I may be late to the party on this but my alphoomer nephew just showed me a locked thread of the Scratch Director of Technology losing his cool at 10 year olds and and being moderated by his own moderation team due to his "impolite" remarks while arguing over TOS changes that trains AI on user projects and adds an AI assistant. I guess not all gen alphababies got oneshotted by LLMs. Where's his PR guy to tell him a grown man throwing redditisms like "ad hominem" and "false narrative" at users he acknowledges in the same thread are statistically 80% under the age of 12 comes across incredibly retarded and tactless?

#define __NR_sigaltstack        131

https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man2/sigaltstack.2.html

tl;dr:
manage an alternative signal stack

pretty much there just to let you handle SIGSEGVs from stack overflows.
i always read this syscall as "sigal stack", like the manpages are baby talking at me lol. for that reason, i rather like it, but it's got a pretty niche use case. have any of you anons ever had occasion to use it before?

Friend thinks he's some kind of genius which he's not, he's great at producing in-depth videos on tech/electrical stuff that you don't mind wasting 30-60 mins watching without it becoming boring or annoying.

Old YouTube gave people like him and others like Vertasium a platform to perfect their art but I fear YT has been so sterilised and censored that it'll no longer be the case.

Proprietary software needs to be vetted and standardized by organizations that are deregulated, monitored, and reputable to ensure the software is what it claims to be before its service is offered to anyone. You will have so much more security coming out of this simple method of validating code than to expose it all to the public eye. All of you should be more concerned about software IN GENERAL that exploits the consumer in various ways. Proprietary-or-not is simply not your dealbreaker justification for safety. But all of you idiots are so insanely focused on running open-sourced software that I am convinced all of you are psyopped to hell. I warned you faggots years ago and got called an idiot, and now Claude Mythos will be used by the NSA to rape all of you to the point any kind of extra code in open-sourced software is a synonym of open-backdoor. Linux never protected you, your internet footprint washing never protected you from databroker archives, they don't need ID verification to profile who you are, your data will always be pivotable away from its concrete structure, they don't even need to get in your fucking devices to understand your general activities wayward from your friends and relatives, from the flock nests, to the blacksky satellites above. Privacy against the government is fucking dead, it's been dead for 20 years, and this thread OP is less demoralizing than all of you autistic gentoo users convincing each other that you're protecting yourselves from the government. Good job creating your little negative spaces indicated for closer inspection! On the other hand, systemd is the best example of low-trust to the point of decadence. Do all of you need to experience the AI-induced Libson earthquake in order to convince you that your sanctimonious worship of open-source does not make a lick of a difference for you?

No, people just prefer it over the alternative, which usually is denoised to hell garbage with all detail obliterated. Also, film grain was harder to notice in the past, since display resolution was much lower (effectively, a low-pass filter).
>>
>>108503655
>The original resolution was 320x224 I think.
Well not shit then, you can't make something produced at 320x224 look good on any 1080p or 4K screen. Garbage in, garbage out.

Hi, I’m mainly a Mac user for work, and I only use Windows on my gaming PC at home.

My work involves low level software analysis and reverse engineering, and recently I’ve been doing a lot more work with Windows based tools. Transferring files from my M2 Mac to a crappy Dell Latitude using an external SSD is getting really annoying and time-consuming.

So I’m looking to pick up a ThinkPad as a dedicated Windows work machine. so I’m currently deciding between a T480 and a T14 Gen 2 (Intel).

From what I’ve seen, the T14 Gen 2 has Thunderbolt 4 and newer hardware, but the T480 is cheaper and more upgradeable.

For my use case (RE, tooling, moving large files, etc.), which one would you guys recommend? Any downsides I should be aware of?

I use the T14 gen 3 intel ver. and it's really solid.
cant speak to windows usage but the thunderbolt 4 port specifically is something that's saved me a fair amount of times when I need to quickly connect my laptop up to a display or device. If your phone also uses usbc too it really feels like a swiss army knife
the screen itself is average and could be better (very prone to glare but I use it at low brightness exclusively so it may vary) , and the speakers are noticeably terrible.

I compiled an autohotkey script into a simple executable that opens the snipping tool and allows me to either select an area, the current window, or the whole screen. Then after I close the snipping tool(it is only used for the clipboard storage of the desired image), I run that image data through a script that calls imagemagick to apply the drop shadow, pngout to reduce filesize, and then rename the file.
It sits in my notification tray and I simply Ctrl+Printscreen if I wish to take a screenshot. You can see the blue happycat icon here: https://i.4cdn.org/g/1774240101983185.png

Slackware would be much better if they included a dependcy manager. There's no reason you need play detective to find out what libs you need to run an app. Not in 2026.
>>
>>108508662
slackware has or has had many different tools. they are found on linuxquestions and github. there is no shortage of such tools.
tools that create ports-like trees, automatic dependency management which includes tools using different mechanisms to achieve that.

then you have a bunch of tools to print required libraries of binaries like 'ldd'
using this you can then tell slackpkg to search for packages containing those libraries.
2-liner scripts using xargs and awk help with this sort of thing.
its just a workflow you get used to.

the advantage of slackware is that it lets you do what you want and leaves it up to you if it makes sense.
>>
>>108508662
>>108509473
cont.
i just updated my slackware system, it got the package binaries, installed them, then i had to look over the configuration file changes and its done.
now i can compile a custom slightly customized kernel and its done.

my gentoo install is also updating a bunch of stuff namely about 150 packages, it takes a while but should work pretty much automatically and it doesn't handle the bootloader/kernel and focuses only on providing an alternative userland.

there is no point in running solely one distro. a slim and efficient distro config doesn't take much space and distrohopping is over. there is literally no point in distrohopping anymore.
you assign a master distro which handles bootloader/kernel and on top of it you put whatever other distro/distros.

slackware is excellent in providing a stable base for exactly that.
it also doubles as a fairly complete software repository
it also provides multiple kernel versions depending on what you need (stable/testing)
