How are the chances of seeing more Smiling Friends-clones with the series ending for good?
>>153060952BOOBS
>>153058556what does this have to do with smiling friends?
It’s not ending, they’re doubling down on the fake out because everyone predicted April fools. They left a clue in the claymation special. 11:47 is 707 seconds, 7/07 = July 7th, the date when they’ll make the announcement for Season 4.
>>153061860ugly characters
>>153058556To try and answer this question seriously, I think that at best other shows will only ever really be able to mimick a part of Smiling Friends' visuals and pacing. Otherwise, they are doomed to be only malformed clones at best. They won't be able to quite get the writing down pat, they'll never quite be able to draw on such a wide pool of amateur talent, they'll never be able to make the visuals quite as funny. I've never heavily watched anything the Zach H. and Michael C. ever put out but I know they both have followings. Quite earnestly, I think that Smiling Friends was very deeply driven by them and their inner circle of friends and collaborators and those they invited to help them, and every attempt at cloning the show will inevitably run into too much corporate interference to ever reach similar levels of success. Maybe I'll be wrong but that's just my two cents.Like, consider >>153060964. It's posted in jest and so on but I legitimately think that anybody who tries to clone Smiling Friends, coming from the direction of an executive, will only ever be able to produce Screaming Friends. Anybody who tries to produce Smiling Friends clones as creators will never quite be able to get the chemistry right.

Which of these two colossal comic book giants is the superior yarn spinner, and which do you prefer? Who has the better comics under their respective belts?
I'm going to go with Johns, I don't really care for Kirkman's work.
>>153064239>forced drama slop master>serial autist that cant let people play with his toysboth kinda suck but johns is the one who did not spend his entire career writing derivative slop
>>153064239At least Johns has some good ideas every once in a while. Kirkman has nothing but bad ideas.
>>153064239Johns has greater highs but lower lowsKirkman is a good businessman

I kinda wanna watch pic related because I like some of the character designs but there's a whole bunch of YouTube videos saying how bad the show is. Should I?
>>153055602I watched season 1 and didn't enjoy it. I thought the songs were lame and don't enjoy infinite sex jokes.
>>153063113Is ironic to say that on the internet
>>153061333Yeah pretty much. Criticism for HH falls into two different categories: actual genuine criticism regarding the writing and bitching about how the show is "problematic" because the characters are heckin' mean in Hell.
The songs are good but ultimately it’s a kid’s show pretending to be adult animation.
>>153064287I think the only time I went "oh yeah this is an adult show" was the Poison sequence

how do we fix the modern indie cartoon slop problem?
>>153059866The solution is to just enslave these people and force them to do normal work since they clearly are not capable of being independent not parasitizing the commons>muh trauma People who cry and piss their pants about “trauma” are never actually traumatized and are always just blaming others for their own psychological fragility which is their own responsibility and demanding resources while not giving anything of equal value in return.

A hero. A villain. A reporter. Three old men, on one night in Gotham, each have encounters that will reverberate across their city forever.
>>153061524Read Batman in the 70s starting with #217 and Detective Comics #394, it's full of small stakes stories. In the 90s, Legends of the Dark Knight was a "Year One-era" anthology series full of the stuff. In the early 00s you have the Rucka Detective run and Brubaker's Batman run, though it has its frustrating aspects of Bruce Wayne being non-communicative towards his allies to a ridiculous degree.

>>153061112Oh no...
>>153055692Of course >>153055915Shill>>153055960Those were all pretty dumb, too, but at least the Luthor one kind of makes sense since you could say the whole country isn't necessarily clued in to the goings on of Metropolis, especially in a world where next world ending that's are happening in every city on the planet almost weekly.Gotham is familiar with Ivy, and Savage being there is just weird. Not only would Mayor make more sense for him but am I to assume he went through police academy and served as a police officer for multiple years before transferring to Gotham? You don't get to just be the Commissioner because you want to be you have to also be a cop with an outstanding career and he also seems like the kind of guy that would go for political office instead.Ivy doesn't seem like she'd doneither of these things. Her whole thing is she doesn't like people and wants to be left alone in nature. This is like if Killer Croc got elected Mayor. Also just saying something similar happened in comics before isn't a justification. Not only could it be missing context that makes this dumb but there's also dumb stuff that happened in comics before like Supergirl's horse being a guy who wanted to screw her that got magically transformed into a horse or pretty much any time someone has gotten raped. Are you gonna turn around and go: "Well Dr. Light became a serial rapist in Countdown so Mr. Freeze should do it, too!"Also even if it was was good it would just be a retread of a dumb event that already happened. Does anyone care about Calvin and Hobbes anymore?
I still have my collection of all the books!
>>153044317>inescapable suburbiaNot to poo poo your thesis but Calvin's home is based on Chagrin Falls, Ohio, which is semi rural and where people tend to own a lot of acreage around their houses. Calvin has a lot of space to play outside because he doesn't exactly live in the suburbs, he's not within walking distance of a town square where he can go interact with people. Its inescapable for him because he's six years old.No arguments with anything else you said, the contrast of Calvin's imagination and his difficulties in school and interacting with peers is a fairly unique depiction of "gifted-style kid" in media
>>153046825>I don't see it at big bookstoresthe collections have literally never gone out of print, your personal experience is not reality, people still buy Calvin and Hobbes books
>>153063587Not that anon, but there was a video about it that came out recently.TL;DR of the story is that United Feature Syndicate had this stupid-ass Robotman character that they were trying REALLY hard to make the new "thing" and had toys and an animated TV special for him and everything. They also wanted him in a comic strip and told Watterson they'd pick up C&H if he added Robotman to it, but he said no.Nowadays, Robotman and his whole "brand" seem to be extremely obscure and did not reach the massive mainstream success they were trying to manufacture for him, most likely because he kind of fucking sucks.I'm having trouble even finding much about the character because google searches just pull up the DC character instead, I'd safely say he's been forgotten
>>153041126Snarky cynicism in a creative medium inherently involves sniffing your own farts on a regular basis, no way around that no matter how modest you make the setting, but it does manage to balance it by being funny and wholesome, even tragic at times; and I do respect Watterson for refusing to sell out when it would have made him pretty damn rich with little impact on his existing work. How many other creators, especially the 'woe to the world' types can claim the same thing?
