>digital cameras are such a technological dead end that Kodak brought back Ektachrome and swung some deal with Alaris and is now offering more film direct to stills consumers and Pentax and Lomo are putting out film cameras again
I guess it shouldn't be a shocker when every "blockbuster" movie looks like ass now because it was shot on digital
>what should I buy
It's like guns 30+ years ago. There's enough stuff on the used market that I'd just go buy a nikon or a canon from the 80s or 90s. There are a bunch of cameras with hipster tax on them, like how kar98ks and garands were over priced compared to thirdie country guns, but generally anything that's mostly electronic like those 90s SLRs are free from hispter tax because hipsters generally want

no... just no.
I used to shoot 35mm and did so for almost 30 years. digital is light years better than any film. I will never go back. I sold all of my old film cameras.

This sounds like it's a huge commitment for you. Nigga there is no single best browser + even if there would be "THE BEST BROWSER", you should never use only 1 browser.
>daily driver browser
>login accounts browser
>private browser
You need at least 2. Yes, Brave is ""probably"" the best chromium based browser at the moment, fits perfectly fine in the daily drive category, because many websites and services just assume you are running chrome. For something more private you should go with a gecko based browser like FireFox or Librewolf.

pretty much there just to let you handle SIGSEGVs from stack overflows.

Frankly I don't know. In my eyes the reason that FOSS software is great it's because of it's community, and the main defining attribute of it is (among other things) that it cares.
If you ever seen a sperg around /g/ saying that "the moment we get the 'year of the linux desktop' it will oficially be over'" then you probably saw me.
In my eyes, companies fold and bend over for their userbase when there is a financial incentive of doing so, thus, any company that pisses off it's userbase enough will find itself (Eventually) bankrupt.
It's not an anomaly that Windows is shit nowdays, it's the direct result of an userbase that legitimately has no fucking interest on what's going on under the hood of their OS. That is "the average user", personally I don't want them to come over to this side, not only because they are a pain in the ass but also because the suits that found ways of nefariously making money through them will stalk them, eventually swooping inside.
>>
>>108511454
You're right for the most part, but you omit or don't know an important detail: financial incentives from the userbase don't matter when you have direct access to an infinite money printer or (((donations))) from parties with conflict of interest.
Windows is like that, and Linux is already becoming like that as well.
It has been shown over and over again that woke stuff doesn't make money, yet these companies/corporations keep throwing money at it. The Blackrock CEO himself admitted they were funding and artificially propping the whole thing.
>>
>>108509855
You could probably just do this with grub but you would have to write the config from scratch
You would have grub try to detect the rescue usb using whichever method like a specific uuid or partition name and then generate a menu entry for it, and then have a menu entry for the other usb, and because the default boot entry is usually the first entry it will automatically boot the recovery usb if the menu entry was created, otherwise will boot the other one.

You can have the disk unlocked on boot remotely through ssh by adding dropbear to your initramfs

What is a good mail provider nowadays?
Every single one asks for phone number, secondary e-mail address or does something retarded like you can't register to any online service without provided either of the two (Proton), some don't even use imap/pop and you can't use them with a client. It's hell.

>I don't expect any privacy (other than manually encrypting messages with pgp keys, but that's on the user's end) i just want something that doesn't ask for my phone or some alt e-mail address and can be used with an e-mail client compared to proton or tutanota who do their own thing that's incompatible with any e-mail client because they want to larp as private services.
Your only real options are joke emails like cock.li, pissmail and such.
>>
Depends on your use case, but Proton seems a pretty good setup overall; even better if you get a paid version (either your own domain or theirs etc).
>phone number, secondary email
these are optionss but I don't recall them being required. If you absolutely are worried about it, you can just use a Firefox Relay generated email mask as your backup, or if you're willing to chance it one of the tempmail/guerilla mail addresses for the backup. However, as I recall theere is an option for Proton to basically check the tiny out of the way box that says
>yes I realize that without the backup email or phone number if I lose my password etc..I realize I am truly fucked and Proton can't get it back for me this is not a drill it will be gone forever.
option. At first they just want to make sure you're not fucking things up and then crying about it after they warned you. Also, if you have a paid proton unlimited/pro account you get all the features of SimpleLogin mail masks and proxies too; its under ProtonPass features.

I'm looking for something that i might be able to use in a more professional context. While cock.li seems to have decent alt domains (no swear words), I would prefer that if somebody looks up my e-mail address to not get hit with sites about cocks and piss and things like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

>>108510997
I already have a Proton e-mail but as far as i heard you need to setup something like a bridge to be able to use it with your client. Another time waster. Also check this >>108510859. They wanted a secondary e-mail so they can allow me to see certain confirmation e-mails and that just pissed me the fuck off. Got me real mad. The Firefox Relay thing as a secondary address for signing up is a really interesting idea. Got to look it up. Thanks.
>>
>>108511070
>Bridge to use with a client
That's pretty much if you want full, E2EE including subjects like they use. You CAN simply turn on IMAP/POP3 on your account and export the OpenPGP keys, but like any other use that's just for the body. However, running the bridge in the background - a FOSS program : https://proton.me/mail/bridge - basically seamlessly sets this stuff up. If you plan to use Thunderbird, Outlook etc.. then its worthwhile and pretty easy with Proton using the Bridge, but you can also "manually" use the encryption keys if you want as mentioned though its not quite as smooth or cover as much as it were.

The secondary email can be gotten around as there's an option in your account (I don't recall if its the main global account page or the proton mail account options ) that you can turn that shit off but they basically don't want you to use the account to sign up to other shit and then complain if some day you lose access to your proton account and have no passwords, backups etc. Relay is a pretty solid if not as comprehensive as the ProtonPass/SimpleLogin featureset; by default you can use a handful of free email masks or an unlimited amount per site if you pay like $2/month. If you only need one to mask to your old email to give to proton, then you won't even need a paid one.

Now that's actually smart. Very good business decisions from microslop company, they clearly helped github become better and care more about customers and how many back up plans they have, ensuring stability of their business.

>does that mean I'll have to point to my home server as a DNS provider or something?

Yes

The quick rundown on dns in a network is that when clients connect to your router, your router will hand them the address of a dns server that they should use. (It's also common for routers to advertise themselves as the dns server, and just forward requests from there). Either way, your router will have a setting that lets you set a DNS server that machines on the network should use, and you'll point that at the custom DNS server you run and everything will use that.

Note that applications are capable of having their own dns settings, for example if you go in your browser settings its possible to set a dns server there instead of using the system dns, so just be aware of that if you end up troubleshooting why something isn't going through your dns.

I compiled an autohotkey script into a simple executable that opens the snipping tool and allows me to either select an area, the current window, or the whole screen. Then after I close the snipping tool(it is only used for the clipboard storage of the desired image), I run that image data through a script that calls imagemagick to apply the drop shadow, pngout to reduce filesize, and then rename the file.
It sits in my notification tray and I simply Ctrl+Printscreen if I wish to take a screenshot. You can see the blue happycat icon here: https://i.4cdn.org/g/1774240101983185.png
