All new WD models (even Red Pluses for NAS/RAID and Purple that are listed as CMR) except for maybe some enterprise class drives are based on cheap SMR platforms such as Carmel, Venice and Apollo (they all have 2TB per platter density, "static" 190 module with T2 editor which works like a hybrid SMR zoned device that emulates a CMR behavior). Some models such as WD63PURZ also have TRIM support and 256mb cache which is a dead giveaway. Write/read graphs show a typical SMR behavior (several speed dips at random points). If you have WD models such as WD20/80EFPX or WD23/64PURZ then you should test them and comfirm it yourself.

If you remember WD once submarined SMR drives into Red NAS line and they're doing this again by selling inferior products as as a high quality. They're deceiving their customers again by cutting costs and I think it's important to spread the word and sue these greedy lying fuckers again.

if this is true can't someone test drives in a lab and sue them?

While I don't have the answer, you might be able to find out. Are any of your WD40EFPX drives loose? If so, are you able to check the date on the label?

If the Western Digital article is accurate, at first glance, your drives should be SMR since they were made after 2018. But if you wanna be thorough, check if the label has a color on it and if it has a product line name (ex: WD [color] [Pro/Plus] [inches]).

So the cat is out of the bag with the new Pop Os!, Rust tools.

I only ponder if it has a better benchmark against vanilla Gnome,Cinnamon. and also how much does this Cosmic (fork of gnome) against the real lightweight heavy champions like Xfce,LXDE.LXQt.

I have been told every year for the past 15 years about that particular one being the "Year of the desktop environment".

But I am no man of little faith, I think this might be the one (assuming Rust outran C which I highly doubt it).

You can install the old mint neutral grey themes by going back to mint-themes github of linux mint, going to the releases, going back to mint 21, taking the .deb inside the packages.tar.gz and installing it manually downgrading by doing
 sudo dpkg -i mint-themes_2.1.6_all.deb

THEN you have to go to the mint updater, update and when you see mint-themes you have to right click and select to ignore updates for future permanently.

Still linux mint XFCE is the only good version of linux mint, Nemo file manager on mint cinnamon is so horrible you cant even pay me to use it, it's that slow and bad. Anyways a new user shouldnt have to do any of this, the mint team shouldve left the old themes in there for people who want them. Fuck mint and fuck guhnome footfetish/ebussy.

This is why I hate /g/. Also they cry about things that doesn't make any sense like Linux being pro-LGBT while using Windows and macOS that are officially supporting LGBT and have millions more developers part of the LGBT. People crying about Librewolf while Brave is literally officially Google Chromium based LGBT browser. These anons don't care about LGBT (of course not when they choose the more pro-LGBT option every time).

Don't care about politics but I am interested in NixOS. Taking the infrastructure-as-code approach to the OS sounds like a pretty good idea, especially for VMs on my proxmox server.

He makes a good point though. Account deletion after 3 months of inactivity is stupid. Gmail gives you 2 years. Yahoo Mail gives you 6 months, but they don't delete your account, they just empty it -- this is really the better option, since it costs them $ to store your mail.

It doesn't matter if it's encrypted or not. The metadata is still valuable to the feds.
Same thing happens with Signal. They might not be able to collect the actual messages, but they can collect the data around the messages, and just use that for something else.

What type of trackball do you prefer? Finger? Thumb?

>>106755123
>The contact point of my fingers on the ball is the first joint from the top of the finger
mine as well, i think my finger is simply a lot less maneuverable than my thumb which i'm sure will improve with time. i often have to use both index + middle to do finely detailed movements. that might just be a sticky bearings issue though.
>>
>>106749094
Used a thumb trackball for a couple of years (Logi M575/MX Ergo) cause I had some wrist and thumb pain from a normal mouse, which was fine until I started experiencing too much strain on my thumb (surprise) so I got a Kensington Slimblade Pro finger trackball which solved that issue. Now I use both types and switch between them all the time and I don't have any issues anymore.
>>
>>106755416
>i often have to use both index + middle to do finely detailed movements.
You should be using both all the time anyway, a single finger on the ball is probably half of your discomfort.
>>
>>106754760
How is it like without the forward button? I assume the four are right, left, back, middle
>>106754661
Would've gone for the left one if it didn't require vendor software to remap the additional keys
>>
>>106754890
Personally, I find it vastly superior for scrolling, inferior for single point adjustment. Basically, you can't feel where the next click is, so when you put your finger on the touchpad, you don't know if you're between sensors or right on top of one, so the same amount of movement can cause 0, 1, or 2 scroll events.

The solution to this is a secondary scroll mode that simply requires you to hit multiple scroll events in a row to scroll, because it's way easier to scroll 3-6 or 6-9, but nobody has yet implemented this on any scrollpad to my knowledge. If I was less lazy, I'd write an AHK script for it so I could use scroll in FPS titles, as is I just use the number keys for weapon switching.

Scrollpads also have the advantage of quadrant mapping, most allow you to scroll left/right on one side, and up/down on the other. Mine includes 2 useless touch buttons at the top and bottom for on-mouse settings and turning the LED on and off, a trackball with a programmable scroll ring could be set up to easily give you 4-8 virtual buttons.

It's the best solution for trackball scroll, but barely anyone uses it, and nobody has implemented it properly. Second best is ball scroll, where you hold down a button or toggle a layer and the ball becomes a scroll input.

I'm EQing my freshly burned in TRN ST7. The ear rape isn't too bad, pretty standard for IEMs actually but the 2DD needs a chance to shine. It's starting to sound more like a proper V-shape rather than treblecannons. Kind of a shame but I can see how the tuning got too zealous with trying to impress with muh treble detail and catering to chinks and their shallow neotenous ear cunnies that love to be pierced. Best $20 I ever spent. White people need to season they earphones after all.
