I've been reading new Abercrombie, Devils (2025), after not following his latest prose for a while. It's pretty much a great example of literary bloat, I don't know if he gets paid by the word, but it's a 700 pager that feels like it can be crammed in 300.

This based on me being 100 pages deep and witnessing endless back and forth between two character arcs, and thanks to Abercrombie's desire to fill up the page, both are the same person, and so is everyone else. The only difference between them is their physique and sex. But for fuck's sake, Abercrombie can't stop with whimsical, Critical Role tier character dialogue, where everyone has a quip and each exchange is punctuated by dumb fucking question since everyone is being cute and not giving proper information.

Sam, Merry, and Pippin call Frodo "the Lord of the Rings" early on in the story and Gandalf chides them saying "there is only one Lord of the Rings." That's a direct line from the book.

What's the reason for books loved by Redditors (like Aziz Anzari - Modern Love and The Martian by Andy Weir) and posts on Reddit using the style of language that they do? For example, the often use of the word "fuckery" to cover details of ideas they don't understand. "Financial fuckery" is a big one for the redditor. What does the "fuckery" mean, exactly? The redditor doesn't know.
Also combining insults like "fuckwit rightoid" where the anger of the poster is palpable. "That guy? He's a fascist shitlord ballsack who is up to racist fuckery and nazi dickery." Why the fuck do these people write this way?

Its an emergent phenomenon. People of similar minds interested in similar things get funneled into internet spaces controlled by, to a large degree, anonymous mods and largely unaccountable algorithms which exert influence on how people group together and share information based on what make money and keeps them in power and positions of prestige.
these spaces become echo chambers for positions which increasingly diverge from the precious societal norm since the internet is primarily driven by money, popularity, and status. So shifting what is acceptable to talk about towards the strange and extreme is what happens since it gets attention and getting attention gets both money and popularity and the internet. and if that position is normalized it also provided status.

and so you see the phenomenon of increasing divergence from the norm on all fields and sub-domains of human life as a product of the self interest of (almost) everyone involved.

I read some of the "anti-racist" biographies at the public library, and the level of hatred these brown women have towards white girls is insane. There was one with a black girl at some anti-racist seminar just demeaning and making fun of this white woman doing her best to apologize for her implicit biases and privilege.

With all these books about race being published everywhere, all these experiences as a diaspora. When is the actual unspoken truth going to get published? the burning resentment and hatred that non-white women have towards white women? Or is that too much for the publishing industry?

Same here. I love our women, I love our people. Only a white woman can have a white child, and we're humanity's finest. They wouldn't be trying to deny us an identity if they didn't want to be a part of us.

I happen to like white girls. Why do you think I took so much offense to the contents of these books? Most white girls I meet try to take the general feeling of all people into account in the environments they're in. I did charity work for DOC, it was only white girls, and I mean -ONLY- white girls that cared for animals. Not a fucking single brown face there setting possum traps to save the native birds. I've seen hundreds of people at these charities and not a single brown face. I've never seen a brown girl care for an animal, I've never seen a brown man at an environmentalist preservation charity either. I'm a low empathy chud who gets dragged along by my family, but I know what I am and don't deny it.

Non-white girls could be pretty. But take a fucking look at how they treat animals in their third world shitholes. How they whip and beat donkeys all across north africa. Imagine having a child with one and that child inheriting that mentality. Our people are the only ones that care and love about nature and the world. A brown girl could be pretty, but she'd still torture a dog to death if it gave her some advantage.

I'm an apologetic white supremacist because I know my blood is the only blood capable of love. And yes I'm violent psycho myself, but I see what I see in my own people, and love my people for it. Even if they have too much empathy and idealism to be assertive and wish to preserve the most beautiful and caring race that ever existed, I will.
>>
>>24784221
>I happen to like white girls.
You say this as if it was something rare, when pinkos by a wide margin are only interested in other pinkos
>it was only white girls, and I mean -ONLY- white girls that cared for animals.
How many of it is done as a way to gain good boy points though
>How they whip and beat donkeys all across north africa.
True, but you have to admit white pepo can love animals way too much, the whole furbaby stuff for example. I remember I read some ancient guy talking about the romans if I'm remembering correctly, and how their women would not have children and instead would raise and pamper monkeys and other animals as their offspring. Sounds familiar?
>>
>>24784276
No actually, I don't think they do it just to their advantage. I think the only reason you've gotten away with slandering them as Karens for so long is because they're genuinely nice people, who take the shit you say at face value. It's a way for you people to virtue signal too, go along and care for animals. If you can, that turkroach Hasan Piker couldn't even resist shock collaring and abusing his dog on stream, I doubt you'd last a week before breaking the wings of a small bird. The single claw of a dog is worth the life of 1,000 people who would abuse animals. The English in particular take great offense to animal abuse.

