Been having a lot of fun with this game
>>12256423I never played it growing up, tried it with the switch 2 release as I assume a lot of people have been doing. Dreadful, absolutely awful, just a mindless slog, one of the worst treasure games and probably the worst game nintendo published on the gamecube. The only saving grace is that it is visually quite nice.

Why didn't we ever get a sequel?
>>12256161It was marketed as a "[game] killer" so it was doomed to fail
>>12256161SEQUEL HELL AT THIS POINT I WOULD SETTLE FOR THE COMPANIES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ITS EXISTENCE!!!
I dont want a sequel, its a complete story. I want a remake in an alternate dimension where remakes are 1:1 with the original but with high effort production values made by real devs instead of outsourced jeetmakes with worse visuals and gameplay/story downgrades.

just started this game and cleared a couple dungeons. any cryptic bullshit or general advice I should know? using the map that came in the box to figure out where to go
thank god for the money making game, I got lucky twice in a row. tomorrow we raid level 4. also I found the entrance to level 8 so thats neat.

The name's Link, and I'm braver than brave.I got a wooden sword from an old man in a caveand when my hearts are maxed out, it shoots an energy blade?I don't know how exactly that works, but that's okay with me.Eventually I'll find my way out of this mazeNorth West South West I'm on my way to the graves. When I master the Master Sword, I'm goin' to townon Zelda's upside-down Triforce, with one in the brown. You can't stop me from coming, I am the Hero of TimeYa better run for your fuckin' life, I'm "cummin' inside" (Haha)
>>12254784The tile to which the caves are located, IE; bombable burnable areas, are all the same tiles between screens. So you don't have to burn every bush. Just the bushes in the locations to which stairs are commonly found.

Why did it fall off so hard after II? III was multiplayer, but there was no single player game until IV, which departed radically from the originals and became more like Doom 3, but failed to live up to how good Doom 3 was.

This game was extremely popular around here when it was first translated. Why did no Western developer ever try to build on that formula?
>>12254531>no Western developer ever try to build on that formula?well some of the ROT3K games got translated ....but in general /vst/ games are kind of dead now? esp turn based games.

I think it's very cheap on Nintendo's part to resort to emulation when they have the source code.
>>12257075My /vr/ confession is this service is how I do the majority of my retro gaming nowadays.
50 bucks a year is still better than what Sony charges for their online.
>>12257075>>12257115>>12257187Nintendo has source code for basically everything they've ever done, however nobody at the company would know what to do with any of it. I've exposed this before but Nintendo doesn't program their own games, they never have and never will. A famous example that some people do know is Donkey Kong arcade, the team at Nintendo designed the game on paper and then the design documents just got shipped off to a company called Ikegami Tsushinki who actually made it reality.Up until recently when they just outright purchased them, Nintendo outsourced all programming work to a company called SRD. SRD in basic terms made the game engines, wrote all the code and then creates what are essentially level editors and other middleware that's easy for the artists and level designers to create everything you actually see in the games. Then they'll usually have a couple basic "programmers" whose job it is to tweak minor shit that SRD already wrote so they can get the game working and feeling exactly how they want. The SRD crew often even goes uncredited in these games, usually either a generic SRD special thanks is given or they'll credit whoever was in charge of whatever given team within SRD programmed said game.Anyway, regardless of if they have the source code for the games or not they'd have to hand off porting duties to someone else just because they don't have any in house programming talent.
>>12257215>50 bucks a year for emulation of dripfed titles is a good dealIf retards didn't exist, Nintendo would've bankrupted several times already
They'd rather just have some random team of autistic Europeans work on emulators for their old consoles and throw as many roms as it as they can (even for shit that isn't even theirs), than bother with getting fucking 6502/z80 assembly and old ass C code for multiple games to work on Switch. It's understandable.Even if they did go through the trouble of porting, you idiots would call it "Sovless" or some bullshit for not being exactly 1:1 the original experience.

>>12257192>FFVIII was the first video game to be translated into Spanish from JapaneseI remember playing both English and Spanish back to back and the first minutes just seemed the same text in different languages to the point it was extremely fishy.
>>12257160You are a retarded faggot on so many levels that I'm not sure where to begin.
>>12257192and so the italian version i guess
>>12257147Don't lie with your pic, Anon.>>12257201VII is the one that used the English localization as its basis. It was a rushed effort full of stiff, literal translations that inherited numerous errors from the English version. VIII is significant because it marked a major shift in Square's internal localization process for Europe; the company revamped its approach following the backlash over VII's quality. As a result, the Spanish version of VIII is often more faithful to the original Japanese dialogue and character names than the English version, boasting far more natural-sounding dialogue than its predecessor. This improved standard was maintained for subsequent European localizations of the series, although games like X had to adhere more closely to the English script to stay in sync with the voiced English dub.

