What kind of obsessions or hobbies would vampires or other undead have? They don't need to worry about time so money or the time needed to learn a skill wouldn't matter to them. Would they stay with the games/hobbies of their mortal youth or do you think they would gravitate to whatever would be popular in each era?
Obsessively scrolling the catalog and trying to police it. Just perfect.
Not undead, but still immortal, so the basic premise is the same. Arknights tackled this with the sui siblings. Each of them got fascinated by a facet of human culture, and decided to commit to it. From engineering, to the pursuit of art, to cooking, agriculture, commerce, you name it. The point is, you can have them obsess over something for all eternity (like liches usually do with magical knowledge), or chase the trends of mortal society to try and keep in touch with their former selves, or just the world in general.
>>97374598>asking for context that would help answer OP's nonsense questions is "catalog policing"You're fucking retarded.
>>97374648Why do you feel called out?
>>97374476I really like more gruesome stuff to fit undead. Partially aware zombies or skeletons that still eat food, rotted or otherwise, that either cause their stomachs to rupture in case of zombies or just linger in bits draped across bones for skeletons so they always smell terrible.
Hey thereI've decided to start a West Marches-style campaign on my LGS. It sounds the perfect style to run for a public setting w/ rotating players, but I myself have never DMed oneAny experiences, tips and advices regarding DM-ing/playing West Marches style games?Or general tips for running games on LGS ? For those unfamiliar with West Marches style, here is what google have to say about it:>Player-Driven Exploration: Players decide where to go and what to explore, venturing into unknown territory from a safe starting town.>Rotating Cast: A large pool of players participates, but different combinations of adventurers form parties for each session, preventing the need for a single regular group.>Sandbox World: The world is a sandbox, with the map and plot emerging as players discover new locations and rumors, rather than being dictated by the GM.>No Fixed Schedule: Sessions occur when players organize themselves, often on a voluntary basis.>Low GM Prep: The Game Master (GM) focuses on creating a world and potential encounters, responding to player choices, rather than crafting complex plots.>Self-Contained Sessions: Adventures are often designed to be resolved in a single session, with storylines evolving over time.Comment too long. >>97373422>absolutely nothing like a West MarchesWell, considering that Google's definition (made up of whatever the internet consensus is) has 6 definitions:>1. Exploration Focus: A sandbox world with uncharted areas that players map and discover as they venture out.>2. Persistent, Shared World: Actions by one group affect the world for others, creating a dynamic, evolving environment.>3. Hub & Spoke Model: Adventures start and end in a safe, central location (like a town or guild), with characters returning there between sessions.>4. Episodic/Serialized: Sessions are often self-contained adventures (like one-shots) that build upon each other, making it great for new GMs. All of these (4 out of 6) definitions are un-arguably part of what we are doing>5. Player-Driven Scheduling: Players organize sessions among themselves and the GM based on availability, rather than a fixed weekly time.>6. Large, Fluid Player Pool: Accommodates many players (even 50+) by having different groups play at different times, all part of the same world.Out of these, item 5 is also valid because A) this core group as 3~5 players that maybe be present at a given day, and B) we often do guests that may play a session here and there. And 6 because I'm planning to keep this the same world as the one from the LGS, so actions wouldn't be contained just between those few players (I wouldn't call WM if it was just the core group, to be a proper WM experience it should have at least 10+ players overall)But please do enlighten me how a definition that matches 6 out of 6 criteria is "nothing like it"Comment too long. >>97373447>nowWest Marches is from 2008 (the blog post explaining it; it was run in 2003), Anon. Hexcrawls (which is what you actually mean) have existed since 1974.
>>97374320>I'm going to just ask a Google robot to hallucinate a definition instead of looking at the blog of the guy who came up with it, where he spent a ton of effort defining it
>>97374697The definition the community takes, in the end of the day, ends up being more relevant than the definition of the original post ~20 years ago. Google gay robots, as gay as they are, provide you with basically an unholy amalgamation of what the internet has been posting. Thus, it is actually a decent quick portrait of what the overall consensus is. You're bait so you obviously know by this time I've watched & read tons of guides and seen pretty much all the popular definitions of this genreBut ok, if you want to go RAW, let's do it:>arsludi lamemage com, article #78, grand-experiments-west-marchesWe have 3 pillars:>1. There was no regular time: every session was scheduled by the players on the fly.>2. There was no regular party: each game had different players drawn from a pool of around 10-14 people.>3. There was no regular plot: The players decided where to go and what to do. It was a sandbox game in the sense that’s now used to describe video games like Grand Theft Auto, minus the missions. There was no mysterious old man sending them on quests. No overarching plot, just an overarching environment.Let's start with point 3. My game obviously satisfy this criteria because its a sandbox, there's no quest giver, there's no overarching plot. I started off giving 3 rumors for practical reasons: this is the first session, players are dumb AND not accustomed with having that level of agency. Through a party that has 20-year tradition of regular plot-driven campaigns into a sandbox without a plan is asking for disaster. Thus, I provided 3 rumors they could follow, with no promise they would work outPoint 2 is basically impossible to achieve w/ 1 session, since basically anything above 6 players is crazy for a single session. Nevertheless, considering we have +2 people that would join that party later and at least +6 coming in next Tuesday on the LGS, we would have, at minimum, 11 players accounted for. Thus, mathematically proven ( 10 < 11 < 14 )
>Dark elves exist to be evil elves>There's occasionally orcs that are noble savages rather than pillagers>Even dwarves have some evil equivalents like chaos dwarfs in warhammer and whatnotWhat would a "Dark" equivalent to gnomes be like? Can someone here explain why every player at lichess that loses a game refuses to resign? Instead, they wait for the clock to run out; why? Is this part of chess culture now? And then, if they lose, they ask for a rematch. But if you ask for a rematch, very rarely do they agree. WTF is their fucking problem? Goddamn passive aggressive faggots.

>>97373235yeah but interruptive effects are uncommon enough that you can just specifically flag them and don't let other effects activate.this is only a problem if you didn't think through what you were making and these were band-aids to late additions to the game you needed to design around to make work, which isn't the case at all. you know interruptive effects exist, you should design you sim around them, no other card game simulators have this issue despite having more complex state based activation.this isn't an "oops an off by 1 error snuck through" its a failure at the fundamental design level

And I am definitely having them associate droids with the undead, (so anytime local adventures talk about battling zombies or skeletons, know they were likely fighting droids)But one bit of… serendipity I want to put in was that the ship that rediscovered these “Dungeon worlds” was a Lucrehulk named: TFS Sigil (“TFS” standing for “Trade Federation Ship”)

>>97374240only played galactic cruise. i have a somewhat higher opinion of it than sweetland, but only moderatelyone preference for GC is the ability to get that one extra resource/action/etc when it's really desperate. It's nice to be able to finish something without needing to plan 100% exactly. you can cut corners a bit, but there is a premium. sweetlands in contrast can feel very high on arithmetic. your resources are granular, and you need to be precise with their deployment. neither action system is innovative, but i find the action system in Sweetlands to be actively boring. Spending one card or more per turn to fuel actions doesn't feel like multi-use cards, it feels like a slowly deflating balloon. when other players block your spot and force you to spend more cards, it can be actually crippling because you essentially lose a whole turn if you didn't prepare with a planned action or have money for another space. you might enjoy this element of interaction, however i think it feels too impactful for how incidental it is. most of the time people just want the space because it's good for them and didn't think about you at all. GC on the other hand the interaction is positive, so you're instead trying to think of how to not help other players too much to do what you need to do. it's a simple inversion, but to me it actually feels more relevant to making decisions. in both games you get to efficiency max and plan, but there's more resources to contest over in GC like guests to advertise, resource silos, and cards in the market. i like that these need to be replenished and someone gets rewarded for doing so. both games do shared achievements that all players want to get, but in Sweetlands the first player to grab it takes it away from everyone. In GC, you can still complete those goals, but being slower is definitively worse. Up to taste, but if i get beat by one turn to an objective because of player order i'm just annoyed. overall GC feels better developed
