In the grand tapestry of Western civilizational development, the evolution of computational instruments represents a fundamental struggle between the expansive, specialized elite and the stagnant, institutionalized masses. To observe the rivalry between Texas Instruments and the Hewlett-Packard legacy is to witness a war between mandatory textbook compliance and unfiltered engineering dominance.

The practitioner who wields a DM41X, fortified with the CCD, SandMath, and 41Z modules, does not merely use a tool; they command a specialized scientific instrument. Herein lies the reality of why TI-virgins cannot occupy the same operational plane as the 41Chads:

The RPN "Barrier:" The TI-virgin is trapped within the "Infix" notation, a mess of nested menus and the chaotic struggle of parentheses. Conversely, the 41Chad operates within the disciplined hierarchy of RPN. While the virgin frantically checks if he closed the bracket on a sin function, the Chad hits the operator and watches the stack execute with cold certainty.

Institutional vs. Operational: TI maintains a "stranglehold" on the educational establishment, producing designs for 15-year-olds seeking the path of least resistance. Their builds are lightweight plastic with mushy buttons. The DM41X is a stainless steel and glass tank; one does not "tap" it, the 41Chad engages it.

The Library of Alexandria: The TI /v/irgin is limited to clunky TI-Basic scripts. The 41Chad has inherited forty years of professional M-Code. While the TI /v/irgin is Googling "how to do a Bessel function," the SandMath module has already calculated it using microcode forged for aerospace engineers.

Aesthetic Vitality: The TI-84 is the "beige minivan" of math... ubiquitous and mandated by the state. The DM41X is the vintage-inspired supercar. To reveal a 41-series instrument in a room of TI-virgins is to pull a fountain pen in a room of crayon users.

>When a library function just returns a piece of static data, I can easily write a function which manipulates that data.
when a library returns an object, the object can manipulate itself, you just need to call the right behavior

>When the library gives me a stateful object, what can I do?
just use it and not even care about its statefulness

>I'm fucked and have to understand how the machinery inside that object works if I want to extend it, and I have to add a whole new derived class that contributes to the interface bloat.
if you need something drastically different, why are you attempting to extend it in the first place?

Given the other names
int, byte and char

would you prefer the fundamental unsigned register-sized integral type to be named
word or size?
>>
>>107900248
If all those are supposed to be the primitive types of your language, why no use u8/uint8/uint8_t instead?

"size" is bad, idk why you'd want to use it for this meaning, although I'm a size_t afficionado myself
"word" is a word to good to be spoiled imo. I'd rather keep it free just in case I'm writing a program that should compile on both 32bit and 64bit architectures so I could use it for data types that can fit in both widths. In this case, "word" would be conditionally defined as uint32_t or uint64_t at compile time depending on compilation parameters.
>>
I'm working on studying MIT open course ware to get a web developer career any similar free learning materials or a self teaching road map? Maybe Udemy but similar?

>fundamental unsigned register-sized integral type
that should be int. (or uint. or nat)
byte should be 8 bits unsigned.
char shouldn't exist; there's no sense in a type representing a human readable character to be signed.

Actually, isn't byte named that because historically it was the original unsigned register-sized integral? Be that 4, 7 or 8 bits. Wasn't word adopted for 16 bit registers because byte had shifted meaning and cemented itself as 8 bits by that time?

How the fuck is a 1998 game capable of generating collisions for any terrain and it just works on super old hardware?
Meanwhile Godot's trimesh is so slow it cannot even run smoothly on modern hardware (and also broken since version 4), while anything other than trimesh will cause the player to literally fall through the stage?

Can someone explain this?

we just merged with a japanse location at work as we work on the same stuff (we're the bigger entity, they now work on our stuff instead of the opposite) and holy fucking it's exhausting, it's impossible to work with them, ask a question, they'll have to ask their entire fucking hierarchy to know if they're allowed to answer, they keep saying sorry on teams all the fucking time especially fi they don't answer under a few minutes, it's frustrating.
their mails keep getting flagged as spam as they use their magic runes even if they talk to us euromonkeys and there is always some unknown japanese names in CC like they keep proofs of everything they do or something.
for a few weeks before I get mad I had a young jap who was TERRIFIED to submit a PR that he sent me his code in a zip on teams so I can validate that it will be acccepted as a PR.
I've worked with many nationalities and it's the first time I have the feeling I'm working with literal children

Python stronger than c++? Pretty sure you learn more about the machine using c++ than python
>>
>>107898394
I think strong/weak typing refers to how much type discipline a language enforces.
In C/C++ you can reuse the memory of a variable any way you want, thus it's weakly typed.

I think beginners benefit from strong and statically typed languages
because running into type constraints makes you very aware of the type system.
Of course ultimately low-level languages offer more control and expose you to more knowledge about the inner workings of the machine, but those are advanced topics.

Wanting to learn something without a purpose is Reddit. Figure out what you actually want as an end goal and then pick the most important thing to learn for that goal. Most of the other things will be picked up over time.

Or pick a random one a start learning. If you really want to know all of them, then it'll take time and it doesn't matter where you start from.

Here is a game plan:
Learn C -> Make a program with C that interacts with Linux utils -> Host it on GitHub and learn basics of branches, PR, etc -> make a website for your app -> make a second website that has a server hosted on AWS and has some basic communication (meme Telegram basically) -> then look into system programming/design and leet code (don't waste that much time on it unless it tickles your autism)

Once you do all that you'll have a good idea of what you actually like / give a fuck about. Literally just 3 projects, and you can skip the 3rd if you hated making the website for #2

every time I travel, I curse having a brick-sized hobo laptop (currently l512), and then every time i settle down I'm thankful for that 14" screen. Ideally I'd like a lightweight laptop with a 14" screen but i don't have the budget for it.

anybody have experience actually working with a small as fuck screen/keyboard for long hours? is it going to fuck up my neck, eyes and will it be a hassle typing?
>>
>>107900115
i've accepted the larger screen pill, yes it sucks to haul around a 15" laptop for work or personal travel (2xThailand per year kek) but once I get there the laptop sits on hotel desk, so it's not that bad, especially with a roller bag and taxi/uber, the larger screen helps a ton with work and other productivity

Resident Titaniumfag here, I use it for 8 hours every day, though mostly just to read stuff. But I also carry it around every day on foot for ~1 hour so weight/size was most important factor.
Keyboard is fine, actually I like its snappy tactility more than mushy lenovo usb trackpoint keyboards.
I was wary of small screen but the resolution turned out just right and I would never downgrade to 1920x1080.

Is YaCy something worth looking into? Apparently it's a Peer2Peer search engine. Their site offers a demo hidden away, but I'm not sure what to make of it. I got the impression that it can be used as a personal search engine for one's own bookmarks as well (once indexed), but self-hosting with Docker and stuff like that seems like too much of a hassle.

Their site:
