Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet + the TrackPoint
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support

Which laptop should I buy if I want to use it for programming and gaming while running Linux?

Probably want something that's a bit more capable than the traditional ThinkPad meme at least (but not writing off modern ThinkPads), but also not a bulky Windows gaming PC that weights a ton and an heros itself with fan usage after running MapleStory or some shite
>>
>>107611532
You should probably be a bit more specific than that about what kind of gaming you're going to be doing. On a scale of candy crush to crysis in 2007, how graphically demanding are the games going to be?
>>107610887
Seems like a massive overpay to me

Might wanna consider something like a t14 gen 2 AMD laptop. They supposedly use very little power compared to their intel counterparts. From what I've read it has to be a zen 3 or newer though because that's when they get the p-state feature. Doubt anything will come even close to the ARM processors though.

You should always set the YouTube playback quality to 4K because even on 1080p display it looks much better because of the higher bitrate

Where is that legal? In most countries there are building codes that make doing retarded things like that illegal
>>
>>107612208
>It wouldn't be cause nobody would give a flying fuck about what the house circuit can actually handle
I understand your point but I guess that depends greatly on the country yeah obviously i wouldnt expect a place like albania do anything correctly
But in my home country the electric code is definitely followed in fact if an electrician deliberately skipped the code and pulled shit like that like put higher amp plugs in a circuit not designed to handle it, Im quite sure he would be criminally responsible for it so if accident happens not only would he be responsible for damages but if some serious accident happened a house burned or someone died he would probably be charged with criminal negligence and lose his electrician license
we are not niggers here and we don't do things like niggers we do stuff like construction correctly

you know what a heat pump is? you lose -200% (gain) of heating power with it. can you spin a compressor with gas?

Honestly I would never use macOS as a Linux replacement.
Why use a terminal on macOS? You don't even get repositories/secure storage for your terminal apps with brew/homebrew.

As like a GUI Linux/Windows replacement, yeah it's pretty good.
The time tracking feature leads to a reliant indicator to know how much time you put in working.

Also I'll wait until there's HDR support equivalent to Plasma 6. GNOME's is shit and I'm sure this desktop wants to be better than GNOME.
>>
>>107605363
I like it and daily drive it since beta, but they clearly rushed the stable release. It's still a beta quality software and will remain as such for about half a year. Through the beta they would fix couple bugs, and another would emerge due to some form of regression. I guess they had some internal reasons to push it up.
>>107607616
You can customize this. One panel or two panels. Or dock and panel. Or just one panel and no dock. And so is their positions on the screen. Internally, the dock is just a panel.
>>
>>107605363
it's buggy and the 1.0 came with new, more annoying bugs. I'll probably stop bothering to try it out until like 3.0 or 4.0.

tried it to get a linux kernel module to install it didn't work. Copilot, Grok, gpt and gemini weren't better. Solution was that the distro downloads src and obj dir you just had to copy a couple files from the obj dir over to src dir and then it works without problems. Thats not written down anywhere however so it never understood it. So far I have found only google's search to be somewhat helpful because it doesn't spam you with words.
