Who the fuck came up with this shoulder button design? You see it everywhere and it's fucking RETARDED. All four shoulder buttons on ONE row?? Do they expect a new finger to just jut out of your index fingers like a Xenomorph's fucking mouth so you can press both buttons? Just have 6 face buttons and 2 shoulder buttons for fuck's sake.

PS2 on android is fucked, its a dead emulator using copy pasted code from an ancient build of pcsx2.
You got tricked. The few games that I would consider to work well have an absolute fuck ton of input lag.

Only miyoo shills called it shit. It's basically perfect for what it's trying to do. If you need a different screen, more power, or thumbsticks, go with something else. But if you want that flippy screen with autosleep function, nothing else does it.

It isn't just android, PS2 on ARM as a whole is fucked. Linux is actually far worse (which was somewhat surprising to me).
As far as chinkhelds go, the only thing worth playing are RPGs, and who gives a fuck if turn based games or tales of whatever are inaccurate/have input lag. All that matters is that text is legible and it runs at full speed so things sound decent.
Just leads to retarded, hard to predict situations like the rg406v being better than the RP5 at ps2, even though its T820 is slower at everything else.

You know, the moment you realize all these big retro handheld reviewers are the same, you suddenly see why they all have the same holes in their reviews. The reasons they all care about the dimness of a screen, rather than the brightness is because most of their gaming time happens in bed when their wife is asleep, and they don’t want to wake her up. And not only that, but they’re also all cat owners, and guess how much you need to walk a cat every day? Literally never. These people only ever go outside when their wife goes shopping at the mall or the grocery store, and thus they never find themselves playing handhelds in direct sunlight while, say, walking their dog. Out of all my handhelds, the RGB30 was the ONLY one bright enough to play in direct sunlight, and not a SINGLE reviewer mentioned that as a plus.
>>
>>11449060
>Russ is an idiot.
I won't deny it, but how does that relate to my comment? I only watch those "reviews" muted as hardware demos.

>>
>>11449081

>>
>>11448809
I just got mine (The refresh of it with the quieter buttons and the small plate to separate the battery from the CPU) last week and the only thing I would say negative about it is that the shoulder buttons needed to be more like the SP. They're extremely clicky rather than spongy like the SP and they feel stiffer than a real SP. Other than that I really love it.

>>11448890
Stock and Knulli sleep as soon as you close the lid. Stock will immediately resume when you open it, Knulli will resume after you press the power button with the lid opened. Supposedly the latter saves battery more than stock but I don't know if anyone's tested it. You can also set it up so that closing the lid shuts the system down instead of sleeping.
I believe muOS was the one with massive battery drain when you closed the lid and put it to sleep.
>>
Ok now trying to decide between the MM+ and the Brick. Heard the MM+ has a better dpad but the Brick has a better screen. Which should I go for.
>>
>>11449102
>Isn't that ze point of hanhelds? Game wherever ya go?
Yeah but no handheld was ever designed to play outdoors.
That's why even official ones never had bright screens.
>>
>>11449035
Only the 1000 model has OLED screen, the others have way better LCD screens than those crappy ghosty ones the PSPs use
you better stop arguing with strawmen in your head, and accept you're retarded
>>
>>11449107

>>
>>11449123

>>11449124
The brick?
>>
>>11449118
Face buttons are extremely clicky. If you've ever used a Vita then imagine those face buttons but much flatter.
D-pad is nice, I have no issues with it and I'm not getting false diagonals, but it's also clicky. Closest comparison I can make is a DS Phat but stiffer. They're not super stiff at all, but on the refresh they're not wobbly at all and very little travel.
>>
>>11449131
The Miyoo.
It's made out of the thinnest, brittlest plastic possible, the worst build quality with exposed seams everywhere, and a terrible screen. Don't waste your money.
Brick or RG35XX Plus.

