I need to buy my adult brother a laptop, his old one broke and now he's very upset...He has special needs. Just something really basic, all he does is look online at pictures of dinosaurs, animals, and pokemon.

What's the cheapest and most basic thing I should go with?

fair enough, I forgot about that. xi was the one who vetoed that rule for tesla's sake (cause elon is autistic about holding onto his brand like with starlink in SA) and I would think he'd do the same for the other brands too.

There's no overstating just how much harm anti-nuclear greens had done to this continent. Penalty for these politicians should be firing squad not an awkward endorsement.
It pains me but there's no faction for me currently, I'm pro nuclear, strongly pro welfare, anti-immigration, anti-fascist, pan-european federalist.

READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

What are you trying to do? Check RAM for defects? Check system stability? For the former Just use memtest86+ (bootable) or 'memtester' (console program). For the latter prime95 with various FFT sizes should work.
>>
>>107567434
I already have a workflow of MemTest86+ for defects and HCI MemTest for system stability, but I've been curious about TM5 because it supposed to hit RAM harder and faster (take less time for testing). As far as I understand P95 has more CPU involvement than necessary for explicit RAM testing and puts way less sustained stress on the memory directly, I guess it's not bad for checking the IMC and I still use it for CPU validation anyway.
>>
>>107567739
You can't test memory without testing the CPU.
>>
>>107567823
>You can't test memory without testing the CPU.
*IMC, sure if you want to make that case y-cruncher is the pick then, still no answer on TM5??
>>
>>107567879
>*IMC
Not just that, it's physically impossible to test memory *in software* without also testing the CPU. And yes y-cruncher's fine too. Never used TM5.

This lowers GDP and thus will not be allowed.

As others have pointed out, the primary use for AI will not be companies generating new revenue with it but lowering existing expenses. Expect higher CEO pay, dividends, and stock buybacks AKA more of the same last 40 years

Unless ai can bring real benefits, building data centers is just postponing the economic crisis. Yeah, a bunch of buildings have need created and mony has been circulated, but the only thing to come out of them so far are some moderate automation, cumbrain shit and more scams. Not enough to offset the cost, let alone propel the economy forward. Something profitable will need to come out of it, or it's not going to hold.

internet should get segregated
you can access your own zone anonymously but you need photo id and real name to access other zones
let India Russia Africa China scam each other
let South Americans huehue at each other
let Americans yell 'miga trump bad' at each other
let European exchange ideas in peace
no more fake news by foreign bots and foreign social media troll farms
discuss.

Just put it in your `~/.config/guix/home/config.scm` under `home.sessionVariables` like:

(home.sessionVariables
(list (cons "GUIX_PROFILE" "$HOME/.guix-profile")))

Guix Home will handle the rest, no need to touch the read-only bash_profile.

With the regular transclusion, it loses the file link, it becomes invisible, I hate that. Yours keeps it, and openly tells ":transclude"

I need dat. Contribute bac to the org-transclusion/main naoow

Btw, does your thing work with id: links (from org-id library) as well??
