Weirdly true, I know Gentoo users who are scared of slackware and consider it to be harder
>>
>>107810259
>I know Gentoo users who are scared of slackware and consider it to be harder
nta but I used slackware for years. it is NOT harder than Gentoo, not even close. Slack's installation is harder than something like Fedora's automated install, but no where near as hard as something like Arch's manual install.
Using slack is just "run of the mill." What makes it "hard" - and I put that word in quotes for a reason - is its out of date / out of touch dependency management.
there is no package manager to tell you what dependencies are missing, so you have to painstakingly track them down.
which is really moronic in 2026. the slacker community acts like this some badge of honor or something when you waste 4 hours of day trying to get steam working.
also, it's poorly managed now. I mean really poorly managed.
it was one of the very first distros to hit the "mainstream" and back then it was pretty amazing (for its time). Now? it's a mess, it's a dead distro that hasn't realized it's dead yet.
Gentoo is a 100x harder than Slackware.
>>
>>107810404
In my case, its not that Ive used Slackware extensively, but Ive come to the very same conclusion based on the little Ive experienced and reading the complaints of the same people who claim its complicated to use
I imagine most people use "hard" as a synonym for "insufferable, annoying to use"
>>
>>107810490
>I imagine most people use "hard" as a synonym for "insufferable, annoying to use"
I think that hits the nail on the head. It is unnecessarily insufferable. They... well HE.... primarily Patrick Volkerding, could easily just include flatpak in the distro and set up, or even let the user direct it to flathub, but he/they won't even do that. And, try installing flatpak, it's a disaster.
The white beard fucks who swear by it, just don't understand that people don't have time for that shit these days. They'll tell you it's "learning Linux." No, no it's not. Installing Arch, installing LFS, installing Gentoo is how you LEARN Linux. Wasting time googling for what libraries this or that program needs is not learning Linux - it's merely wasting your time.
Slackware COULD be somewhat magical if the maintainer would pull his head out of his ass.

For this distro, it quite literally is just plug and play. Buy an SSD and install MX Linux. I don’t know why, but Linux Mint Xfce felt slow compared to MX Linux, and I have a Celeron processor for that computer. Maybe a systemd thing

Are the dangers revolving around blue light a myth, an urban legend? Perhaps a scam to get us to stare at blinding LEDs in their full exuberance rather than the softer, natural fitting hue of blue light? I’ve read that it may be harmful to your eyes and sleep but I feel like screens are already bad to begin with. Wouldn’t damping/being more selective to the rays you’re exposed to take the strain off of your eyes? The cold incandescent, subconscious flickers to my brain tell me that maybe they don’t want you know about this. Does anyone have any insight to the matter because I don’t trust much of any of the information out there.

Dimming your monitor has the same effect.
>>
>>107809097
Blue light is naturally found from sunlight, but you werent evolved to stare at it all day especially during the night time
>>
>>107809097
Night mode and dark mode reduces eye strain, which means more time to look at your phone or screen. It was never meant to be better for your sleep.
That's the reason why big tech and advertisers are pushing this so hard.
>>
>>107810171
nor were you evolved to stare at LEDs all day and pretend you code on 4chan, you fucking self taught, (doesn’t) know-it-all, faggot.

Android does not allow me to filter out blue light, so I use red glasses instead.

It really helps with melatonin production and you can see many health practitioners on YouTube who, when they make videos in the evening wear those red glasses

It really works. Melatonin is important for sleepband brain function

It's short term in that the current orders will 'only' max out supply worldwide for 2-3 years. But surely these tech companies won't order any more after that, and RAM makers will lower their prices for consumers.

For me the only dealbreaker for AMD would be the lack of gsync pulsar (very specific CRT tism), AI video / image gen is better on nvidia, and doubtful VR support (more AMD linux developers than nvidia).
I don't think you would care, but I should note that you can't install steam OS on a nvidia GPU due to some weird stuff.
It doesn't matter, and there is already an distro that mimicks steam OS.
But I wouldn't be surprised if there was something about steam OS that that's cool that gets revealed when the steam machine comes out, but maybe not, I dunno.
Nvidia is a bit more hostile towards linux, they could allow distros to use the proprietary driver in installers (like AMD), but nope (some license requirement or something, I remember some prebuilt company does have the installer but they sell prebuilts with nvidia GPU's which means they are probably paying some sort of royalty already, and laptops needs special drivers / closed source code stuff for battery power management).

I'm tired of these narcissistic old heads who are coming out and wondering why they have been laid off. Left my PC on for a bit, then came back to only the backlight of the monitor turned on. I wiggled the mouse and saw picrel. So far I've tried every single option just to get "error we/you can't do this".

Seems like I ultimately have to go with reinstalling Windows but is there some way I could get around it? Just don't want to have to delete a shitload of games from my main drive. Also normally I leave my PC on and this has never happened. Did my SSD shit itself or something?
>>
>>107809387
i'd say it's not likely that it was the SSD since you usually notice slowdowns and weird behavior before it dies, but if you believe that it's the case, then backup anything important before proceeding. You could use hiren's boot CD or a linux live distro to access your drive. Hiren's has crystal disk info in case you want to check the SMART data of your drive

If you can't even access Safe Mode, you could try repairing your install with a USB with the Windows iso.
>>
to repair windows what do you suggest?
in place repair upgrade or using the sfc and dism stuff?
>>
>>107809919
>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
into
>sfc /scannow
and then a restart. If the problem is still there after the restart then look into using an ISO of your edition to repair upgrade the install.
>>
>>107809387
you can try running recover/repair from an installation USB, anon. No crystal ball to tell us what went wrong, maybe you can get to a CMD prompt from the bootable USB and look at the SSD from there.

I got a 9 Pro XL as well. Its the worst android experience I've had to date. Not terrible mind you, as those before have been quite good. I've has six android phones before, and this is the first one that feels like a downgrade. To be fair, it's also a bit cheaper than the xperia 1 II I had before, but 4 years younger too.

The battery life is terrible, and there's a buch of all sort of little niggles, like randomly dropping wifi/bt, refusing to tether to my old laptop etc. I'm not too disappointed thoughl, 'cos I kinda knew what I was getting into, google is more of software company anyway. I mostly got it due to curiosity about vanilla android, and potentially testing graphene

Have been using the 8pro for almost two years and tend to agree. It's my first flagship as all my previous smartphones were entry level. This really does not feel like big step above those.
I suppose the camera is pretty good all things considered, but I'm of the opinion that you should not rely on a phone if you actually care about photography/videos that much because real cameras will always triumph over this fake processing shit.
Also yes the phone is just not durable at all. Dropped it on the floor while taking a shit and half the screen was completely dead, I couldn't even unlock it. Luckily it still had stock android so I could send it to the repair service free of charge, but I would've been so pissed if I had installed graphene.
Imo the a-series is justifiable for the price, but when it comes to flagships there is no reason to buy this other than graphene. I honestly stopped caring about privacy that much, I should've just gone with a sony.
