ITT I'll like to do an honest discussion about Linux and its use (or lack of) by normalfags. Why they don't like it, avoid it or simply don't know about it. Feel free to share your personal experiences with friends, relatives or just your general thoughts on the topic.

Some of the main arguments I see from normalfags as reasons to not use Linux usually are (but not limited to)
>having to use the terminal for everything
>you have to do lots of tinkering
>it breaks often
>software availabity

However, some of these are either misconceptions or plain wrong, which to me is confusing because I don't understand where they come from. It's not like every single normalfag used Linux at some point long enough to form these opinions, most of them didn't even know what it was until Windows 10 reached EOL, so where does those arguments come from? tech youtubers? reddit?

Stallberg's logic is that the same abilities you have to freely modify the software gets extended to everyone else by a voluntary contract you adopt (The GPL) FOSS is like public domain with the only exception being derivatives must stay public as well. Its public but without Government involvement.

Yes, the GUI application 'RegEdit' exists and used probably 999 times out of 1,000 by Windows users. You know what we call that 1 out of 1,000 Windows users? The systems administrator who wrote a shell script to automate his job deploying computers for the other 999 users. That person receives formal education to do that job, and is not hired into that position without the education.

You have already sold "Linux(tm)" to that 1 out of 1,000 users. In order to move on to the other 999 users, you will need to move past the terminal.

You already know this though, because you started out as one of those 999 users, running a GUI version of Windows on your first computer. You are merely _pretending to be retarded_ by suggesting the 999 other users should/could/would/will follow in your autistic footsteps.

i just realized belgioom has insanely based laws when freedom of speech is concerned

hatespeech and discrimination laws only apply in a public situation
like if i refuse clients in my business, or i start calling people niggers in a workplace
and even then theres a pathway for the discrimination to be justifiable, but thats a decision left to the judge so your mileage may vary

You assume failure isnt the default case. Failure is the expected final form of a business. Here are the stages of the modern corporation...

>Seed - Few people, little money, maximum effort and quality
>Growth - Some people, some money, high effort and quality
>Peak - Lots of people, lots of money, medium effort and quality, anti-competitive practices and fiscal results become paramount to future business. This is the last phase were 'internal investment' is allowed to occur.
>Decline - Less people, more money, low effort and quality, all focus is on fiscal results and any business practice required to maximize this are on the table. No new inventions, lots of new products.
>Final days - Skeleton crew, less money, no effort, no quality, lots of products, the goal here is to continue running the brand until money stops coming in, or a vulture capitalist decides to pick through the bones.

Observe the trends, understand the motivations, predict the future.

Why are all FOSS note-taking apps so bad at editing text richly, while MicroSlop Winjeet Notes does it seamlessly?
Editing paragraph spacing seems to be the hardest thing for open source developers, while M$ does that with 3 clicks.
You have to overwrite some CSS hidden in the options.
Copying between these apps also screws formatting up, e.g. in LibreOff Writer, while it works fine in Word.
Things like adding line breaks via Replace, also don't work.

I just don't understand rich text in notetaking. Seems like a waste of time, but most people's notetaking usually seems that way to me. I just need
= Header =
- indented dashes
- outlining scopes of things
A whole paragraph about why you can use indented dashes to outline the scope of a concept would normally go here.
[[https://wikipedia.org/indenting-a-hyphen.php | article about indented dashes]]
[[file://~/.indented-dash.jpg | picture of an indented dash]]

Vimwiki is literally perfect, since most of my "notes" are plans, and you can just have links to any material that the note-taking syntax is too retarded for.

The core of OneNote was created before Microsoft jeeted itself. The people who created it are no longer there. It's just a matter of time before it gets jeeted too. They already have been killing off some of the older niche version of the program. Eventually it will be Electron in the Cloud with most of the old core functionality broken.

Fucking bugs everywhere. It wouldn't be so bad if they fixed bugs in a timely manner, but if you find a bug with nvidia driver you can bet your ass that it will be at least 6 months before it's fixed unless it's completely ridiculous and breaks everything.

They do fix it faster if it's really bad... but it has to be really really bad.

XP was responsive because the graphics system drew directly into the front buffer using hardware accelerated drawing commands. No buffering, no vsync, no compositing. The way the kernel was designed certainly helped, but really the main reason was the direct to front buffer rendering. X11 used to work like this as well.

Linux copied its API from UNIX. Microkernels don't even have anything about files or file systems. There is nothing about files or opening or closing in seL4 or MINIX.
