Been reading Mark Gruenwald's Captain America, and it's been fun. I love Gruenwald's worldbuilding and continuity autism. What Marvel runs have you read recently? What have you enjoyed?

>>153056718I think Kirkman was a well-known guy by the time he and Liefeld made that Killraven mini, but it was an entirely outsourced project like the 90s Heroes Reborn books were, the money the two Robs got paid was to cover the costs of hiring an inker, colorist, letterer, etc, to get the book fully completed. The whole thing is fully drawn, but the Robs wanted Marvel to solicit the book and legally commit to publishing it before they were going to hire people get it completed, while Brevoort refused to solicit it until they hand it over fully completed. It's been over ten years by now, some of the people involved may have forgotten all about it.
I love how Classic Marvel is just code for Pre-Quesada.
What's the job market look like for the entire animation industry right now? I see a lot of graduates and veterans alike despairing saying they haven't been able to find work for over a year. Is the industry is a dire job drought right now, or is it just confirmation bias that people who don't have work are going to be the loudest online?

>>153055676>>153056509>>153055560Deportations in Wisconsin resulted in farmers deploying robots they already owned on a larger scale, rather than hiring locals. You won't even be able to pick cotton because robots will take those jobs too.>>153055050Ignoring the whole 'employment in boutique industries like drawing cartoons' thing, the reality is that historically people started their own businesses but since the 2007 crash, and then the Obama-Biden years which focused on basically throttling new businesses while giving out SBA loans to H1B indians to buy gas stations so they could talk about all the minority businesses 'created' (bought from some 70yo boomer retiring), there hasn't been a whole lot of real business creation. This is also why the current collapsing stage of finance and taxes is frustrating- you have idiot boomers screaming 'get a job' but then not understanding why bailing out old people pensions is not creating gdp like it used to. Spending miney on boomers created a boomer in the 80s and 90s because they were in their prime working years (30-50) and could contribute positively to the economy. Then they continued to spend on themselves, going into debt on money to be paid by their kdis (now in their prime earning years) while passing nothing down. The 'solution' to much of this- like lack of animation jobs- would be to meet with friends and use AI tools to write and storyboard your own cartoons and have people pay you for them.>>153055378Comment too long. >>153056675Damn, the drop in animated shows from 2024 to 2025 must be soul crushing for some animators. As much as I hate most shows from the 2010's, I had no idea things had gotten this bad.

>>153054823The answer is a simple one, but it won’t be solved anytime soon for any industry. Companies didn’t mind throwing money around when they were handing out a bunch of it during COVID. The free money spigot has dried up and all industries have been tightening their belts since thenJust look at >>153056675, the amount of animated shows peaked in 2021 when they were handing out the most amount of money, and it’s been downhill ever since. It won’t get better again until we get another recession and they start handing out money again
Will it make $2Bil?

do you know this? it's heavily inspired by LOTR but I like it more than LOTR. the story and characters are more interesting. that is my point of view for today.

Tomorrow, April 1st, marks 20 years since The Baby-Sitters Club (1986-2000) went from youth novels to graphic novels (2006-onward), which have arguably been more popular than the originals. To celebrate (doing it today cuz I know this site celebrates April Fools), I'm doing a storytime of that original comic. The first four were done by none other than one of the great modern cartoonists, Raina Telgemeier, best known for Smile and Drama. Not to mention September, we're finally getting a FIFTH Raina BSC comic!I'm excited to share this with you!

>>153057819People often resent the 95 + life rule, but I have to ask, what would you guys consider to be the goldilocks zone of copyright protection? I'm going to be honest here and argue in all sincerity we were perfect pre-copyright act of 1976. 56 years of protections is more than an ample span of time for a work to remain protected. Ideally it should be 40 to 45 years, but 56 atleast allows creators and their kin an extra decade's worth of revenue. 95 + life just makes the entire notion redundant. Why even let copyright lapse at that point? Not to mention the absurdity of trademark law. Yes sir, 56 years was the golden ratio. Just think by 2030, everything made upto 1974 would lapse into public domain.

The deconstruction of superheroes is the most overused and predictable trope in comic book history. From watchmen to invincible, and all that crap inbetween by obsessed tryhards like garth ennis, warren ellis and rick veitch. How come this shit still sells, after 50 years of shameless uninventiveness?
>>153058969>Yes, yes they are overused, they are overdone and tired.>why do people keep making anti-thesis, why cant we stick to the thesis forever?
>>153060066You know what I want? An evil superman that is actually competent and a superman consistent on whether he's an alien or a gifted human.
>>153052335we should unironically go back to human adventures without random alien gods.
>>153052335>shit stills sellsIt does not. The big 2 are loss leaders getting propped up by their parent companies. As a result they have no money (or inclination) to attract top talent and have instead resorted to hiring Hollywood rejects or just random nobodies as personal favors. Hacks hire even more hacks and push the competent people out (nature of business) and the leaders who are supposed to prevent this from happening are too busy acting like nice guys and getting jerked off for work they did 30 years ago (Jim Lee). They are fine with letting (superhero) comics die because according to them the medium has run its course and has no hope of ever becoming profitable again. It also attracts problematic people and offers them an escape from everyday life which is also a terrible thing apparently..
>>153052335>How come this shit still sells, after 50 years of shameless uninventiveness?Cause they have endings...
