Consider the pervasiveness of data collection on firearms enthusiasts through government/corporate surveillance; any purchased component of something that is weaponizable is an automatic leak/red flag to the system.Your precious hydraulic tubes are all being watched and recorded as to who is buying them. This begs the question; are you a bad enough dude to forge your own barrels? How about homemade metallurgy and casting? Treatment of existing shapes to make them strong enough to withstand pistol pressure, let alone rifle pressure? If you can't source your own barrels in a way that doesn't arouse suspicion, then attempting avoiding surveillance through manufacturing your own weapons is impossible.Until this major hurdle is addressed, those championing 3d printing of weapons as a meaningful tool of political resistance are totally unserious and are shilling you gadgets. Also unaddressed is mass production and raw materials sourcing, enough to arm and supply a squad, let alone a platoon or battalion. The real force is not merely the gun, but the logistics behind it that deliver and supply more ammunition to enable it to keep shooting.
>>65047113>I call bullshit. why would you even be drilling bolts on a lathe? the most common need to drill bolts is removing stuck ones.In a thread about making barrels, the non-machinist sticks out like a sore thumb...I have drilled many bolts on the lathe, usually for grease passages when using them as pins for oddball projects.
>>65048570>non-machinistidk the only time I ever drilled a bolt on my lathe was to make some non-marring screws because I didn't want to pay extra to buy them and they were cheap ones not grade 8
>>65046062>they need a process that compresses the material in some way, like autofrettage or forgingForging doesn't compress the material. That's a myth. When you machine a metallic part the features cut into it can crate spots where stresses are concentrated, and allow shear stresses to propagate along the grain. Forging aligns the grain flow with the shape of the part, which optimizes its strength. But it does not change density.
You can spin scenarios any way you want but in a collapse of society there will be a lot more materials for barrels than for 3d printers
>>65048649Is that a faceplate extension or an inside jaw chuck? I’m guessing those are imperial ~1/16 UNC threads to adjust it? They have a deep root.
>this isn't some early post war early 1950s design>it entered service in 1984
>>65047371In my part of Burgerstan, it really exploded in the 1980s and 1990s population wise. Phoenix has a huge volume of expats from the Balkans. I have had a semi interest in learning about the conflict there and it is not wholly dissimilar in some ways if you compare the various ethnic militia forces to the UDF/IRA/etc with the UK forces being equivalent to the Serbian military (which is to say, everyone is to blame to some degree for partisan actions, but only 1 faction had explicit state backing and government military forces occupying other places). Anyways, we have Serbs, Croatians, Bosnians, Slovenes, etc. And when they came over here from what I can tell, they all largely agreed to let the past be the past and build new lives here. I've been to friends houses in grade school and seen tattoos that years later doing research make it pretty clear a lot of these families have tons of connections to organized crime groups back over there. I worked security post-college briefly and did a birthday party for a Serbian (Or Croatian I forget) older man, it was straight up Godfather levels of suits with guns in holsters underneath. They flew out a famous female singer. It felt like a powder keg could go off just from all the people there but I believe even other ethnicities/rival people were all there at the club, drunk off their asses, and singing songs together. For all the still ongoing stuff over there and the ways the internet encourages bantz, it is legitimately beautiful that a lot who came over here to escape the violence have been able to put the past behind them. You can be on the right side politically/morally but still be in the wrong as far as your actions I believe. But that is a whole other can of worms as far as ethics and morality and what ends are justified with what means. Off topic but War by U2 is a 10/10 album that to me gets the closest to an 'it just sucks' message without glorifying either side.

Brutalism works to me when it isn't apartment blocks but more like big important durable buildings but then am I calling these brutalist just because it is steel reinforced concrete? The French Communist Party HQ back in the day had a really cool looking building, same for the Kyoto International Conference Center but I'm not sure what you'd call places like those.
something that never entered service
Just spent the last day finally finger fucking one of these. From an engineering perspective it is cracked.>creative, unique striker system due to space limitations. For instance, the disconnector is actuated by a cut in the slide>Managed to make it locked breech and have all of the standard safeties you'd expect from a striker fired gun>The size cannot be articulated until able you hold it in hand. It makes micro-9's like the 43x and shield plus feel like full sized steel frame wonder-9s when held side by side. It's smaller than a Glock 42 for fucks sake>full firing grip which still doesn't make any sense to my brain. They cut the slide height down so much that overall height is that of a two-finger gun, but you can build a full grip on it. Bore axis is as low as those $5k meme guns tier>these are honorable mentions but good sights, good slide serrations, good grip texture, adequate trigger and $350 new goes a long way.Big props to the design team. A pocket gun that simultaneously has 13 rounds of .380 and a full-sized grip is literally the most retardedly insane thing I can't emphasize that enough. If they could make one in .32 with like 13 rounds flush it would probably be the greatest firearm made this century.Unfortunately, it has Smith & Wesson levels of QC.

Do you need special munitions to take out power plants in a similar way to runway cratering and taking out hardened bridges? It seems like Russia and Ukraine just take the route of trying to hit critical components and grid connectors but we've seen that so long as you have access to components then you can quickly return to business after a strike.

I was thinking that the main issue for the A10 is that it puts pilots into far too much danger in the current SAM and Manpad enviroment CAS is no longer a viable tactic against anyone with any amount of modern air defenses. The platform however does still have an useful role even if it will likely suffer far higher combat losses than modern planes. So the logical solution would be to remove the cockpit and the expensive controls, replace it with a computer and a starlink / satellite connection so that the pilot can control it from an AC office. Without risking his life every time to some random dude with a strela or igla manpad.
>>65047182Why? The only reason to convert an A-10 into a drone would be to keep the GAU, everything else that it can do (i.e. carrying bombs and missiles) is done more effectively by smaller, cheaper, more flexible, and less retarded drones. The GAU isn't a tank killer OP, it's basically just a (vaguely) targeted cluster bomb/warcrimes dispenser. You'd get much better effects and return on your money by building a drone designed to carry Mavericks/JDAMs/APKWS as needed - maybe carrying pair of M2s for anti-drone use.
>>65047182The main issue for the A-10 is that it was a one trick pony and the GAU didn't really cut the mustard anymore. The only way to fix it imo is to cut out the big ass cannon and extra armor that weighs half of the plane, replace it with a big ass radar, and put more hard points and rocket pods on it. It can be a loitering drone hunter.
Wasn't there a mission in COD ghosts where you pilot drone A-10s?
>>65048076Tbh, it never really cut the mustard in the first place. The amount of vehicles that can be breached by 30x173 but not by a 20mm is pretty narrow. Which would be okay if they hadn't built the plane around this massive gun.As an a2g weapon, I think it was fundamentally flawed based on anecdotes of the Ju-87G. A revolver cannon or two would have been better for the A-10 imo.
>>65048076>replace it with a big ass radarThe A-10 is already underpowered in the engine department, a radar needs to pull energy from a generator connected to the turbine shaft. The APU is not gonna cut it.
