What was the absolute, most miserable environment to fight in during WW2?

Prisoners in Soviet custody faired far worse. Including Soviet citizens.
Out of ~3 million German POWs sent to Siberia a few thousand ever made it home.
When you consider this and the average russian's retardation the suicides we see make sense.

>.45 Auto
Was never a blackpowder cartridge at any stage, the case volume and lack of a rim wouldn't have been considered suitable for revolvers.
.45 Auto was devised as a way to MIMIC THE PERFORMANCE of the old M1887 Military Ball cartridge (which was basically a fusion of the .45 Colt and .45 Schofield so as to work in both S&W and Colt revolvers), BUT, this was ALWAYS as a smokeless and rimless cartridge for a future automatic pistol (which eventually was the 1911).

>9mm Luger
Never a blackpowder cartridge either, again because of case volume and lack of a rim. 9mm Luger was a necked up version of 7.65mm Luger, a bottlenecked pistol cartridge (something you didn't do in this way for a blackpowder pistol cartridge).
Further, 7.65mm Luger was essentially a shortened version of the 7.65mm Borchardt cartridge before it, also smokeless.

>.30-30 Winchester
This is an artifact of the name, Winchester never loaded this cartridge for blackpowder, and they in fact never called it .30-30 themselves, to them it was ".30 Winchester Center Fire" and it was competitors not wanting to write Winchester on their guns who started with the name .30-30 (which was distinct sounding from other established cartridges).

>.303 British
Actually DID start out as a blackpowder cartridge, so that's correct, though the plan was always to load it with a smokeless gunpowder eventually, they just wanted to work out their powder and the Lee Metford/Enfield rifles as best they could before loading it. You could call it a sort of transitional cartridge.

Look into the suppressor on the VSS/AS Val, it's literally washers welded to a set of rods at different angles shoved into a tube, pic related. Might give you more to work on for the logistics or design itself. That one specifically is integral, but the principle of the baffle design is the same.
It'd be effective to a point, but nowhere near a lot of the more modern designs, especially for the length needed and whatever cartridge you use (unless it's one designed for suppression like 9x39). Because those specific suppressors are also integral, you'd have a bit worse of performance than them unless you go integral as well, but you would have something to start to further work with if you wanted to otherwise.

>It'd be effective to a point, but nowhere near a lot of the more modern designs, especially for the length needed and whatever cartridge you use (unless it's one designed for suppression like 9x39).
You could still do a lot better for that kind of cartridge (and also a better cartridge), but the point of the VSS and 9x39mm wasn't to be perfect and optimal, rather that they could fill the basic requirements well enough while being really cheap and easy to make and tool up for, which they did, and thus why it is the way that it is.
>>
>>65044340
But considering that anon is looking to make a suppressor out of washers in his garage, taking that approach is more than enough as a starting point.
He's looking to make a can that works well enough that costs a fraction of a "professional" better-engineered can with materials available to him, emulating the VSS suppressor is a great starting point for that approach.

Thing with new vehicles and particularly military ones is that its always a tough job with new chassis, suspension, driveline, guns, armour and the 101 little bits of electrical doo-dads that need some fettling along the way. Its why the theft and copying of existing designs is so popular because its just that fucking hard to design and bring things into a working prototype stage- even before the real nightmare mode of production vehicles starts. Which in turn are usually a whole bunch of compromises, often undesirable ones but that's the cost of actually making the fucking thing
Armata never got off the fucking blocks of prototypes!
They spent a billion bucks throwing money at it and came away with a dozen of them and none were suitable enough because-
>Cost
Even before we could look at the major problems that kept it out of production and foreveraalone prototypes, the MOD said it was too expensive for their tastes as they just couldn't brain around why they can't make things like grandpa did in the USSR. They're poor, their workforce all left to work on oil fields or the service industry and died of old age.
You don't get a $4mil main battle tank in the 2020's

UAE Army
Most retarded troops of any Arab army I've dealt with.
Lots of US gear bought with oilmoney.
Worst tier of troops - lazy, unmotivared, its the lowest status job a citizen that they can do do get their government oildollars cheque, where in most other Arab countries the military is at least a mid level option.
Lower level retards than even parking-cops but huge egos that refused to do any actual work or learn anything.
The Sheikhs sent them to Yemen to please the Saudis - so many of them died in one ambush that for weeks after the national radio stations were only allowed to play arab funeral music.
And nothing of value was lost.

Why dont modern powers mass produce a mid effective and reliable not fancy manpad made entirely to bring down drones and cruise missiless.
Russia could mass produce a slightly better version than the strela which Is around 5k cost to manufacture and it could be used anywhere from anti drone to anti fpv to anti cruise missile.
Yet they dont seem to be doing it for some reason.
If the bases attacked by spider web had a few manpads and guys with shootguns trying to slow down the drones instead of throwing rocks at them the outcome would have been very different yet they didnt for some reason.
Also we ve seen ukranian succesfuly intercept slow low Flying cruise missiless with stingers, they even minched russian helos and some were used on their jets.
You could even just strap them to a vehicle or helicopter and link them to a thermal camera to aquire the target and just let them do their work afterwards

MANPADS work at a distance of a few hundred yards to a few miles. Most FPV drones won't be noticed until there within a few hundred feet of a soldier. By then they're well-within the effective engagement range.

The future is probably something like a small bird-sized drone that can be worn on soldier's helmet or sholder that will kamikaze into an incoming's rotor to knock it off course. My guess is you could use a passive sonic detection coupled with AI as a simple means of guidance.

>I assume you can just set them up on the ground if you cant find the right trees?
I'm embarrassed to say I haven't done that in terms of actually sleeping in it on the ground for a night. But I think the issue with the main tent might be the floor material isn't ground rated. The structure is pretty normal, just two thin aluminum poles so that's fine. I know though that they sell a "ground conversion kit", guy at the store mentioned it, basically a heavy duty ground sheet and some pegs. I don't remember how much they are but it wasn't a lot, <10% the cost of the actual tent, and wasn't heavy either. I think one could just jury rig their own frankly. But I figured if I was going somewhere I wasn't sure of I'd just use a normal tent so I didn't get it, sorry anon can't tell you how well it works.

And they are not pizza, but precursors that appeared in many different cultures, but in Italy that, then became pizza.
Americans tend to always confuse themselves and merge completely different things together, this bought forth things like classifying pizza as a salad and the current gender identity crisis where knowing which bathroom to use has become a US national issue.
Is a corn cob on a piece of bread an hot dog? Is an ham sandwich an burger? Is a short barreled rifle a pistol? Wait no, fuck to you americans it actually is a pistol. I really can't come up with a good example that would work with you americans, your entire society is so fluid that it would make (((Bauman))) get a woody.
>>65049467
El Muttoido, I'm not talking about a flat bread with toppings, like those that were already popular in Roman times in the italian peninsula, I'm talking about actual pizzas, with a tomato base, cheese, vegetables and what have you, which the earliest records are from around the 1550s when tomatoes started being introduced in Italy thanks to Spanish traders from their first colonies. From there it took almost 200 years before the British colonies of which you descend from were formed in the New World.
