>F-18L to the Canadians
iirc it's basically a de-navalized F/A-18A
but then later Canada bought the CF-18 which is pretty much an actual USN F/A-18A
interestingly just after the Iran revolution Canada tried to buy off IIAF's fleet of F-14s but after Canada's diplomats became involved in the smuggling of Americans out of Iran this deal was kaboshed
>>
>>65043148
why didn't McDD design a monkey model F-15 for export?
>>
>>65035182
c*bans got very active during the cold war, and tried to start many coups in south America
they landed once in the DR, and the majority of the landing party got wiped out by like a 15-ish man garrison
then the second attempt got VAMPIRE'D

The reason F-18L didn't happen is simple and its is same reason why F-17 didn't happen if that matters. Northrop. Their sales pitch was essentially we have better plane, we don't give a fuck about your economy or your capability to maintain aircraft by yourself. That is why Belgians, Danes, Dutch and Norwegians selected F-16 in 70's. That is why every single F/A-18 export client rather did business with McDonnell-Douglas instead of Northrop, they were very open to local assembly and component production. MDC managed to sell Hornets to Australia, Canada and Spain while Northrop was still trying to sell F-18L and Greeks selected F-16's and Mirage 2000's over it. We can conclude that Northrop preferred to sell just forward fuselage and tail of Hornets instead of most of the plane. Or company was ran by retards after Jack Northrop got too old. They licensed F-5 production to everyone and their mother.
>>65043213
F-18L wasn't monkey model, it just ditched naval stuff like wing folding mechanism and had lighter landing gear. Making it arguably superior product for almost all export clients over regular F/A-18 as it was substantially lighter aircraft. When it comes to acronym for McDonnell-Douglas, it correct one is MDC, for Mcdonnell Douglas Corporation.
>>
>>65043938
>picrel
I want the candy van version of that lmao

>correct one is MDC, for Mcdonnell Douglas Corporation
really? I've seen MDD in use in places
anyway, fine
so once again, why didn't MDC design a monkey model variant of the F-15?
>F-18L wasn't monkey model, it just ditched naval stuff like wing folding mechanism and had lighter landing gear. Making it arguably superior product for almost all export clients over regular F/A-18
yes, I know
I also know the F-18s were offered for export in lieu of the F-15 because at the time, F-18s were the monkey model American twin-jet relative to the F-15
I didn't say the F-18L was a monkey model relative to regular F-18

Consider the pervasiveness of data collection on firearms enthusiasts through government/corporate surveillance; any purchased component of something that is weaponizable is an automatic leak/red flag to the system.
Your precious hydraulic tubes are all being watched and recorded as to who is buying them.
This begs the question; are you a bad enough dude to forge your own barrels? How about homemade metallurgy and casting? Treatment of existing shapes to make them strong enough to withstand pistol pressure, let alone rifle pressure? If you can't source your own barrels in a way that doesn't arouse suspicion, then attempting avoiding surveillance through manufacturing your own weapons is impossible.
Until this major hurdle is addressed, those championing 3d printing of weapons as a meaningful tool of political resistance are totally unserious and are shilling you gadgets.
Also unaddressed is mass production and raw materials sourcing, enough to arm and supply a squad, let alone a platoon or battalion.
The real force is not merely the gun, but the logistics behind it that deliver and supply more ammunition to enable it to keep shooting.

>Until this major hurdle is addressed
It WAS addressed you fucking numpty.
ECM rifling and chamber cutting.
That's how the FGC-9 barrel is intended to be formed, using any pre-hardened steel tube.
https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2019/08/13/make-a-factory-quality-9mm-rifled-barrel-in-your-kitchen-using-salt-water-and-electricity-ecm/

This was solved in 2019.
Quote from link for you specifically:
>This project was named “ButWhatAbout: Barrels”, as a sort of middle finger to the brainlets who felt the need to ask “But what about the barrel? How are you printing that?”
>>
>>65042952
1045 steel has massive amounts of tensile and toughness for gun barrels, round stock is anywhere you want because its used in everything from axles to gears and impact tooling
It is so easy to heat treat even the dumbest gronk can do it with a fan forced charcoal pit fire, water trough and home oven
The only dumber thing is a metalwork lathe, these are everywhere, small-big as you want at dozens of price points for anyone's budget. You really don't have to be very smart to use a lathe and the only real sticking points are attention to detail, run speeds and measurements, for something like 1045 unhardened you can get away with cheap, easy to use HSS cutters.

Barrels are some of the easiest things to make considering all the other moving parts that go into a gun that do require a lot more precision and comparative strength
>>
>>65042962
This
Ammo purchases in my country are only possible if you have a gun ownership license card, and all your ammo purchases are marked on the card

First of all, only the Garibaldi is being converted to drone carrier, and Indonesia will not use TB3 drones. Second, the Cavour will start hosting some TB3s, but its main role will still be as an F35/Heli carrier. Second, it's TURKEY. Stop pushing that retarded name.

I meant arrogant in that they think they know better than everyone else even when they are doing obviously stupid things.

They think everyone is so stupid that we can't see the only thing they're interested in is themselves and their own defence which is why they tried to sell weapons (Mistral) to Russia for years and do still sell weapons to India, which instantly compromises any kind of security around operating parameters (look at the Scorpene leaks for example).

>>65043077
>TLDR; you're totally uninformed, or are misrepresenting the situation to make france look better, in either case you're wrong.
This. Highly suspect he's French, you can always tell by the "we're the best we never do anything wrong and you're stupid for pointing out that we did exactly that" attitude.