Im really tired of these mentally inept "reviewers" doing 0 research or even basic observation
For example, the 'nig sp buttons
Is the problem from the membrane or the actual stem?
I placed a layer of tape in between and used it for a week. Lo and behold it pierced right through, meaning the stem is too damn sharp.
I lightly sanded all the stems on the buttons and dpad until they were a flat surface.
That fixed both the membrane piercing issue and made the buttons a lot less wobbly
Was that really so hard? Why the fuck did no one properly diagnose this?
I might start making videos myself just to dunk on these morons

No muOS was the best compromise between putting it to sleep if you close it for a few minutes and then it will shut down automatically after a few minutes of sleep. It was stock that has the battery drain if you let it only sleep when you close it. You can configure stock to turn off when the lid is closed but that's boring.

I thought that was only on earlier versions of stock? Knulli's people in particular talk about how it was changed for stock and how they've been trying to adapt towards how good it was in the newer version of stock.
>>
So the true consensus that I pulled out of my ass is
1:1 for (pretty much Nintendo) handhelds
4:3 is the most versatile and the sweet spot for nearly everything (retro)
16:9 if you are retarded and use fill screen aspect ratio, but perfect for streaming, appstore games. Otherwise just go balls deep and get a PC handheld
>>
>>11449382
16:9 actually has perfect edge-to-edge GBC pixel scaling, from top to bottom, at least.
(160x144) x 5 = 800x720
>>
>>11449271
>>11449290
>>
>>11449382
I use 16:9, stretch everything to fullscreen if the bars bother me, dpad straight on the bottom, analog triggers despite not playing anything that needs them, nds/3ds side by side with one screen bigger than the other, and to top it all off, It's a phone. Fuck you gonna do?

Depends on the resolution as well. 960x720 (4:3) scales GB/GG 5x while 720x720 (1:1) does 4x integer. 1:1 720p also has the exact same estate and scaling as the 34xx.

GBA looks nicer on wider screen. And the TSP can do some PSP as well. And 4:3 content is nice and big. There's plenty of advantages. And just the clear fact that a 5 inch 16:9 720p screen at the TSP's price point is rare.

Almost 30 minute long video of a device that does not include
>a teardown
>any kind of lag test
>a comparison with any existing sega controller
>any mention of the Sega Nomad connection

Instead he spends the runtime either talking in the vaguest possible terms about the device as he fiddles with it in his hands, or by going over the most braindead tutorial information that has nothing to do with the idea of a review. And about 5 seconds of gameplay footage of him playing a fighting game on the handheld that is most touted for the genre.

I despise it when these idiots include a tutorial in the middle of a review. Bonus points when it’s just swapping roms around sd cards.

What you're looking for is videos of Winlator running games on the CPU of the device you're looking at, or a CPU with a comparable benchmark.

In a best case scenario I think you should be able to play 2000s PC games at a better quality than PS2 games due to the PC game probably having a few graphical settings to tweak and being able to run at arbitrary frame rates compared to a PS2 game that probably is locked to a certain frame rate.

Seems a lot more primitive from what I can find online, what makes Knulli so great?

>what makes Knulli so great?
It's a fork of Batocera that visually looks better when it comes to the UI side of things, offers a plethora of options without having to edit inis, has up to date configurations for each system it covers, caters to specifics in each system like the SP's lid closing, and if you want it to be minimalistic is also can be. You can also toggle RetroAchievements on and off rather than being forced to globally have it on, there's a built in scraper which you can manually scrape and edit with, it by default has SSH functionality enabled, it has full Portmaster support, and a whole bunch more.

Unless you are really into minimalism or absolutely need 5 second boot up times instead of like 10-15 second boot up times there's zero reason not to be using it. It's objectively the best CFW out there right now.

Looked into this not too long ago because I'm considering picking one up for myself and it's not that expensive overall for everything you might want.

