The Avengers against Strange instead of The Great Society, fighting to get through to him and make him realize Doom’s evil or something. Fighting one man and his pet eldritch horror seems like good bait for a CGI slopfest and could look good in trailers.

Depictions where the symbiote is truly alien and only understands selfish desires/primal instincts that benefit itself and the host until Peter teaches it to help others is the way to go. So you could have the bell scene where it saves Peter but still have it feel betrayed and try to fight Peter afterwards anyway.
