Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share experiences.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources.

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice on bare metal and run your previous OS in a Virtual Machine.
2) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Resources: Please spend at least a minute to check a web search engine with your question.

These are your generic backdoor abusers:

Government: The primary entity leveraging backdoors. They conduct broad internet data scanning via ISPs and only deploy targeted backdoor access when specific individuals pose a perceived significant risk (primarily focusing on mobile devices).

Companies: These entities essentially employ dedicated teams to monitor and record user activity for purposes like advertising, user profiling, and compliance with government-mandated data scans. This represents a constant, broad data collection effort.

Hackers: While technically a threat, they are generally considered less relevant due to their limited resources and individual capabilities compared to the state and large corporations. (This point can be omitted if desired).

The choice boils down to privacy: Do you want your data harvested by governments and tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Google, or do you opt for Linux, which only has government focus?

Thank you deepseek for rephrasing my post.

My Linux system jumped from 2 or 3 GB of free space to zero bytes free. Why? I wasn't updating/upgrading (unless Arch Linux does that without me knowing).

I moved some files to another drive and now have 100 MiB free. How do I do a system-wide check for files created or modified in the past hour? I don't think find is a great solution. "sudo find / -type f -mtime -1" outputs a list of files modified in the past day <s>but it's stuck on something and not outputting anything other than</s>

Different to all the 'child' accounts I've seen...
Where/when this?

I can recall obtaining a debit card in early teens ... but there wasn't any 'internet' then...

>So the solution is to put a limit on their device about how much it can be used.
Fail.
It doesn't address any of the actual problems, it just limits how much you have to deal with it.

The problem is the docile media itself. The teams of paid headshrinkers, that do more than 'optimise engagement'. The data collected and the potential future abuse.

A database isn't evil. It's how the database is used that makes it evil. Limiting access to the database is never going to be as productive as simply not making evil.

Imagine you have 15 minutes to spend on social media per day. Will you look at memes for 15 minutes and be bored the rest of the day? Or will you ask your friends about hanging out later?
In this way it is not just the quantity but also the quality that changes.
>>
>>107544013
It wasn't a 'child' account, it was a regular bank account I opened since I wanted to buy things online as a kid. I can't remember if I needed my parents permission to open it but they definitely did not have access to it. This was about 15 years ago in Australia.
>>
>>107544076
>magine you have 15 minutes to spend on social media per day
I'd rather hack at my nuts with a rusty cheesgrater than use docile media. It's less damaging, long term.
But to play devil's advocate... What *I* would do is circumvent the lock.

Again. The problem isn't access, or time therof. That does nothing about any of the tangible and documented problems. Just changes how much you see the problem.

Also, they're not "objects", they're noun phrases, and they're not "functions", they're verb phrases.

all "BIG TECH" corporations are just sweatshops for jeet programmers, whites cant get hired in any kind of corporate tech companies anymore, so why hide it, just move that shit to India where it belongs

reminder that jeets dont get hired by talent, there are better programmers everywhere else, in middle east, far east, latin america. jeets get overwhelmingly hired by big american tech companies because they have a slave mentality. India is the only country in the world to have a caste system within their own race. Indian people accept being placed into lower class slave positions which makes them the perfect tech worker in large corporate environments where you want everyone to think the same and accept the same level of work. This is also why Indians make good CEOs at big tech companies, they are natural slave drivers, they know who to treat workers as obedient slaves.

the only way a white or any non-Indian can make it now in the tech industry is the startup scene. at least in startups you dont see that many Indians because startups value actually intelligence and creativity.

Do long practice sessions with monkeytype custom where you don't care about time, just finishing a particular # of words, like 3000ish. Pick something you want to read which it would be OK if you opened it to random passages and read them out of sequence, like a book of aphorisms, because can't go back if you miss something. Or if you want to practice punctuation like ; : ( ) { } [ ] " ' etc., you could do a few hundred lines of code. But that's a little more boring.

You could also do something horrible and cringe like picrel to combine the two ideas

I just got mine and it's really good! The print quality is even better than the X1C and the nozzle self-cleaning finally works and it stops flinging poops onto the bed on occasion like the X1C. It's nice.
My filament buffer binds up occasionally causing the print to halt but I think I can mitigate that by lubing some parts. Some people claimed that magnets were installed the wrong way causing this problem but I highly doubt that Bambu doesn't have a process in place to catch such errors in QC.

Right now, W11's default taskbar puts a Firefox icon on both taskbar, which is kind of annoying. Back on W10, I used a pirated version of DisplayFusion but I don't want to use it anymore.
