Windows 11 is shit but I like it's aesthetic. It reminds me of Windows 2000.

i believe they couldn't make aero work fine in longhorn so they were changing stuff until they restarted everything and Vista got the final aero version that was still demanding on most PCs.

Maybe they also felt they needed to compete more with OSX which felt incredibly elegant and futuristic, and at the time Jobs loved to bully the hell out of Microsoft
>>
>>107651125

jobs baited microsoft with os x
the reason os x was so goated at the time is because forstall and others spent years perfecting NextSTEP and its APIs, and at the end they had an Unix that could run circles around the WinNT kernel. Cocoa is probably still the most pleasant to program desktop API.

Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

Is there a way to tell just buy looking at a drive if it's a Power Disable/3.3 PWDIS drive pr mpt

I'm getting conflicting information from Seagate support and other hard drive/server part sales sites if the ST12000NT001 and the ST14000NT001 are Power Disable or not, after initially being told they weren't and ordering the latter.

I'm new to server and NAS stuff and I don't know how i'd tell the difference between plugging the drive in and it being a bad drive vs it simply being power disable, though obviously if I plug it in and it works then I should be fine?

Do you think that they will keep Xorg on KDE alive after KDE officially drops X11 support in 2027?
>>
>>107648208

xlibre is taking off.
if KDE does not want to support it, then they can support wayland for all i care.

there are over 9000 window managers and desktop environments which were made for X11 and those are not going to get ported to wayland so who cares about what KDE thinks of X11? let them.

in reality, they will probably have to support X11 because again, xlibre is taking off and x11 is being saved.

x11 is the standard for a reason and xlibre is saving the fucking 40 year old standard.
who will win? some half-finished half-defined protocol pushed by a bunch of trannies or a 40 year old standard?

and what is a DE anyway?
just take fluxbox, slap some file manager and you have a fucking DE already.

Why is Windows associated with Jeets? It seems like they would be more apt to use Linux. I thought thirdies liked free software and pirating and it seems like it would be easier on their crappy pcs than Windows.

My keyboard occasionally locks up on my laptop (a modern thinkpad). Whatever was pressed at the moment it breaks just stays pressed forever and no other keys respond to anything.
However the power button works when long-pressed, and also the firmware key combo to toggle the backlight also works, which makes me think it might be a software problem rather than a hardware one. How can I start diagnosing this? So far the only way to recover that I've found is to hard reboot by holding down the power button, so I can't e.g. check dmesg as it's happening.

Mice and the cursor work perfectly by the way.
I haven't tried plugging in an external keyboard yet (I will definitely do it next time it happens, just to see if it works) but the one key that is being considered permanently "pressed" will make it basically impossible to type any commands properly regardless.

The one thing Chance actually does have over Kuroba is the fact it actually allows you to delete posts after a minute while Kuroba either makes you wait 10 minutes for some mysterious reason or doesn't actually delete it at all while claiming it did, as a test i made just now would suggest

Would you get a brain chip implant just to shitpost on /g/?

The neuralink chip compresses/filters all data with their chip so it only operates <10mw for longevity, reduce risk, etc. Its just control thoughts thats being transmitted from chip to bluetooth controller on PC/devices which acts as your key/mouse input. Raw processing is in few hundred Mbps of data, but from there to bluetooth, its few Kbps of control input.

Now if it was a non-BCI tool thats always connected to a power, like a headset that has brain scan feature, then that can scan your entire neurons and not have to worry about any power limits so they can scan hundreds of Mbps or Gbps of raw neuron data if they want to as the processing power can be done via 1000x larger battery bank.

So unironically, you're safer with devices like Neuralink as it has power and compute constraints built in to limit the scope. At least in this aspect and atleast for now

brain chip is useless for anything but replacing computer input devices
what we need is a complete replacement for sensory lobes that can interface with the frontal cortex(for interacting back with a computer via sensory thought if wanted)
imagine replacing your sensory cortexes with ones that can directly stream HDMI 4.20 8K 420hz bing bing wahoo and 192khz 32 bit float audio and back to a PC if you choose to do so

>Windows UI is gradually shifting to web-based components. It’s not just about apps, as we have React within the Start menu. Moreover, we’re now getting WebView2 inside the Notifications Center for the Calendar’s Agenda view. This means a new Edge/WebView2 instance is triggered when you open the Notifications Center.