For the system itself you want either a WonderSwan Color or a SwanCrystal. The SwanCrystal is superior to the original WSC due to the screen if you are buying it as-is with no modifications. If you are screen modding it or buying it pre-modded then get either of them, it doesn't matter as far as I saw.
For a flash cart you want the Flash Masta as it's the only one on the market.
If you are buying an unmodded system it's significantly better to import it from Japan if you know how to search in 日本語, the same applies to physical copies of games as people love to sell stuff in lots. If you like Mega Man then you might want to reign yourself in right now because EXE WS and N1 are both stupidly expensive for what they are. The Digimon games are also up there, especially if you want the Asian releases that actually are in English.

If you're emulating it then anything will work since the thing basically has the equivalent of two sets of face buttons which a d-pad and face buttons cover just fine.

Android doesn't support Xinput gamepads as far as I know
>>
>>11452062
Isn't xinput the most common controller mapping that works with android? My razer kishi and bluetooth chinktroller use it.
>>
>>11452062
>>11452080
Yup, that's it. I just now got my Mayflash F500 to work with the phone. It supports D-input so as soon as I plugged it in the controller detected android and switched over. Works perfectly with RetroArch.

But the THE LAG. oh the LAG. Even with runahead and hard GPU sync it's very apparent compared to my desktop setup.

Deck is American
>>
Can I download the RG40XX H FW from anywhere or do I have to message them as thier site says?
>>
I don't think I like the Deck as much as I thought I would. It's neat, yeah, but it's a near-constant hassle tinkering with shit that doesn't come from Steam's store.
Pirated games are extremely hit and miss when added as non-steam games, I can't get the Ace Attorney titles to work at all.
Some older PC titles with more complex CD cracks aren't working
Mario 64 was a hassle to compile because I needed to run something extra that wasn't mentioned in the guide, found it in an unrelated github issues page. Compiled it to find broken textures so I had to resort to just using co-op DX
GZDoom from the Discovery store isn't working and there's no Deck-compatible version on their site
Once I played through a few of my favorite games it just doesn't seem that great. Kinda wish I'd just picked up a smaller chinkheld and used the rest of the money on getting a Switch 2 when that comes out.
>>

>>

did they fix the loud buttons on the anbernic gba sp?
>>
>>11452291

>>

Datafrog on crack. Surprisingly well built and powerful for the price, absolutely garbage software and cfw support.
>>
>>11452339
The revision is quieter than any example I saw of the original version of it but it still has some loud buttons.

The d-pad is a bit louder than using a DS Phat d-pad but like 70% quieter than a SeX controller's d-pad. It's equivalent to an Xbone controller's d-pad in how loud it is.
The face buttons are slightly louder than a DS4/Dualsense controller but not even close to an Xbone/SeX controller's face buttons.
The start, select, function, and shoulder buttons are the loud ones. They don't have the wobble as bad as the original variant but they are still quite loud. When pressed they're slightly louder than an RG35XX-H's shoulder buttons if that's any comparison and slightly louder than an Xbox controller's bumpers.
>>
Ok I have 1 final question to decide between the MM+ and the Brick. How is the dpad on the Brick? Is it too stiff like some people say?
>>
>>11452429
I don’t have a brick, but assuming it’s the same from the shart, it depends on the game. I don’t have problems with run and guns, but games where you need to roll the whole dpad or require genuine super fast inputs leave marks on my thumb.(Nights attack for gba and spelunky classic)
>>
There's no reason to not get a steam deck right? It can emulate anything I'd want from NES to PS2 and beyond, as well as a lot of modern games, and yet I can't help but look at the RP5. All the reviews for it are raving, and it'd be a lot cheaper than the Steam Deck while still emulating a ton of switch games. I just can't decide a course of action.
>>
>>11452460
The only drawback is the size, it's fucking huge. If you want to actually travel with the device the RP5 is a much better option.

