Friday night is the best time for run a TTRPG.

Your family and non-gamer friends expect you to be available on Saturdays. On Sunday-Thursday everyone is dreading work the next day.

Furthermore, Friday games also filter out Magic players which is a win.

>Friday night is the best time for run a TTRPG.
Ask me how I know you never run anything with adults with jobs
Wednesday is the optimal day for gaming, because everyone is free and nobody is expected anywhere. Thursday is a second best.
Monday sucks, because it's regular overtime day. Tuesday usually is picking slack from Monday. The entire weekend is busy work and wildly conflicting timetables (and nobody sane is going to sacrifice family time for games, unless it's a family thing).
So you are left with Wednesday and Thursday, of which Wednesday is the more optimal, since people tend to get delegations Thursday-Friday.

You think it's bad in DnD? Consider that The Witcher has bards, both the Polish and the American one. And they just sing songs, no magical powers or anything.

That's basically the "bard" in the recent D&D movie, he has a lute and sometimes hits people with it.

Can a martial based character be the BBEG?

>Okay then they aren't BBEGs.
That other anon is kind of missing the point with his real world comparison. Nobunaga could be considered a real world BBEG but he probably wasn't that more skilled than the average soldier when it comes to fighting.

For a purely Marital BBEG to work you'd need a ton of support for him. People that protect him and genuinely believe in his cause. His kingdom would need to be designed to prevent scry-and-fry tactics, he'd probably have casters putting up dozens of contingency spells, and would be loaded with magic items of all kinds. Honestly a BBEG Martial should be a threat in the same way old DnD Martials were, it wasn't their personal fighting ability though that was very good but the people that followed them.

Sadly with the way that DnD is setup there's just no way to have the Martial BBEG be a credible threat on his own. Even if you gave him the Sword of Perfect Anti-magic he's always 1 round away from being just a guy if someone manages to take it.
>>
>>97705171
>Sadly with the way that DnD is setup there's just no way to have the Martial BBEG be a credible threat on his own.
Exactly. In fact, with the way magic works in D&D, it's hard to take a campaign in it seriously at all. The magic is more ridiculous than in Harry Potter.

Sadly i dont own one. I undercoated black spray and then heavy dry brushed caliban green, then a lighter green then warpstone green. Then with brush painted the plaster a cream color.
Plan is to next dry brush the cream ushabti bone, go over all the cracks with a wash and then fix all the spillover ontl the green and give a final gaussblaster green highlight for the edges on the green walls. The orbs i will redo and work up to a flashgitz yellow instead of a green just to make it abit varied. Also paint some of the bits a gold or canoptek metal color. Without airbrush its taking forever!

What's the point of social skills? Evil people can't be reasoned with, and good people don't need to be. And even more than that, GMs never let you resolve a situation just by talking it out because that's anticlimactic.

And, you know, if you want to say something, you can just fucking say it.

Social skills objectively just don't do anything. So why the fuck do game designers keep adding these shitty trap options to their games?

For people who can't roleplay. They just make a dice roll to see if they can successfully interact with another being. Also so people can bitch about a system not promoting roleplay by expecting people to actually roleplay instead of rolling a dice

you'd be surprised though,
Sometimes people can just walk in if they look confident enough and they have the right name.
if they say they're mercs trying to sign up for the cause then they'd likely get in and then be able to filter into the processing area. if they get lost and it's not too suspicious they could play it off. once or twice.
i got into an evil lair pretending to be the musicians hired by the cult for a ritual. did help that my bard was an illusionist with enough circus training and instruments that he made it look real.

NTA but its very strange. If the beastmen try to head to head fight they lose super hard. Orcs are basically same stat line but have armor. They also have heavier unit in general. But beastmen absolutely annihilate them in speed, maneuverability, and tactical options. And beastmen monsters are really fucking good.

It's a toss up based on charging. But I give it slightly over to beastmen due to their magic being more useful and option, their ranged being way stronger, and ambush is amazing. Orcs have way way more staying power, and will almost always grind out against any army.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Yeah, if you want to say your race is superior you just find ways to do it, contrived or not.

Like IIRC the victorians on an hand did say that human hairlessness was a sure sign of superiority from apes and primitives were (supposedly) way hairier than us... but the europeans's beards were a sign of nobility, because it's like lion's manes.
>>
>>97709346
Depends on what Elvin believes were and their version of the creation of the setting.

It could just as easily be seen as humans being the “superior” OG and elves are some later knockoff creation (which might be how Elves originally saw themselves, them being the “true” children of the world and the younger races as a pale imitation)
>>
>>97709463
The Victorians were weird in a ton of ways and a constant source of inspiration for world building.
>>
>>97709482

Yes, and especially they are the ur-racists, really. Or at least THE mold for racism.
>>
>>97709386
No, but the game focus will be in America, not focusing so much on the rest of the world

It is strictly formed by the minds of people that are still alive, you can remain there but your body would be completely catatonic and knocked out, I'd say that native americans could definetely be able to travel there yeah

I was planning to copy psychonauts and persona in a way yes, but I didn't want it to be SO similar to them, rather than delving into their inner self or mind palace, it would be their dreams, what they want, how they feel, sometimes just straight up their current present moments. sometimes they mean a lot, sometimes it's just random dreams

I'm thinking of adding an opposing international force against the US Psycho Soldiers, to give it a proper conflict, and smaller, independent factions taking control of different parts of america, allowing the players to travel around

I'm also trying to think of the motivations and goals of both Dreamlabs (The big corp) and the Us government itself, my ideas are currently

>Dreamlabs has much higher lofty goals, they want the collective unconscious to become manifest and rush in an age of true connected information
>The Us government wants full control, to put the entire american people into a singular goal. to create unified war effort, unified voting power, etc.

Just grab an FDtM printer. The initial investment will pay itself back, and you'll have more terrain you'll know what to do with.
>>
>>97706130
hmm, that makes me think, maybe I will just use the library 3d printer instead? It is one of those ones that is ass for models since everything not at right angels is made up of jaggedy lines, but that doesn't seem like as much of a problem for larger terrain pieces.
>>
>>97576097
What is a good system for platoon level ancients/medieval?

Like around 30 models per side, larger than squad actions of like 5-15, but smaller than army actions of like 50+? Basically the largest amount of men a single officer could command in detail. The smallest scale where you command groups of models instead of single models.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

The most grounded works are accurate historical fiction. Next is shit like Tom Clancy's less bombastic works. Didn't happen, but could happen. Next is thriller shit like Splinter Cell. Then the Dark Knight Trilogy. Then there are several more layers until you get to actual fantasy. The second you include magic or clarketech, it stops being grounded.

There are ghost armies, trolls who turn into stone, magic swords that detect orcs, superhuman elves, magical herbology, undead ring liches, dragons, giant eagles, walking & talking trees, dwarves, magic doors, flaming shadow not!demons, wizards, Tom Bombadil, goblins, dragons...
