>What is Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

Not resentment, there's no sense of unfairness here, just stating a fact. Appealing to nature is also a classic, so well done. There's a reason the higher the intelligence, the fewer children people tend to have, often none at all.

A CONVERSATION BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH

Life
Silence is golden, my friend. Silence is eternity itself. It will be forevermore while cheap words drip into nature’s gully. So put your words with your other trifles and drink up the golden cup of the Olympians.

Death
True, silence is golden. Does your silver tongue lap up the golden nectar all the same, by some alchemy?

Life
Cutting words. Like a serrated blade to meat. I will not bite my tongue! Would you throw yourself upon your own sword with Jocasta’s shame or slay a Caesar? A trifling matter, really. The meat between the teeth is my concern . My silver tongue picks it carefully, as it does with words. Mince not your words or you’ll shriek beneath the mallet.

We are simultaneously a slutty, hyper-sexualized culture. One that doesn’t have as much sex because a large portion of people are just turning to ez porn instead of dealing with the harsh landscape of modern dating and the labor that comes with any relationship. So much easier to tug it out to porn than deal with women who make a fuss about meeting out for a drink before you’ve given your entire life story and revealed all mysteries.

Oll Korrect, but the influence of style and formatting extends far beyond pottery. My aunt is the most hideous soul incarnate in this modern day. Yet she managed to marry herself to a comedically small, comedically rich crypto-jew, and therefore proceeded to enlist an platoon of the finest plastic surgeons, dermatologists, tailors, and hairdressers, and has formatted herself into a very attractive stanza, and everyone (except yours truly) has completely forgotten what a horrible little worm she actually is. It's all just style over substance. It always was, but it's even moreso now. The solution is mandatory blindness.

>the distinction between poetry and song is a fairly modern concept.
(I)
>Epic poetry and Tragedy, Comedy also and Dithyrambic: poetry, and the music of the flute and of the lyre in most of their forms, are all in their general conception modes of imitation. They differ, however, from one: another in three respects,—the medium, the objects, the manner or mode of imitation, being in each case distinct.

>For as there are persons who, by conscious art or mere habit, imitate and represent various objects through the medium of colour and form, or again by the voice; so in the arts above mentioned, taken as a whole, the imitation is produced by rhythm, language, or 'harmony,' either singly or combined.

>Thus in the music of the flute and of the lyre, 'harmony' and rhythm alone are employed; also in other arts, such as that of the shepherd's pipe, which are essentially similar to these. In dancing, rhythm alone is used without 'harmony'; for even dancing imitates character, emotion, and action, by rhythmical movement.
(VI)
>Tragedy, then, is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude; in language embellished with each kind of artistic ornament, the several kinds being found in separate parts of the play; in the form of action, not of narrative; through pity and fear effecting the proper purgation of these emotions. By 'language embellished,' I mean language into which rhythm, 'harmony,' and song enter. By 'the several kinds in separate parts,' I mean, that some parts are rendered through the medium of verse alone, others again with the aid of song.

>Now as tragic imitation implies persons acting, it necessarily follows, in the first place, that Spectacular equipment will be a part of Tragedy. Next, Song and Diction, for these are the medium of imitation. By 'Diction' I mean the mere metrical arrangement of the words: as for 'Song,' it is a term whose sense every one understands.

It’s important to be comfortable being alone. This modern phenomenon of constant connection (texting, calling, social media) isn’t the norm. People would say their goodbyes and be separated for months, years, and it would be normal.

But expectations have changed. I wonder if you would feel the same way, if you realized how your behavior affects them. Could you be ok being alone, if you knew no one else was waiting for you? That is the case of many anons here.

