christ. I think it has to do with how computers of the time couldn't handle big rooms with this kind of technology so the whole game is cramped

How many of you guys have actually beaten him legitimately?
>>12255168I've done it. The fight sucks both cheating and legit, but for different reasons.
>>12256064I'm not sure if you know, but in the original NES game the Start button brought up the item menu and Select was a simple Pause. Certain weapons like the Cut blade and Elec beam (which can hurt the Yellow Devil) can be paused and unpaused quickly and each frame movement will register as a new hit. It's similar to the cheat in Blaster Master where you could pause a grenade hitting a boss and the boss would still take explosion damage while paused.
The only tricky part of its pattern is when it does a floor shot followed by a one-tile-up shot, and that's easily solved by just doing one big jump over both instead of trying to slip between them.
>>12256739Huh, that'll make repeat playthroughs a bit easier, I hate this boss.
i'm probably the only zoomer that has done it legitimately
Just beat the first game on the Sega Master System . Great RPG that still holds up well and is easily as good as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest on the NES. I've already played through the 2nd game should I just skip 3 and go straight to playing the 4th though? I've heard 3 was made by a different team and isn't a good as the others It was
Phantasy Star 3 is a good game. I'll defend it. Yes it's dull ugly and sparse looking BUT- it's well paced, no grinding needed to progress but not too easy either - mythical tier OST - ahead of its time features like branching paths, multiple endings, dynamic music, configurable psi powers, okay that's all the ahead of its time features - very cool story with multiple twists and turns, incredibly satisfying revelations- very imaginative enemies- I'm going to say it again, the soundtrack is mythic tier, 15/10 "I am on a fucking fantastic adventure" music
>>12251784I don't remember which Phantasy Star game it was, but my first and only experience with the series was on some Dreamcast Jampack compilation thing.(It was actually the first time I played Shining Force too. It really made me wish that I didn't miss out on all those games back when they were new. I really need to just sit and play through entire series for both of those)
>>12253821>it's well paced, no grinding needed to progress but not too easy eitherI remember having gane over in the very first fight
You guys original save batteries still holding out? Surreal to think there could be an SMS PS with a save from the 80s still on it.

do you do shadow temple last as the circle demands or the factual superior choice where you finally travel to ganon's own turf which is richer in lore, characters, and has multi facet temple?
>>12256728I did a 3ds oot master quest race with a friend using all the same techniques used by the glitchless speedrun record. It was really fun; just stuff like skipping the bottom of the deku tree and hoverboot crossing at the spirit temple colossus for mirror shield from the kid's side silver gauntlet chest, or quick kills on bosses, was pretty dang cool.
>>12255418Shadow then Spirit is the correct order because both Navi's hints and the Map indicator point to that order.
>>12256745there is no "correct" order, and if anything the way the medallions are laid out hints that shadow is canonically meant to be done last (which circles back to light medaillion) if the game had been made linear.
>>12255491The Forest Temple, Shadow Temple, and ESPECIALLY the Spirit Temple are all kino as fuck, what the hell are you talking about?
>>12256487>>12255954The game references them in the desert IIRC and you can tell you were intended to have them for the silver rupee room in the Spirit Temple. You. An get that rupee with a roll-jump + jumping sword attack, but that's obviously not how it was intended to be gotten. Spirit Temple is the true final temple, and thematically, stylistically, hell, even musically, fits better as a finale compared to the Shadow Temple

The first 1st-party NES game not released under the black box line. They were clearly proud of it.
>>12249226>>12249234Black box - no save featureSilver box - password saveGold box - battery backed SRAMIt's too bad they didn't keep that box design scheme for the entire NES line. I also liked how Capcom and Konami had their own box design template in the early days.

>>12256453>lack of a map is a part of le experienceIf a map is detrimental to the experience, why is Super Metroid considered the best in the series when it was the first to include one? Metroid (NES) and Metroid II (GB) didn’t have a map and le experience in both is far worse than in Super, Fusion, and Zero Mission without a doubt, unless you’re a contrarian farming (you)s, of course.
>>12256475>It should be legal to kill every broccoli-haired retard on sight.Imagine being 40 years old (having been around during Metroid) and insulting younger people just because you’re upset. Resident Evil 1 remake and The Twin Snakes really shouldn't be called "remakes". All of the negative ideas associated with that term (that are actually bad) are not present in them. They are alternate artistic treatments of the same premises and technical showcases. Not attempts to pave over history with something more accessible to retarded cretins. The Twin Snakes has cutscenes directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, with input from Hideo Kojima (who told him to make them more his own rather than try to recreate the original game).Technology was not frozen at this time. You could do radically different things after a few years passed. There was great novel value in making the same scene with new tech. They were not breaking existing works into the monogame frame. Anybody who hates these particular remakes I have to take for a hysteric who can't appraise the issue clearly.
>>12253379Yes.
>>12255397B-but the gaymecube discs are smaller...
>>12253149kojambo outsourced a remake of mgs to some canucks, they basically shoved mgs1 levels into mgs2, downgraded the graphics and controls because cube couldn't run it, cutscenes were directed by some watchowski wannabe jap and it only has a shitty english redub even in japan. all of this to put snake in fucking smash bros.
I don't think enough gets said about Twin Snakes being the product of Kojima having lunch with Miyamoto and discussing the prospect of making a game together, only for Miyamoto to pawn him off on the dudes he tard-wrangled into putting serviceable controls and combat in their survival horror game.
>>12252983>first three posts are all "tendie" posting>the amount and seethe and cope in the threadKek, good job OP. Can't believe the GameCube makes these losers so mad.I think the MGS2 controls of Twin Snakes really is the only thing holding it back. Not to say the original played great, the controls are kinda clunky and weird to learn, but I think it was so drastic from what most people know of MGS1.Also, ReMake is the definitive version of RE1, idk what these nerds are talking about
mario, zelda, metroid, kirby, punch out, contra, castlevania, mega man, dragon quest were all more fun on NES than SNES. not to mention ninja gaiden which didnt even get anything besides a shitty demake. was there anything that actually got better with 16 bit besides FF and mother?
>>12256231It's not as crunched as a handheld but it's still worse than the NES Mega Mans and Mega Man X. Mega Man is a game about shooting and platforming. When the sprite is huge it means there's less room to shoot at stuff from range. You'll note that a lot of the games where it actually works to have a larger sprite are melee-oriented games where the protagonist uses a sword or their fists by default. And they're usually more focused on killing lots of enemies and the platforming is just there to keep it interesting.
>>12256251I was wondering about that, and thought to try putting Mega Man 7 and Mega Man V side by side. The scale is actually very similar, though MM7 is slightly larger.I recall something about MM7 being developed by the handheld team, but don't know if that's true.
