I bought a 34 inch ultra-wide which is amazing for gaming running a VM while tinkering and taking notes on the same screen. But, OBS is absolute ass on it.
>muh 16:9
I mean this is 2025, I get OBS is free by ultra wides are now more mainstream than before, so why hasn't anyone come with a solution for ultra wide recording? Now I can't get rid of that the fukkin 27 inch because that's what I use to avoid black bars.
So my BS is a bunch of monitors

The old fan is making a slight rattling noise on startup but it goes away after 5 min. It's spinning at 3000rpm to cool down Athlon x250 which gets hot very quickly during cpu spikes (it shuts itself down at 70C). I'd like to replace it but I can't find any 70mm fans. Is there any CPU fan model (with a heatsink or not) that would fit this old motherboard (released in 2009), if yes then which size should I choose?

a 212 probably wont fit in that case, he'll need a 92mm if hes spending that dough

>>107701862
if you're dead set on keeping it, see about buying a athlon x4 640 or a phenom 965, it will help with it being slow. beware an x6 1055/1090, not all prebuilts got bios updates to support them. and no, you can swap cpus without any trouble. you can use macrium reflect free edition to clone your drive in case it fails, it probably has a tonne of hours on it too

Do copyright laws need to adapt to digital media?

The ideal use of copyright is so someone who publishes something can profit from it as long as they hold the copyright and once they're no longer around or surrender their authority over it then anyone can use it without seeking permission or license.

But when it comes to software there is real value in being able to maintain software for use later with the evolution of technology, so someone or a company holding copyright over data can actually bring value long after the original publication since their ability to maintain it may rely on their ability to own it and profit from it.

Obviously this applies more than anything to video games since the code that the game runs on and the assets it rely on can be separated (people can reverse engineer the code and create a clean-room replication that behaves the same as the original game but that will never entitle them to also distribute their reengineered code with the necessary assets needed to recreate the entire game) but it can be applied across the entire spectrum of software in some fashion, due to things like being able to port stuff to different or newer platforms.

what held the copyright system together in practice was the US hegemony and its military

now that US hegemony is over and its military can't even beat a bunch of houthis it's only a matter of time before all this bullshit is over

can we go back to using RAM as an SSD?

Not really for most computers. Apple being the one exception, where you could set up a RAM drive from your system RAM and boot from it without any third party products or software.
>>
>>107703525
MacOS has RAM disk support built in and yeah, booting from RAM was as easy as copying your System folder to the RAM disk and doing a soft restart / boot.
AmigaOS has RAM disk by default, booting from that too was as easy as just copying Workbench to it and doing a soft restart / boot.
Atari ST's TOS had default RAM disk too, don't know about booting since TOS itself was already fully in ROM.

Many 8 and 16 bit micros, like your mentioned IIgs had RAM disk software, mostly for copying files from one disk to another with just one drive.
Even original PC and clones did, mostly too for that reason. It was specially common when hard drives weren't something that came with your PC as standard.
>>
>>107701462
How did you set it up, anon? I'm guessing it must be a Linux system?
>>
>>107705741
Why? Windows has a million dynamic RAM disk drivers/software, there's even one built into Windows but activated by default. Has been since like 30 years.

Does using CPU memory to boost an integrated GPU damage the PC in any way?

I got GTA4 on my Intel hd 4400 laptop and used some "command.txt" notepad trick to increase the available memory for graphics

The processor is i7-4600U. Can doing this damage the PC?

>so no innovation is ever allowed to happen
This was the funniest bait ITT. Like making batteries harder to replace has anything to do with innovation. Too bad people immediately understand that the battery tech itself can still improve even if the sizes are standardized. If people would be just a little bit dumber this would really hit the spot.
>>
>>107701910
The most innovation happens when there's heavy restrictions, when you get rid of any restrictions you just end up with absolutely fucking bloat and slop

I don't get it, why aren't people upgrading your RIG now if you know you'll need to replace it within the next 5 years? Even consoles are going up in price, steam machine is looking to be near $1k and PS5 Pro is $700 for console and prob another $150 for peripherals.

Generational leaps in graphics aren't really gonna happen anymore and the 5090/4090 might last for a decade.

The only thing that I have seen genAI do well with is making meme videos of public figures/current topics. Outside of that, what most people claim is "the future" is just regurgitation of popular thing, which is no different to how modern California treats creative endeavours.
I am personally just sick of doing PR reviews on code that does not take into consideration the rest of the existing codebase. I had to do it before AI, but now these monkeys are doing PR's on stupid code at break neck speed.
