I have finally decided to ditch windows for ubuntu. Did I make a mistake?
>>106752651To be fair, this info may be way out of date now, but it used to be that the default configuration of most software worked out of the box in Ubuntu and it often didn't in Debian. Also, this is still in date at least as of Debian 12 (maybe not 13), but it was almost impossible to patch the Debian official kernel and recompile it without serious fuckery. I had all kinds of problems merely trying to apply ACS patch to official kernel. In Ubuntu the guide actually works and it is easy.I highly recommend Pop!_OS except it's way out of date now... might as well wait for 24.04 final to come out. Beta is out currently.
Is ubuntu really that bad

What type of trackball do you prefer? Finger? Thumb? What trackball mouses do you recommend for people used to regular mouses & touchpads?
when will they make one with mmo buttons?
>>106749094i recently switched over to using a finger trackball (left) after having used a thumb trackball (right) for over 8 years. maybe i'm still just getting used to it, but i find the thumb way more comfortable still. the issue i have with the finger is that it ends up putting a lot of strain on the tendons in the back of my hand/wrist. try lifting your fingers off of your desk while keeping your wrist on the desk: it's that sort of feeling. i'm using a cushioned mousepad to try and elevate my wrist & keep it level with the rest of my hand which helps a lot.contrast that with the thumb trackball: you're essentially making the exact same shape with your hand as you would a typical mouse. i would personally recommend a thumb for that reason.

is it that big of an ask to want a t480 with 16gbs of ram and atleast 256gbs of storage under €230~am i ASKING too much why is it so hard
>>106750395> Just gone back from my t480 with a nice 1080p IPS screenThat better not be the default 250 nits version. Because all that you've believed in these past years will be shaken to its core.
Hi. Figured this would be a good place to ask, though it's technically not a thinkpad; I managed to score myself an old Lenovo B490 for fairly cheap. Having trouble finding info on how to get it to have some better parts though. Is there anything like the screen upgrades you'd see on a T-series for this? Processor ones too, if any of you know. Thanks in advance if anyone here knows. Kind of trying to make this into a little project to get better at stuff.
>>106750600how can I tell if I habe 250 nits
>>106754423If you have the default 1080p panel, it's almost always the 250 nits variety.