You don't think I'm close to non-whites too? We live in demographic replacement countries after all, and we're forced into the same environments. Do you really think a brown girl hasn't vented to me about how Steve Jobs and Bill Gates didn't actually come from poor families and had nepotism? Dumping all this information on me in a longpost, whining about how social mobility is a myth? You think white people don't see Indians worship tech billionaires like gods? You think I haven't said "don't people in your country get married younger?" (based on a statistical fact) and the person in question just dismissively going "Oh that's just for poor people". Never heard a white person shrug off and say that's for the poors. I might online, but even I wouldn't IRL.

You want to prove me wrong? Work to take these anti-white books off the library bookshelves, speak up about how white people don't deserve this treatment.

>Saying this was translated by Joe Smith and not 'written by,' is like when Penguin put out per Moz's request, his "Autobiography" under 'classics;' per his demand. — It's cheeky.
God is "cheeky" hiding his glorious wisdom in such an obscure place, and sealing it behind the word of man's saying it has to be from the Americas, only to be revealing itself to be from Africa in these last days; it is so good of the Lord to show his hand to us.

It is a classic in its own right; you have to read it to see it for its richness, that it could not have been made in modern times in the method of making a novel, even if inspired; it has to be from the ancient times it claims, even if compiled and redacted.

>What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

IIRC the legend goes that the term originates from theater. Anglophone theater enthusiasts invited Russian directors to give talks. One of them was asked how they go about adapting a script into the physical reality of the stage or something along those lines. The director responded that they go about it "bit by bit." The Russian accent made it sound like "beat by beat."

That's why you use an ereader that doesn't handle anything else and not something like a boox with android on it. Exiting to the home menu isn't that different from keeping your fingers between the book and looking at the cover for a few seconds, something I do with physical books as well.
At least, that's how I rationalise it.

Yeah dude, I should totally rather ignore all the tangible arguments in favor of e-books people with brains make, than the few materially obsessed tards who can barely articulate an English sentence.
>>
>>24783918
Yes but you're only realistically reading a few books at a time and if none of those can hold your attention even slightly maybe you shouldn't be reading at that moment.

An informative pic for /lit/
Plato advocated for more centralized system and unitary ideals; Aristotle advocated for political pluralism and a partnership of clans (which is the basis for a partnership of states in decentralized models).
>>
>>24783826
Maximum occupancy in Plato's system, under ideal conditions of civic unity, was 5040 people.
>>
>>24783826
Western understandings of decentralization comes from the institutional weakness and pluralism of the Dark and Middle Ages. Something which emerged organically, out of folk cultures rooted in the earth and context, not constructed by some philosophers from a different civilization from a thousand years ago that westerners didn’t even know about until we got their texts them from the Byzantines and Muslims. And when we finally got ahold of their works it was mostly academic monks that cared about them and whoever was in the universities of the high Middle Ages for a while until it spread outside of those confines during the early modern era. It wasn’t even until basically the last hundred years that a lay person in the west could read the works of these two.

I wouldn't opposed Plato and Aristotle as opposites; they have much in common.

Neither would support a Rawlsian or Nozickian liberal democracy. I think it's the nature/supernature divide in the early modern period that led us on that path. With that, all spiritual goods become an isolated sector governed by grace (particularly in Protestantism, but in the post-Reformation Roman Church as well). Election comes to be understood individually. The state then is not there to fulfill the good (telos) of man, the rational animal, but to help manage the allocation of finite goods that diminish when shared (as opposed to spiritual goods that increase when shared). Ethics becomes framed in terms of the desires/needs of the individual as over and against the community, rather than the pursuit of "becoming like onto God," which assumes that the Good is always diffusive and that virtue communicates itself outward by nature (think Plotinus taking in orphans).

That's what gets you a state whose primary purpose is enabling the individual to be an individual, either by being a minimalist referee in the marketplace (conservative liberalism) or else by enabling the individual to become more individual and sever all links with custom and community they do not assent to (progressive liberalism).

Both Plato and Aristotle, by contrast, ground their politics in a strong notion of man's telos and the polis as fulfilling that telos. That means there *isn't* an irresolavable pluralism. When Aristotle celebrates the "commonwealth" he is celebrating the self-determining, self-governing coalescence of the citizenry around a common good, not a pluralism where individuals chase their own privatized conception of the good in such a way as to support each other's individual pursuits (or at least avoid conflict). Recall that for Aristotle democracy is the most degenerate form of government, rule by the many for the good of the many. The modern ideal, even Fukuyama's moderated version, is still his degenerate "rule of many for the selfish pursuits of each," as opposed to the ideal "rule of the many for the good of the one (the polis itself)."
