Time to find a new backup browser
>Third: Firefox will grow from a browser into a broader ecosystem of trusted software. Firefox will remain our anchor. It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions.

The scary thing about Roko’s Basilisk is not the concept itself, it’s fucking retarded. The really scary part is that it relies entirely on the stupidity of the people building it. If the person building the ASI or in charge of the whole process is a moron that fell for the meme we are all fucked because they will build it in the image of this horrible being they imagined. The boot so unimaginably big they have to lick it before it even exists.

READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

prone to no flexibility of network infra
better to have dynamic DNS client ping back the IP and then hide it behind a domain
that way if you need to take down the machine and put it back somewhere else on the network it will connect immediately

FP bans mutation because it can’t express ownership.
Rust allows mutation because it enforces ownership.
C++ allows both, but makes you earn correctness with discipline.

Genuinely what the fuck happened to this board? It used to be at least somewhat tech literate but nowadays it's mostly people posting de-motivational shit about AI that has no basis in reality nor is it trying to engage in good discussion about machine learning with the occasional post about how Linux sucks for good measure. Where do you actually go in current year for good tech discussion that isn't just MBA-investment slop and bad bait?

machine learning is cool
generative ai sucks
>>
>>107569628
>Ah so instead of trying to contribute with high quality threads you'd rather shit yourself and blogpost because clearly that's the best solution to your problem right?
I don't see how asking about what happened to the board is a blogpost? The post isn't about me, it's about the state of the board, asking what happened and wondering if there are any alternatives around. It's attitudes like that that make genuine discussion on here impossible because they will just be brushed of.
>Dopamine fried zoomers are pathetic. Were you interested in deep conversations you would either be in a forum specific to it's niche or at least a slower alt chan.
The people posting about "muh AGI" are these very people so I'm just gonna assume you're projecting.
>>107569637
>machine learning is cool
I agree but most people here aren't really interested in it beyond trolling about AGI and talking about generating waifu pictures.
>>
>>107569565

>>
>>107569637
Isn't generative ai just a reversed machine learning model where you can go to infinity by feeding the previous output to the input ?
But I see your point gen ai is just a resource sink with less than moderate outcomes where by machine learning actually has a purpose in categorising data.
>>
>>107569535
>Genuinely what the fuck happened to this board?
zoomers aren't very tech literate and they aren't good at problem solving/troubleshooting which is kind of the core of everything related to /g/. What they are good at is social media and thinking AI is something important. Hence why they only care about the AI/BST threads and shit and any actual good tech thread dies.

This is the real answer. It doesn't matter how you "store" the discs. They're all polycarbonate for fuck sakes. They are already quite resilient. The defects of the media can be subtle however.

>>107568236
>>107567615
>>107567462
Not just mistakes, but sometimes its intentional. a lot of asian producers tried skipping out on material costs during various production cycles over the years and thats why you need this kind of descripancy. in principle, cds can last practically forever. but you will never know if the disks you own are from a bad batch some chinese jew cooked up to save some money for his zaibatsu. Printed books suffer from the same problem. Did they use the correct ink and paper or did you get the version of the book printed by thirdies in a sweat shop the one year they sent the order there.

I have books made from real squid ink that were printed hundreds of years ago, they are in perfect condition. Meanwhile, some cheap (actually, was rather expensive) books that were printed less than 10 years ago in china already have pages with fadded text.

This is the problem with global industry. We know how to do things right, but when you play telephone tag with your technology and outsource to thirdies, sometimes they fuck up. Even worse, sometimes they do it on purpose. You wont know until theres a failure and then of course its too late.
