He wants to jump from Java 6 to Java 21.
Shit's mad old.
There are no replacements for libraries.
And even if we crafted our own, "the architects" made such shit apis that they are shit to extend AND they leak the implementation, so you can't just replace the implementation behind the api, you have to go play whack a mole on the codebase.
Yet another case of Clean Code retards that should have kept it simple.
>>
>>106925769
oh, I see. not sure what you mean by "they leak the implementation", but that looks like a lot of unnecessary, retarded work
can you use LLMs at work? maybe that could help speed up things a bit. also, can you re-architect the whole thing?
good luck anon.

>not sure what you mean by "they leak the implementation"
You have a library called Apache POI, it does things with Excel.
To avoid importing it everywhere, you write a wrapper class ExcelWrapper. The methods it has are newPage, writeOnPage, saveFile, rather than apacheNewWorkbook, apacheWriteBytes, apacheSaveOutputStream.
You import ExcelWrapper from other places and you never see the Apache library, it is encapsulated.
Well, now you want to do writeOnPage(..., int extraFlags) to extend functionality. And rather than doing int extraFlags, they did writeOnPage(..., ApacheFlags extraFlags), so now you have to know about ApacheFlags and bring POI everywhere and make sure it's a POI version with valid ApacheFlags. You know what's behind the api, it leaked the implementation.
>can you use LLMs at work?
Yes, they use them.
>maybe that could help speed up things a bit
I have to clean their slop and it slows me.
>can you re-architect the whole thing?
No. It's a political thing. muh battle tested proven code reuse (that causes out of memory errors in production).

>have S25 Ultra
>Need to switch carriers due to [reasons]
>better carrier has fire sale on the S25 Edge, which I have been eyeing
Plan is to sell the Ultra, use the funds to buy out the remainder of the first carrier's device balance and get either the S25 Edge (since S26 Edge is cancelled or at least delayed), or the Pixel 10 Pro (shittier processor, screen and Desktop Mode, but good telephoto and better software) or iPhone Air (better processor and design, but no desktop mode, no telephoto nor ultrawide and iOS can feel limiting) but these latter two are more expensive.

Kinda leaning towards the iPhone Air at this point since I barely use S-pen (mostly annoying to me) and telephoto (although sometimes it's useful) and Android feels like it is becoming a walled garden so I figure I might as well go for Apple.

> "Overall, the models they are not there. And I feel like the industry. it's making too big of a jump and it's trying to pretend that this is amazing. And it's not—it's slop! And I think they are not coming to terms with it. And maybe they are trying to fundraise or something like that, I'm not sure what's going on."

It's great now. Claude is quite good anyway.

Usually I write a bunch of code then get Claude to write identical logic flatter and more idiomatically. It used to be worse than SmarterChild but it's good at doing this now. It's like a linter that's actually actively changing things. You have to force it to not change logic first though, don't forget that directive.

It's also good at finding logical errors. If you go through like 8 big functions and the result somewhere near the end is fucked, you save a LOT of time by copy pasting all your functions in the flow, the terminal output, and just hit enter. It usually comes back in seconds like "there's a subtle bug in..." etc.

Honestly that should be fine. 70ohms isn't low enough to trip up common amps. Might distort a little at the extreme high end, but the only practical scenario for that is movie explosions, so idek if distortion matters that much.

Drop it down to 15ohms at high power and some amps will go into protection mode or otherwise act weird.

I think my company is about to release a mobile app that communicates with a customer's public webserver/database (CRUD) with *zero* authentication. I'm very new to app development, but I KNOW this is going to be a problem if ignored, I'm just not sure how severe it truly is.

I've recently joined the only other person working on this app, and just discovered this insane issue that he hasn't addressed for *years* and doesn't think is an issue.

PII on thousands of people would be very easy to get if you know how to format the web requests that the app makes - just two parameters are all that's needed: specify that you want to search for someone, and provide their 'person ID', and you will get everything about the person. Getting a person's ID is trivial in the same way. On top of that, there are a dozen other actions you can perform with a person's ID that could definitely impact their life.

The .apk has been publicly available for a few months to anyone who manages to find where it's located.

Even worse, you don't need the mobile app to make the requests, either - make the request in a browser or use curl, and the customer's webserver would take it, as long as it's formatted correctly - no login or authentication required. From my understanding, figuring out to format this request would be trivial if you can decompile the app.

The people in charge want to release the app as a live beta test to at least one site & their webserver anyways in the interest of time, and to worry about authentication + session tokens in a future release. (????)

Internally, my ass is covered; I've done my due diligence. But how fucked do you think we are (or will be) if this app/webserver goes live? The level of panic between my colleagues seems to be split. Half aren't bothered by it, but the other half (myself included) are kinda freaking out.

I think the odds are low, but not zero. And if it *is* discovered, the consequences are unimaginable.

Cargo shorts, stupid guy

It's insane to me that people say that Internet ID is being pushed is a good thing, even though this is not protecting children, but actually going to make it worse for children to be harmed. I gave up on knowing that even if you report these fucking cunts, they always now pop up on X (Twitter) and even in YouTube with that YTTP shit. I'm getting full blackpilled on the entire world wide web, and people are worried about if people jack off to porn, as real pedos just go and find new ways to harm kids.

Do you all worry that this will be a dark day for kids? What do you all do to make sure your kid is safe? especially when the pedos literally go on social media stalk on kids who use their real names today on the GoyNet.

AI can't even do simple shit, and people want to use it as the parent. Using parental controls is soo easy, even a grandma can you! I thought people would be more tech savvy.

Voluntary ID serves absolutely zero purpose and so if you aren't the blackest gorilla nigger you can put two and two together to figure out that content will be locked behind an ID making it mandatory in some or any capacity. So an ID system will never fall under "it isn't mandatory".

This is a good point except that you get this by default with anyone who posts under a real traceable name to begin with. Trusting effectively no name accounts always comes with the normal list of caveats. The same people who post on Twitter or as j*urnalists in their respective papers that use their actual real name are the same people who would handily submit their ID to be verified while all the people who currently do not post on an account directly linked to themselves would not and so this still changes nothing. All you would do is add a gay little [double verified] badge next to the same people shilling jewslop for the past decade. Fundamentally what does adding an actual ID system give you?
