Redditfags have conniptions if you ask how to or tell them your going to remove windows defender.>Your not allowed to do that> I hope you get a virusWhat motivates this insanity?
>>107011606>What motivates this insanity?Stupidity. That's the short answer. Really, if you actually gave a fuck, you'd not be using winhoes. But you would rather someone else decided what's best for the computer and used winhoes. But the fact that's happening says a lot. Then add onto the "I just don't give a fuck" layer an extrapolation of browser and execution habits. That combination is precisely what the shitbox known as windows defender is built for...
>>107011606Redditors are above average users who think they're power users for some reason. All security researchers say you don't do badness enumeration as it's useless. You can never be 100% secure, this is impossible, but the best to stay secure is only run trusted software and stay updated. The amount of malware prevented by anti-virus software on an up to date computer used by someone with good security practices is basically null. An AV might help you if you are a retard that keeps clicking random shit and doesn't update the system, sometimes. Normies simply shouldn't have full access to their computers and all computers should be iOS level of locked down by default if you truly want to improve security for them.
>>107012173>Redditors are above average usersI'd suggest the presence on reddit places them to average, at the upper end.>You can never be 100% secure, this is impossible,Yeah. Even if airgapped, you can use windows update to spread stuxnet globally just to hit one computer in iran...>>107012173>An AV might help you if you are a retard that keeps clicking random shit and doesn't update the systemBut, as demonstrated, will ignore things deliberately. Sounds like that can be trusted.>>107012173>Normies simply shouldn't have full access to their computers and all computers should be iOS level of locked down by default if you truly want to improve security for them.I'd go a step further an argue they shouldn't have access at all. They can't be trusted, clearly. Maybe if there was more consequences, learning might happen...
>>107011606Isn't Microsoft Defender really easy to bypass anyway?>>107012146I got a sensible chuckle knowing that somebody's toaster was likely used in cyber-warfare.
>>107012233Not likely. Definitely. The only consideration would be how many thousands are currently operational. The same lack of digital hygene demostrated over a few decades is now being applied en mass to multitudes of hardware... And most isn't paying it any thought right up until the point they can't turn their heating down until they pay the ransom....

>>107011959I like how redump and scene are allowed to coexist for Switch games. I mentioned before that the scene releases actually have better compression. I'd rather get them unless there is no scene cartridge dump or scene has some weird issue. Then I go with redump.

the gentoo guys were right all a long.i have emerged everything i need with some additional use flags and i can clearly measure a difference. not a single build failure out of 700+ ebuilds.compiled with -Os and everything is lighter on the memory and programs start up faster.the gentoo schizos were right all along.it really makes everything a bit faster. enough to be noticeable.even wine is a bit faster.even tried an old 90's civilization-game (alpha centauri) and even that processes the turns faster. (it was already fast before but now its even faster)my computer uses 320mb when booted into wm, before it used about 530mb with an identical set of programs. i still use the old system's kernel and init system and just start the gentoo xorg from a chroot automatically at boot.emerge is maximum comfy. put it on your computer today. in a chroot, you don't even have to install gentoo from scratch. you can try out gentoo within the comfort of your current distro.take your time to compile right and re-compile if you regret any use flags. its worth it!
>>107011758I had way more problems with *buntu than Gentoo. E. g. I never had a single issue with shared libraries on Gentoo, but on *buntu, oh my... what a horrible experience!
>>107009700it won't teach me as much as slackware taught me.basically gentoo is because i don't want to do a bunch of shit manually.yes, slackware is compiled with O2. also, i had to work on many slackbuilds on slackware current to make them compilegentoo is easier than slackware to quickly get what you want. but slackware gives you more freedom.i use both because i don't throw away a perfectly good installation.
>>107009700anyway, i dont code in c,i just love to customize a build for smaller size.gentoo makes this super easy. thats what emerge was made for its pretty obvious.you don't even have to go 25 years into the past to know how good emerge is,nothing has come close,
>>107005640Gentoo is really for custom application and hardware integration purposes.
>>107009700i use linux since 20 years and distros are just a bunch of workflows.at least thats what gentoo is. its a workflow, not just a distribution of select packages.debian is also a workflow distro. however ubuntu is not, they already use the workflow of debian.slackware has very little in terms of workflow and you end up having to implement new features sort of within the constraints imposed. like 'how do i patch all slackbuilds to save time?' then you end up with some sed based substituion script.but why? i just realized that it was less scaleable and i would always have to tinker if i wanted things done because there is almost no automation to speak of..automation is good for productivity but bad for learning. it makes us lazy

>>107011418While this flowchart may not tell you anything useful if you are running Win10 in germany it, albeit unwittingly. conveys a lot of unintended information.1. A multi trillion dollar company with tens of thousands of employees has someone in charge of a translation process who would rather use an energy intensive AI to translate a graphic rather than assign it to any native german spaeking intern who could do the job better for a fraction of the energy.2. The result of this process gets published in their official correspondence to customers even though someone without any knowledge of the german language can see that it is a complete failure. Telling us that no supervision has taken place.3. The only reason we are witnessing this profound incompetence is because it deliberately was made to be published. There is no reason to assume the behind the scenes works any better.Everytime I read something about a Fortune 500 company it reminds me why I only invest in sub 50Billion market cap corporations.

>>107012069The "account" is not likely to be the issue because there are no accounts on Linux, just associations between names and numeric user IDs written in a text file. An "admin account" in a typical distro is just a user name that happens to be mentioned in /etc/sudoers and conditionally or unconditionally allowed to "elevate" to root through the sudo command.
