It's so hard trying to find a decent desk. What I want is
>large surface area

>made of real wood and not ikea cardboard bullshit

Currently I'm using some old farmhouse-style side table but I'd like to get something longer.

smart idea, thanks. Also, how are your monitor arms mounted? Bored a hole through the desk? I wanted to use a swinging monitor arm on my desk, but the table I'm using has chamfered sides so those monitor arms with a vicegrip clamp can't work.

Dog-lovers base their whole case on these commonplace, servile, and plebeian qualities, and amusingly judge the intelligence of a pet by its degree of conformity to their own wishes.

Catlovers escape this delusion, repudiate the idea that cringing subservience and sidling companionship to man are supreme merits, and stand free to worship aristocratic independence, self-respect, and individual personality joined to extreme grace and beauty as typified by the cool, lithe, cynical, and unconquered lord of the housetops.

The dog barks and begs and tumbles to amuse you when you crack the whip. That pleases a meekness-loving peasant who relishes a stimulus to his sense of importance.

And just as inferior people prefer the inferior animal which scampers excitedly because somebody else wants something,

so do superior people respect the superior animal which lives its own life and knows that the puerile stick-throwings of alien bipeds are none of its business and beneath its notice.

Cat-lovers base their whole case on these commonplace, aloof, and affectatiously “aristocratic” qualities, and amusingly judge the worth of a pet by its degree of indifference to human feeling.
Dog-lovers escape this delusion, repudiate the idea that chilly self-absorption and ornamental detachment are supreme virtues, and stand free to admire loyal intelligence, emotional depth, and purposeful companionship joined to strength, beauty, and courage as typified by the alert, eager, steadfast guardian of hearth and road.
The cat slinks and sneers and withholds affection to inflate its own trivial sense of dignity. That pleases an ego-worshiping aesthete who mistakes emotional vacancy for superiority.
And just as shallow people prefer the shallow animal which affects boredom because it owes nothing to anyone else,
so do sound people respect the sound animal which shares life, work, and joy with man, understands cooperation rather than contempt, and knows that living well is better than merely standing apart and preening on a rooftop.

I've spent the last year or so playing with home servers as a hobby. It's only possible, or enjoyable, now bc i don't have to deal with asking anons or forum members how to do basic stuff, and even ChatGPT can create code chunks that I can cut paste and edit to purpose.
Experimenting with Claude code now to make more sophisticated software. It's funny watching it work, powered by deepseek.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong about Palantir.
The only dissidents who oppose it are tinfoil hats who believe governments would sooner turn against them instead of using it to their benefit, like hunting down notorious criminals and terrorists.

>How do other compiled languages link functions between files?
>Do they just make a global symbol table off the definitions?
It's saved with the object code in the module when you compile the source file. When another source file imports the module, it imports those functions and variables exported by that module. This is what C/C++ operating systems do too, except they only save the symbols and not the types. This is because DOS and UNIX were designed for assembly, which doesn't export type information, so they have hacks like name mangling and extra files for symbols. More advanced operating systems save the type information in the module too. Oberon has a really simple implementation of this.

How come C# isn't more popular when it's basically Java but better? Is it because people distrust a language maintained by Microsoft, or does the JVM have non-obvious but crucial advantages over the CLR?

What's the consensus on msbuild when it comes to C# development?
Usually I see people hating on it, although I'm not sure if that comes more from C++ devs working with it.
I had to get a little bit more in-depth with it recently, and I found it to be rather pleasant.
Modern msbuild is very flexible and expressive.and consise IMO.

I do hate how the most popular IDE for csharp (VS) basically hides all that flexibility from the average dev cause they wanna give people fucking GUIs to configure their builds, and solution files are an absolute disaster even with the recent modernization efforts.

But ignoring those is easy if you don't use VS and then you just have a good (and starndardized) build system.
It being standardized is also worth alot.

PNG supports HDR now.
Pretty cool, right?
26 replies and 3 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107840841
They need a way to specify the difference between bright and very bright, otherwise you end up with an image where everything is dark except for the sun.
>>
>>107834174
That's great, now we just need proper HDR support in Windows 13.
>>
>>107838737
HDR in screens =/= HDR mode in cameras
HDR in the context of most cameras is about taking an HDR image and "flattening" it where it cam be displayed on an SDR screen. Without this bright areas will be overexposed or dark areas underexposed.

"HDR" on displays and image formats is about preserving high dynamic range imagery to be displayed on an HDR screen.
