I prefer my beetles blue if it’s all the same to you

Scooby Doo is a long franchise created by Hanna-Barbera in the 1960's, and it’s wild to think how many different forms it’s taken over the decades. From the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! with its classic monster-of-the-week formula, to the more comedic takes like A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, and even the darker, more serialized Mystery Incorporated, the gang has been reimagined countless times.

We’ve had direct-to-video movies like Zombie Island and Witch’s Ghost that pushed the franchise into more supernatural territory, live-action adaptations in the early 2000s, and even crossover specials with Batman, WWE, and more. Each era has its own flavor, whether it’s campy, spooky, or tongue-in-cheek.

So, /co/, what’s your favorite Scooby-Doo Character and which guest character suited the gang best?

continuing;

Shaggy & Scooby-Doo
>the Heart & Soul of Mystery Inc, both are a lot smarter than what their usual laidback and goofy attitudes would seem, Shaggy happens to be a top tier athlete in spite of his gangly figure(and due to a stint at a military school when he was younger is actually rather good in a fight when he can maintain his nerve), Shaggy's also often the first one to figure out what the real plan of the villain is due to his admittedly paranoid nature(he's a bit of a Conspiracy Nut in his downtime), Scooby meanwhile is an amazing tracker and while he is somewhat cowardly, push come to shove he is still a rather large and strong dog with some very sharp teeth, as more than one villain has had the misfortune to find out

Velma
>often assumed to be the brains of Mystery Inc due to her large vocabulary and a tendency to often have her face in a book or computer, the truth is while she definitely has the most book smarts of the group, she considers her friends to be her equals in terms of intelligence, indeed Velma is in truth Mystery Inc's muscle, as underneath her usual baggy sweater is in fact mostly muscle, as she spent much of her childhood protecting herself and her sister from bullies until she met the other members of Mystery Inc, which has left her as having an outright phobia about being weak in any respect which she fights by making her body as physically perfect as possible and her mind just as strong, which leaves the fact that she's legally blind without her glasses a glaring weakness from her perspective, indeed every time she loses them she has to do her best to avoid having an outright panic attack over it

Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo are the core permanent members of Mystery Inc, but many of their adventures involve various friends and family members joining in as well

So I was thinking, how old exactly was Shaggy's Uncle Beauregard when he died? Is it even possible?

He was definitely too old to be Shaggy's actual uncle, maybe his great great uncle. We know he was a colonel in the Civil War and the youngest Confederate colonel was Henry K. Burgwyn who was 20 in 1862, so he could've done something similar and ended 1865 as a 20 year old colonel. Let's say "Where Are You" took place in 1969 when the show came out, we know the gang was still in high school. They were the ages of 16-17 according to the "Scooby-Doo Character Reference Guide" so they'd likely be juniors entering their senior year during the show. After Scrappy joined the gang, we know Velma went to college for NASA while Fred got a writing job, so he likely joined them when they were seniors. Scrappy turned 3 during an episode of "The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show", while the "Scooby-Doo Character Reference Guide" says he's 5 which is probably his age in his last appearance in Reluctant Werewolf.

So using Scrappy as a reference, we could assume it's been almost 4 years since "Where Are You" to "Boo Brothers", so a 20 year old Beauregard lived to be around 128 before dying in 1973, older then the verified 122 year old world record holder but still younger than the unverified 129 year olds on Wikipedia. So I guess it just barely works, good job Hanna Barbera.

I was surprised to see Anaxus doing this. Or maybe surprised isn't the right word. He was always known for outright tracing shit. But it looked like for a while he was actually improving. I was looking forward to seeing him start to make out on his own style. But at some point it seems like he gave up on that and just started AI-ing everything after he traces and it really stands out.

I do the exact same thing.

I'm so much less stressed when my Patreon became successful enough that I didn't need to rely on commissions.

Which two do you prefer, top or bottom? The older I get the more I feel like Quickstrike and Inferno were absolutely superior, just way more original as TF characters

Wait I mixed up Scorponox and Tarantulas
>>
Speaking of Beast Wars, is there any information behind the creation of the PSX/PC video game? The game didn't feature the show's VAs, music or environments. Things Mainframe owned. This makes me wonder if there was a legal issue involved.

>>152015120
Bottom. I find Scorponok monodimensional, but so is Inferno. Yet I love Inferno. Inferno also jobbed in his introductory episode, but somehow I never minded that either. Terrorsaur was a softer Starscream. He wasn't as clever, he wasn't as dumb, he wasn't as dynamic, he wasn't as flamboyant. He was alright but not amazing. Quickstrike was a bad cowboy who transformed into two dangerous creatures of the desert. He was a fuzor and a transmetal and that made him visually striking.
>>
>>152015189
The other issue was Tarantulas and even Blackarachina were just the more interesting traitors by the end of Season 1 and Terrorsaur had kind of run his course with his coup attempts that it was getting pathetic and probably wouldn't be believable for another season. Terrorsaur's biggest problem is he's a complete fucking moron, and you can even see by the end of Season 1 it looks like the writers were done having him lead coup attempts and started putting him in an idiot trio with Waspinator and Inferno because of how dumb he was. He and Scorponok kind of were the same kind of stupid, just on the complete opposite ends (One extremely loyal. the other extremely treacherous). As other anons have said, Inferno and Quickstrike were literally just them but better gimmicks, so even if they had stuck around I imagine they would've turned out similar to those two just with less interesting personality flair. Also, the only reason they gave the two of them and out to come back is you got to remember that this was a show to sell toys, so if Hasbro ever demanded they bring them back because their toys were selling like hotcakes even though they were gone, then they probably would've brought either of them back. Hell, we kind of have to thank the technical limitations/Hasbro demands for the two of them and Tigatron/Airazor to be written off because it convinced them to start writing in deaths to their scripts, which is how we got some of those iconic Beast Wars Episodes due to said limitations.
>>
>>152015244
Quickstrike was the meanest, that was pretty much his thing. Terrorsaur and Tarantulas were cruel in their respective selfishness and mad science, Inferno was cruel in his role as a warrior, but Quickstrike was just a nasty boy who loves to be bad, didn't have any higher agenda or goal other than relishing in being a scoundrel
>>
>>152015425
Beast Wars was really damn good at making the characters a threat then a complete goober, and back to being a threat again.

Worth reading? Nobody really brings it up anymore.

The writing being okay to good is the best fodder for adaption and I thought the show did an admirable job creating its own visual identity while still being faithful to the look of the comic