>>11452462
Steam Deck is small though.
>>
>>11452460
There is no reason not to opt for the Steam Deck if you're willing to eat that price or deal with the size. The only reason you'd opt for the RP5 is if you want something smaller or $100 cheaper but the issue is you're giving up power, capabilities, and more in exchange for that. If you get a Steam Deck you
>Get access to up to PS3, Wii U, and Switch emulation which all work well enough.
>Get access to all the standalone and nightly emulators instead of having to rely on the outdated Android-ported emulators.
>Get access to the entire PC game library across the board, be it through WINE, Proton, or native ports.
>Get native Steam support.
>Get a very streamlined setup for your emulators and roms through EmuDeck.
>The plethora of Decky Loader plugins.
>The ability to dualboot to Windows if you want.
>Trackpads.
>If you absolutely must have Android APKs of any kind then you can just load those too.
https://github.com/ryanrudolfoba/SteamOS-Waydroid-Installer
>Literally functions as an actual computer so if you want to use it that way you can.

My suggestion would be that if you are not pressed for money and the size doesn't put you off just spend the extra on the Steam Deck. It opens up a significant amount of options to you both in terms of gaming and practicality than anything else on the market.
>>
>>11452460
Yeah. RP5 feels too expensive for the performance and you're not getting decent Switch out of either.
>>
>>11452460
This is the problem with midrange devices in general. It makes much more sense to buy a small EDC device like the MM+ and just save up for the Deck than to buy something like the RP5 or one of Anbernic's android handhelds. They are in an awkward spot where you have to deal with the shitty user experience of Android and you are pretty limited in what you can do.
>>
>>11452301
I tried to warn you bro. The steam deck experience is for people that don't mind walled gardens and just want to play what is served to them via the steam store.
>>
>>11452524
The steam deck isn't a walled garden lol, it's just Linux. That's like buying a pair of pants 2 sizes smaller and calling it a walled garden.
>>
>>11452524
Nah, you're grossly incompetent. It's overly friendly to non-steam to its own detriment if anything, even letting you mooch off community control schemes for games you don't own.
>>
>>11452460
RP5 has more portability but a deck still does way more and has better community support. I think on the long run it's the better purchase especially if it's the oled model

This was my issue with the steam deck. I pirate a lot of stuff and also play anti-cheat games and while you can get them working, you have to jump through hoops. Like I don't want to unpack fitgirl on my PC then waste time transferring over to the steam deck then run proton experimental and still run into issues with those 10% of games that force me to spend an hour searching through reddit and github for a solution. I just want a handheld that just werks and, for better or for worse, a Windows based OS is still king. If I want to tinker with shit I do that on my PC.

>>
>>11453583
I question your ideas about "runs perfectly".
Every game I play I custom tweak the audio lag, hard gpu syn, frame delay, and runahead settings. And if isn't one of the popular well-established consoles I know there will still be hiccups due to the emulation simply being imperfect no matter what I do.
>>
>>11453596
I have a computer and play games at up to a solid 144fps and I make music and can discern 5ms of lag between two sounds and which one is in front of the other and I haven't noticed any sort of input delay or audio delay problems in super Nintendo, mame, GameCube, n64 and others

I used to have trouble emulating some games with framerate being unstable and bad on any device and after doing some stuff in emudeck it all runs perfectly smooth now. Example, nfs underground 2 and Diddy Kong racing had serious framerate issues and now they're fixed

Though pikmin 1 still slows down to not lower than 30fps when I have like 80-100 pikmin out, and that's the only one that has any kind of problem

Some games for mame don't run unless I tell it to use a different version of mame and then it saves it and works from then on

But I haven't used the less popular consoles much if at all
>>

It looks better than the spreadsheet but it's missing some of the most basic (and imo) important handhelds like the Retro FC/Game Box Plus

At the highest performance/fan setting, my rp5 is quieter than the deck at its lowest setting.

