What does COSMIC do different that Cinnamon and KDE? It looks different and that's sort of it? I know they created COSMIC to get away from GNOME but it's legit the same. Hell, I'd even argue that GNOME is more unique because of the overview button. The only thing that sets COSMIC apart from the rest is probably search Google from the desktop feature.
>>108531987I unironically think Singularity is going to be better and become stable faster than COSMIC so I've been keeping more of an eye on that. COSMIC also hasn't had an update in over a month at this point and I eventually just got tired of its jank.
>>108531987It's main selling point is being a DE with first class tiling window manager features. I quite like it, but I've been using Niri and Sway more recently.
>>108531987> search Google from the desktop featureWow, features from windows. Does it also reply with irrelevant stuff and does not search local file system?
>>108532666It's literally all of the gay tranny shit I don't want in windows put into one place.
>>108531987You can shit on Cosmic for being unrefined or being too GNOMEy, but it's the only modern DE that doesn't have any hard dependencies on BasedstemD. For that reason alone, I hope it does well. Also, Cosmic isn't unique in being able to do online searches from the desktop. Cinnamon can do that as well.
I'm not vibing anymore, vibe sisters.

>>108532401You add "&udm=14" to remove ai resultsI thought this was common knowledge
>>108532389the point isnt to create a good search product, but rather to maximise engagement. that equates to higher ad exposure. search is being engineered to be "good ehough to 'work', but bad enough to make you keep using it over and over". the best way to sell ads is to get your attention, and the best way to get your attention when youre looking for something is to offer some semblance of a result, but to make you try multiple times to find it.google is an ad company; ed explained how search and ads used to be isolated products within google, but how the ads team usurped the search team and took their shit and bastardized it for the sake of number get bigger. everyone is a casualty of shareholder expectations because some mba at google figured that ads need to be in more places and the best way to do that was to make search worse.https://www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-killed-google/
>>108532097>its deliberate as a means of forcing ai search tool usage to boost internal metric to fluff shareholders. No, it began before AI. What actually happened is that they put a jeet in charge of google search, who happened to run google ads prior that. They also kicked out the previous head of Search. The idea is that if Search gives crap results, you'll do another search with different keywords. Which means more time spent on the page and more pageloads, which means you see more ads.Google is just a shareholders whore now.

I want to buy a 14.2" MacBook Pro, but I can't decide on the chip. My tasks are:1. Various daily tasks, such as web browsing, potentially some multitasking.2. Software development, webshit and some C/C++/Go/Rust.3. DAW4. Image editing, no more than one 5000x5000 (or less) image at a time.5. 3D modeling, 3D animation, 3D rendering (if it's animated in the first place, then it's no more than 5-10 minutes). The choice is between the base M5, the M5 Pro and the M5 Max chips. M5 Max is obviously the best, but I've heard bad things about battery life, thermal throttling, fan noise of the M5 Max chip in the 14" chassis, so I'm really unsure about it. M5 Pro is next best thing, but it has a significantly weaker GPU, the M5 Max's GPU is twice as powerful. I'm not considering the base M5 too much, but I've decided to include it anyway. In general it feels a little weird to me how I got upsold to the M5 Pro from the base M5, but I can't figure out at all whether I want to go to the M5 Max even though the increase in price is roughly the same. What do you suggest?

I'm going to use Clojure to build my web app.
>>108532450What makes Clojure better for this than say Common Lisp? I’m only curious, but for making simple websites, would it be worth learning Clojure for as opposed to just using Common Lisp if you didn’t already know Clojure? I’ve never done any web dev stuff so I’m asking out of real interest here.
>>108532574I'm sorry, maybe someone else can answer. You just reminded me about Common Lisp and I am wondering the same thing now.I was just comparing Schemes to Clojure and I chose Clojure due to the mature web ecosystem.
>>108532615lol I was wondering exactly the same thing a while ago since I saw an online business near me is notorious for price gouging its customers but has no competitors so I was thinking of starting a simple alternative, but I’m so unwilling to do JS that I was considering Clojure vs CL vs even Scheme myself
>>108532629Well, what attracts me to Clojure as well is that you can write Clojure on the backend and also Clojurescript on the Front end. So you may not have to use JS with Clojure.https://clojurescript.org/