You can see it when they talk about "untrustworthy partners" whilst not even 10 years ago France was selling tech specs for Mistral + Scorpene to India and Russia lmao. Same way YJ-8 missiles came about because China didn't pay the high price France wanted for exocets (ergo France was willing to sell fucking communist China exocets). Same way the Harbin Z-9 is a copy of a Eurocopter Dauphin because the French in their infinite intelligence thought it was a good idea to give TDPs to the Chinese to build up their helicopter industry.

But yeah, the Germans are untrustworthy partners lmao.

Yup, France is demonstrably the worst European "ally" and you can directly show how France has propped up Russian and Chinese military technology for coming up on 50+ years, all while pretending they're the only ones who actually care about European defense.

>If it's stupid and it works
well it doesn't work, but what actually works is the reverse, which is only slightly less "stupid" if you think about it

for the past sixty years navies have been using the opposite method; instead of the ship grabbing the helicopter with a crane, the helicopter "grabs" the ship by throwing down a cable, which is then winched in.

Very few MAGA are in love with how Trump acts, but it's part of his brand, and a way for him to differentiate himself from they typical establishment politician who all repeat the same catechism from the Yale foreign policy school.

With regards to world hegemony, the Europeans tells this story that America is killing its soft power, and maybe that's true within the EU, but not true globally. Even if you look at what Europe does rather than what it says, they've never been more intertwined with the U.S. economically, technologically, and militarily (whether that's good or bad idk). As a MAGA-lite, I tend to view it more as a rededication of the world hegemony, but on a different basis. Trump views international law and multilateralism largely as constraints to actions he wants to take in the U.S. interest. I'm not sure I agree 100%, but I'm sympathetic to the idea that we need an overhaul because the old system was too sclerotic, and the U.S. was too passive an actor, especially in the face of moves made by our adversaries.
>>
>>65043850
The Europeans have the right not to help. They even have the right to deny us airbases. And as a lawyer I respect the application of different standards of review based on how the conflict arose. Your point is well taken, even if I disagree.

Still, I'd offer some advice. First you may be cutting with too fine. At 30,000 feet this feels a lot like Europe telling the U.S.to fuck off, but still do our bidding in Ukraine. With a President as mercurial as Trump, with as many levers to fuck up Europe as he as, this feels a bit like your leaders are engaging in feel-goodery than clear-eyed policy.

Peep the leftmost bar. During the most dynamic phase of the war, before it became a drone hell and Ukrainians had to start rounding up the retardednto keep their infantry stocked, the U.S. was giving more than Europe. Since America has 120 million fewer people. On a per capita basis the aid was greater by Americans. Despite our distance and Europe's proximity.

"And what of batteries of defensive guns on the ground?" asks the skeptic.
I answer thus: there is no way to accurately focus fire so as to actually strike the bomber, which presents a very small target indeed.
Even if a way could be devised for shells to burst merely upon close proximity to the target, no gun crew could calculate the trajectory rapidly enough to aim their piece.

For plinking, cheap is the key right? I'll use most anything* that's the cheapest at the moment but I have such rotten luck with most of the common stuff from the big brands. For me Aguila is by far and away the most reliable in pistols, even more so than CCI SV, but it is smoky and stinky and waxy. Rifles seem to care less, but for some reason pistols can be extremely finicky even with "high velocity" ammo. Some must use slow burning powder or something because I see INSANE velocity spreads from some ammo. In general it seems 40gr bulk ammo is more reliable than 36gr in pistols.

Accuracywise diminishing returns happens fast above CCI SV tier, it costs multiple times more per round for me to see accuracy increases, and my guns (or me) aren't good enough to see any improvement at all above Eley Club/SK Rifle/Wolf Match tier, but it's absolutely a per-gun thing. One will love something, one will hate the same ammo. You just have to try a bunch of match ammo in each gun to see what that specific gun groups best with, even different lot numbers can group differently in the same gun

*Don't like
Federal Champion blue box 36gr, worst of the worst
Winchester bulk or midgrade products

Is there any impact on accuracy shooting 2 3/4" rifled slugs from a 3" chamber?
>>
>>65042973
Good post, thanks Burt, 22 pistols are based
>>
>>65043083
Usually there's a small loss in accuracy and pattern quality firing shotshells from a longer chamber, however it's pretty small. I think you'll find much more variation between different brands of slug. Best thing to do when you want to shoot slugs is to buy bunch of different ones then test them out in your gun and see which perform the best for you.

>Pussya loses hundreds and hundreds of armored vehicles and personel plus aircraft in the first stages of the war
The war in Ukraine was the first war that saw the mass deployment of drones on an industrial scale that has proven to be the biggest disruption in terms of weapons technology this century so far. Combined with having the entirety of the western world pool ISR assets and give multiple times the Russian defense budget to Ukraine helps things a bit.

>US loses a few aircraft
The US has the most sophisticated and technologically advanced weapon systems on the planet with the biggest defense budget and are still getting got by cut rate missiles and drones. All of which calls into question the legitimacy of having a >$1T defense budget all while taking zero lessons learned from what has been happening in Ukraine and the rest of the world in terms of drone use.

>TOTAL SLOPPOSTING
This isn't what it's about. It's about the fact that this war has no real aim, is potentially going to collapse the global economy if it escalates and it is the fact that the Iranian government did not capitulate but instead remains and is continuing to resist despite the overwhelming disparity in combat power is what people are actually talking about.

What is the US supposed to do OP? Continue bombing? That hasn't worked and will only piss of the Iranians more and unify them more which is what it has been doing. Launch a ground invasion? The US is completely incapable of invading Iran which would require multiple field armies to have a real go and would end up killing tens of thousands to even hundreds of thousands of American soldiers in the process. Iran is not Iraq circa 2003 in any way. Drones are capable of striking staging areas. Missiles are still a threat. Iran still has a substantial anti-ship capability. These are the reasons why people think this war is extremely stupid and again, calls into question the $1T defense budget.