On sport mine is pretty loud but on auto I don't hear it unless I put it to my ear even when playing ps2 games

I really wish the steam deck OLED would go on sale, even 20% off would make it easier for me to justify buying.
>>
>>11455967
Wait for the Winter sale coming up in a few days.
>>
>>11455978
It's up now. That's why I was looking for a sale.
>>
>>11455967
Nigger, the Steam Deck 2 is just around the corner, and there’s no WAY it’s not getting OLED. Just wait.
>>
>>11455986
You got any citations to back up that claim? The articles I've seen say that they're not planning on releasing a new one until after 2025 if not later.
>>
>>11455982
>It's up now
Oh it didn't update for me until just now. Bizarre that they didn't put the Steam Deck on sale, they usually do.
>>
>>11455967
I got a refurbished unit for 459€ the OLED models were available last week for 2-3 days, mine just arrived and it's pretty much perfect not even a single scratch.
>>
>>11455967
If you're lucky you can get a refurbished one for a discount if they have any.
>>
>>11455986
>and there’s no WAY it’s not getting OLED
You've seen the Switch 2 situation, right? They're supposedly going to be LCD so I imagine the SD2 will be LDC at first as well.
>>
>>11456059
This is what's going to happen because they know they can sell a shiny new OLED version later on and get some people to double dip.
>>
>>11456059
Thats because the switch is a console first and a handheld second. Shitty screen, shitty controllers. Ideally you have it hooked up to your tv with a pro controller.

Sold out of the 1st editions
They’ll probably get restocked after the new year
>>

>They’ll probably get restocked after the new year
You'd think, but the way that Palmer and ModRetro are talking, this was the first and ONLY edition of the actual Chromatic. They may make something else later on, maybe a plastic version or something, they are being very vague, citing the expense of the parts they used including the custom screen. If they don't use the custom screen going forward then it's really not a device that is worth using, that's the key feature.
>>
>>11455986
Not only do we have zero specs of the Deck 2, Valve literally just said we're not getting one in 2025.
>>
RP5 unlocked bootloader for solo linux FUCKIGN WHEN?
>>
>>11456441
>retroid
>unlocking the bootloader
lmfao
>>
>>11456367
I can understand that, but I remember them saying they’ll supply replacement parts
If anything he’s probably just being a salesman for that fomo
If they sold out I’m sure they’ll do another run and they would at least do more if GameStop asks them to
>>
>>11456441
They won't unlock the bootloader, they just said they're going to try to have an option at the start to choose to boot into Android or Linux without having to do the Volume Up method.

Is the RG Arc XX canceled? Seems like an H700 and 480p screen would be behind the times to release in 2025.
>>
>>11449083
it means the issue was his user error and not accurate hardware differences
>>
>>11456728
It's a stupid fucking idea in the first place. RG Arc enjoyers want an iteration with more power, not less.

>order anbernig from official ali store free shipping last thursday
>receive anbernig this thursday
Have to admit, if there's one area anbernig (and Powchaddy) absolute eviscerate Retroid, it's shipping and availability.
>>11456728
It was never real anon.
>>
So what's Retroid's best sellers ranking?
>>
>>11456737
Fuck sticks.
>>
>>11456732
What was his issue, anyway?

Kinda surreal seeing this thing play DS games with no border. I wonder if anyone has tried removing the border off of a 2DS to play arcade games like this.
>>
>>11456813
It just feels weird with the text box being so close.
>>
>>11456817
Some games account for border so no-border picture looks ugly broken in the middle.
>>
>>11456831
You can add the gap back in via the emulator right?
>>
>>11456734
This. I want an improved Arc that can handle Saturn.
>>
>>11456850
yes, Drastic supports independent scaling and movement of both screens
>>
I don't have any of these dedicated emulator handhelds but I do have a homebrewed New 3DS XL. How effective is it as a retro gaymin machine?
>>
>>11456984
Good for Nintendo stuff
>>
>>11456989
Even N64?
>>
>>11457001
Outside of a homebrew port someone made of N64, not really. 3DS is good for all the nintendo handheld consoles, NES, and some SNES games. Only big catch is every console has it's own way of installing/running games, so you'll have to do a bit of homebrew research
>>
>>11457014
a homebrew port someone made of SM64**, zoned out, my bad
