486SLC CPU
It wasn't really a 486. It was a 386 with some 486 instructions.
>The 486SLC can be described as a 386SX with the 486 instruction set and 1K of onboard L1 cache added. Unfortunately it inherited the 386SX's 24-bit address bus (16 MB max. DRAM), and 16-bit datapath which limited its memory bandwidth. Like the 386 and 486SX, it had no on-board x87 math coprocessor, but unlike the 486SX, it could make use of an Intel i287, 387SX or compatible x87 coprocessor. Due to the limitations of the 386SX's bus and its smaller L1 cache, its performance could not compete with the 486SX when the latter was running on a full 32-bit bus.
I needed a true 486 to run a multiline BBS. The 486SLC wasn't able to do the required multitasking, so it was wasted money. At the time I was a teen so I wasn't exactly flush with cash for this type of mistake.

I’m actually not. I’ve just traveled. And you should too, fellow traveler. Creating magic money from nothing and then building civilization with it is the greatest magic the hebrews have ever conjured. Sometimes there are side effects and hangovers. But it is far better to have inflation than to live in a shack made of literal garbage and be forced to eat things you wouldn’t feed your pet dog.

>>
>>107011782
by "swapped" I mean they have both packages now. wget2 is still the default but you can have both installed.
>>
>>107011785
I like Curl and it even comes with a nice wcurl script for easy downloading like
wget <URL>
you can instead use
wcurl <URL>
.

It's missing some nice quality of life things that wget has though like a decent progress bar.
>>
>>107011785
wget has simpler syntax so if I'm just downloading a single file it's a lot quicker to type "wget Ctrl+V" than curl's longer syntax of "curl -o Ctrl+V filename.sh"
>>
>>107011790
Ah, that's better then. People can update their legacy scripts to call /usr/bin/wget1 or whatever and /usr/bin/wget can still be wget2.

I have found only expanders with 2 SATA ports on PCIe 1x. This one takes PCIe 4x, but has 5 ports. I have no ideas what else to put inside that large slot. The only other option for me would be 2.5G ethernet, but that apparently needs only PCIe 1x, so I thought I'd save the little slot for that (if I ever need it).
>>107011430
Too expensive.
>>107009466
>>107009735
It's not great, but I blame it on the ancient PSU. I guess I could get PicoPSU, but my goal was to go low-cost and use as much of my old hardware as possible. This PC will replace 3 other devices on my network, so I'll likely save on total power draw anyway.
>>
>>107011430
it's really quite simple
sata expander = more sata ports
sas hba = not more sata ports
>>
>>107011684
Aren't there special cables that allow you to connect SATA drives to SAS HBA? I was considering it, but the price drove me away.
>>
>>107011696
yeah but why do all this retarded extra shit to use sas when none of my hardware uses sas instead of just having more sata ports
fact is the sata expanders jestwerk

>Learn to use the traditional non-passthrough connectors
the thing is most people never will because normies (like me) crimp like 4 connectors a decade, and you forget how to do it in between. for me, passthrough is very comfy.

For editing documents I only use Google Documents and online tools and I don't edit images and videos, but I add new images and videos every day so I want a decent CPU which gens thumbnails quick and can handle light multitasking easily (switching from YouTube to Google Slides to WhatsApp to file browser to a video on mpv and so on). I've also considered the 265K as CPU but I'd rather not pick Nvidia as graphic card and I'd like to try AMD since I plan to stay on Linux and to use SAM.