Sorcery, Wizardry, Witchcraft, Psionics, and General Magic and Powers Edition

FAQ:
>What is worldbuilding?
Worldbuilding is the process of creating entire fictional worlds from scratch, all while considering the logistics of these worlds to make them as believable as possible. Worldbuilding asks questions about the setting of a world, and then answers them, often in great detail. Most people use it as a means of creating a setting or the scenery for a story.
>"Isn't there a Worldbuilding general in >>>/tg/ already?"
Yes, there is. However, that general is focused on the creation of fictional worlds for the intended purpose of playing TTRPG campaigns. Here you can discuss worldbuilding projects that are not meant to be used for a roleplaying setting, but for novels, videogames, or any other kind of creative project.
>"Can I discuss the setting of my campaign here, though?"
If you want to, but it would probably be better to discuss it on >>>/tg/ . We don't allow the discussion of TTRPG mechanics, however. If you want to discuss stats or which D&D edition is best, this is not the place.
>"Can I talk about an existing fictional setting that is not mine?"
Yes, of course you can!
>"Does worldbuilding need to be about fantasy and elves?"
Worldbuilding, as already stated above, and contrary to what many believe, does not inherently imply blatantly copying Tolkien. In fact, there are many science-fiction setting out there, and even entire alternative history settings which do not possess supernatural elements at all. Any kind of science fiction book has an implied setting at least, which involves a certain degree of worldbuilding put into it.

Sure, but you don't have to make it a measurable science. Mysterious magic is also as viable as mechanics. Don't get me wrong I also enjoy systemized magic, and usually its the mix of both that hits that sweet spot of a good magic system.

It's a really exciting process of development that I'd welcome you to start yourself.

The thesis is much more compelling when argued in its abstract form than the way that McGowan actually presents it in the novel, which indeed comes off as a schizo rant written in a dimly lit basement somewhere.

Like we know that the CIA organized underground paramilitary cells in Europe that wound up becoming violent criminal sex trafficking syndicates, and that the US created a systematized program of serial killing in the Vietnam war that was later used in LATAM, but IIRC instead of convincingly tying these threads together he gets caught up in a billion tangent and the lurid details of serial killings and loses focus on his thesis. IMO people who advocate the book online usually offer a more compelling argument than McGowan himself in his own book.

A historical conspiracy theory recommendation:

>Early modern witchcraft trials uncovered remnants of a pagan neolithic fertility religion whose rituals and practices were fairly consistent across Central Europe from northern Italy to the Balkans. Its major belief is that some members of the community are marked from birth with a caul as spirit walkers and must enter a shamanistic spiritual battle in their dreams against "demons" to protect their crops several times a year. The Germanic myth of the "wild hunt" is likely related to this religion.

i fucking hate this playplay xitterspeak man. people spend three hours writing shit like this, tweaking the precise misplacement of capital letter and comma to ensure all thing it's off-the-cuff. this macho casualism. this passive aggressive irony. it's the twenty-nothing who intentionally places himself at the most conspicuous corner of the most trendy brunch cafe, wearing an outfit that replicates a gentrified notion of homelessness, reading a book they fake-tattered with water and dish cloths to give the illusion of having been read, wearing glasses and pretending to not be interested in gazes, this performative blasè, which is anything but, rather a heresy towards true slothdom, i hate it.

I like this. I’m going to steal this. Hehehe.

I'm like halfway through neuromancer at this point and this book fucking sucks dick. I've noticed something with these alleged classic books that started new genres, they all suck. Lord of the Rings is boring as hell. Neuromancer sucks dick. Starship Troopers was literally just Heinlein shitting out half assed political theories (which he completely contradicts in Stranger in a Strange Land, a gay hippie fantasy). All of these so called classics are garbage. And no, it's not just because I don't like the genres they created or whatever. There's plenty of sci-fi and fantasy books I do like. But most of the classics seem pretty bad.

Six bladerunners? Aren't there only two? The difference is that those movies don't follow the exact events of the books like LotR and The Hobbit do.
I've never seen any of the Dune movies, so maybe the books would be boring to me if I had.
>seven video games for the latter, and more of it all in the works. LoTR has one live action adaptation and one cartoon
Now you're just being disingenuous. Are you really pretending not to know about the many LotR games out there? Do I need to list them?
>>
>>24696247
Also I wasn't talking about neuromancer when I made that post. Neuromancer is simply shit, it has nothing to do with derivatives or adaptations. That would have been a disingenuous argument too since there's an entire subculture called cyberpunk, a game by the same name that references things from the book, ect
