Every idea I have has been done 5 times now. It doesn't help my only ideas are types of social media, and I'm ready to just give up because no one gives a fuck.

Seriously though, is there any point in trying to become successful? I could just build stuff that makes me happy and I can feel proud of, instead of caring what others think and stress myself out with users.

Shit son, never heard anyone put it into words like that, interesting shit
>>
>>107838509
Well to elaborate, I think you should try programming more for the fun of it than to make something that will be used by others. Being a "good" software developer isn't something that neccessarily that makes you wealthy, it's more about riding trends and appealing to the masses.
Make something challenging but within your skill level. Learn C or some other language that's closer to hardware. Or perhaps learn about old CPUs and write assembly.
>>
>>107838014
>Every idea I have has been done 5 times now.
That means it's a good idea, as it has succeeded several times already.
>It doesn't help my only ideas are types of social media
Social media has the chicken/egg problem. You need new users, but nobody is joining because the place is empty.
>Seriously though, is there any point in trying to become successful?
The system is rigged. You can work hard to become successful, and maybe you will be. Someone else can just go to the bank, get a pile of tax free income called a "loan" and just buy success.
>>
>>107838014
Is your idea to make some big multi million user application? Well of course it's going to be done to death. Big corpos have a monopoly on that sort of thing.

Return to tradition with the old internet way of doing things, just make websites for things you like and for small communities you want to cultivate. Fuck mass appeal.
>>
>>107838549
I don't try to compete with big social media, but even a niche community is a PIA to moderate. Being a janny is a huge toll on mental health and anything I build must either be zero moderation effort or have an extremely high entry barrier to post. I already have some ideas but it's just so demotivating knowing a functional site won't get me a job/secure a good future because literally nobody gives a fuck! HR karens don't care what I learned and what I'm capable of

Light themes are objectively superior to dark themes, why do so many people still choose dark?

Peer pressure for the most part, and shitty first google results when you poorly phrase it: "black mode vs white mode" shit like that.
Reaction time is better, comprehension is better when you use white mode so stick with it.

how can you tell it's emacs? it looks nothing like stock emacs
>>
Hard to convey this feel but with dark themes it's as if the text, windows, and bordering is back lit, for lack of a better term. Versus light themes, feeling too over-bright or over-lit, especially with glaring overhead led's that melt your retinas.

I'm sure there is preferred nomenclature for this shit post. Sorry, monitor/display aficionados.
>>
>>107838436
Does walking and staring down at the street (like all autists here) melt your retina? You're starring at 500 nits+, way more reflected out of walls, trees and their leaves etc.
Your monitor is at max 300, usually people use them at 100 to 200.
>>
Dark mode is a DEI invention.

>Do you have a test for a simple type of reasoning that a human can do but an LLM-based model can't?
Claude’s best models can’t beat more than a small part of Pokémon Yellow even when given more information than just what’s on the screen but the average 4 year old that hasn’t even learned how to read yet can stumble their way through the whole thing. There is livestreamed proof of this. Does that answer your question?
>>
>>107838670
> do you have a test for a simple type of reasoning

not the guy you asked, but apple published a paper a while ago that showed these models are insanely brittle when you change the prompts for the puzzles by even a little bit. stanford researchers found that they could get models to basically regurgitate 95% of scraped books under certain circumstances.

it's hyperbolizing, but not by much, to say these systems are huge lossy/stochastic compression systems. like great, i can get 96% of harry potter or a new york times article if i prompt for it. no shit, because they scraped that data and an LLM is just a statistical model of the documents you trained with.

i can find the citations for the stanford and the apple papers if you want, but my hunch is the other guy might point to them and i'm lazy right now

If you look at this diff, the question was in the other faq document already, which is why it was removed from the structured-data-firefox-faq document.
But if you look at the current state of the faq document, that question has been removed from there as well.
However in the current structured-data-firefox-faq document it has this question
{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "Is Firefox free?",
"acceptedAnswer": {
"@type": "Answer",
"text": "Yep! The Firefox browser is free. Super free, actually. No hidden costs or anything. You don’t pay anything to use it, and we don’t sell your personal data.\n"
}
},

So it is kind of a mess.

So Linux is a no-go on Nvidia? I need to buy AMD graphics?
27 replies and 2 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107833270
It has nothing to do with the installation procedure, although modules that taint the kernel are much more annoying to deal with than stuff that's built in.
The problem with nvidia are usability related. You'll notice it sooner or later. Specially if you're using Arch, which means you're not on X11 and some horribly outdated nvidia driver which works.

On the contrary. Nvidia hardware with proprietary drivers is still the best combination.
Just stay away from Wayland.

It can work, but you'll have to tinker a bit possibly.

having to waste an entire USB 3 would be a real fucking pain but external ones are like good $5 per tb cheaper so i'm conflicted now

This "operating" system is the biggest piece of shit I've ever come across in my fucking life. It can't'even be classified as an operating system. Windows 11 is a fucking website made with React by the antichrist himself, whose sole purpose is to consume 2 TB of RAM just by opening Notepad, how could you screw up so badly as to ruin Notepad, to ruin Paint, how
the hell did Micropenis manage to add a battle pass to Solitaire, you motherfucking pieces of shit? How can a rational, moral human being with brain cells defend thís mutant technological abortion, 30% programmed with Al? my ass, not even an Al agent would be capable of screwing up so badly as to create this android ripoff. This is the result of a bunch of bad decisions made by peopie whose brains, unfortunately, were unable to develop fully, whose balls got stuck in their abdomen during birth and who don't shit themselves by some miracle of God. 1 bet my vital organs that these morons aren't aware of how shitty this operating system is because everyone at Microsoft uses MacOS. I thought operating systems were programmed by programmers not the fucking marketing department. To those` subnormals, I propose a brilliant marketing campaign: rename this mistake to Windows 9/11, this fucking shitty operating system forces me to use L*nux (Mint, because ï'm not a pedo), at least with that I don't have to drop everything I'm doing and restart the computer for every fucking update, how the hell do you manage to release an update every fucking day? What's being updated, your chromosomes?. One day I'm going to really lose it, and when that day comes, I'Il create a Microsoft account and I swear to God that every time I take a shit, I'1 take a picture of it and upload it to my OneDrive just to fill my OneDrive with high-quality photos of my feces. This OS made me an atheist, because I refuse to believe that hell exists, I refuse to believe that there is anything worse than having to use Windows 11.