The loss of the uncompressed Blade Runner (1997) assets is probably one of the biggest PC gaming tragedies
>>12254379why not just uncompress them
>>12254379>>12255061Is there a gallery of all the ones available?
>>12254550Are you actually confused about women dressing slutty but then getting mad about male attention? Have you ever been to a gym? This is the most realistic part of the game.
Why every game with pre-rendered background has the loss of assets ?I'm tired of seeing this thing happening again and again. There are those AI upscaling texture packs to "restore the backgrounds" but they don't look good, often times creating details where they doesn't exist.
>>12257132In Blade Runner's case at least, it was likely because the uncompressed assets had a size of 1 TB. Mind you, this was the late 90s.
How does Klonoa (GBA) compare to Klonoa on the PS1/PS2
>>12256209Worse in every way

He raised Magus like his own son and he turned on him. That's cold blooded, man.
>>12256180truth is that's how all the coolest guys in history are formed
>>12255948I think Ozzie was a lot harsher to Magus than treating him like a sonLet's also not forget that Ozzie instills such a sense of cruel-hearted entitlement in his actual children that it carries through for the next 8 generations, it's not that hard to imagine him being rough on young Magus, treating him more like a living weapon to be wielded than as a person>>12256180Kind of true, but also downplays the extent of the tragedies he went throughAfter watching his mother go insane, his entire world literally falling into cataclysm, losing his sister then being raised by a guy like Ozzie, Magus probably turned out about as well as you could expectThat he's willing to ally with the party and keeps his ultimate goal of destroying Lavos in mind above all else speaks to a sense of rationality and resolveNot the most heroic qualities but still, at least he's not as petty as Dalton
>>12255967>>12256242I always wanted a proper anime series based on Chrono Trigger (not counting that goofy OVA that starred the Nu). But that ship has sailed since if they made it today it would have ugly CGI and everything would look overly shiny and polished, unlike the soulful art style of old anime.
>>12256204He's a colossal dickhead but he's very strong, and the world is at stake and he is a fellow human against the common enemy.Frog chopping his head off with Masamune is plenty justified but I also think that wouldn't be the Frog thing to do since Frog got over seething endlessly about past failure, unlike Magus. Also Magus can't travel through time unless it's by accident so abandoning him in antiquity to try and unfuck his people wouldn't really matter.
>>12257161>Frog got over seething endlessly about past failureHe doesn't really do that until you complete the side-quest of putting Cyrus's spirit to rest.
megaman clasic and megaman x are overrated same repeated shitthese games are all the same. no difference between megaman x1 and x3. no difference between megaman 5 and 3. all the same shit
>>12254086>>12252662(continued)&forte... I... I think I remember it was a hard game, yes, but don't remember anything. I remember King tho, think it was fucking bullshitAnother hard game was X6, but that one is different, we all know why lol a mess, it's supposed to be fun but's it was obvious the game wasn't tested at all and that everybody suffered making it, a game that wasn't suppose to exist, so the result felt like a fucking huge improvised mess. but I dont hate it lol it's a game to remember, think back and laugh at>11oh megaman 11 exists? whoa it seems I've been living under a rock
>>12245681Zero and ZX suck though. No charm.
another important thingwhat THE FUCK is even the lore???each games has 1000 robots. characters. each one. they all look the same tho, they serve the same purpose: being mere strong robots to be defeated >>12245681when I played 9 I saw Magma man and lost my shit lol I was readinghttps://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/MegaManClassicVillainsdamm, all those villains.. they come from the future, the outer space, they appeared in minor games... yet they are not different at all to the main games' characters. they're all flat as fuckthe franchise timeline is vague as hellthe consistensy of the timeline is vague as hellyou just shoot and destroy some robots that'ts all, there is zero sense of growth, immersion. in Mario you know it's a fantasy world, so anything can happen, Mario himself is written to be just what he is - but Megaman?? he is some sort of shonen hero, but his story, his universe, is vague and flat as fuck. and so are his gamesunlike >>12254965Zero and ZX have actual growth and progression. you can actually tell what happened in Zero 1, you can actually tell what happened in Zero 2 and how it led to Zero, and so on. Sonic trilogy from the genesis managed to tell a consistent, rational story, world, geography, GROWTH. in megaman it's all the sameI remember when I played 8 decade ago, what the fuck was Duo? who the fuck cares, nothing really matters in megaman. there is no WEIGHT, and the games themselves show that
People jerk off X1 too much. Its not that much better compared to X1-X5.
