If you could choose the set of core classes (in the PHB/core book and ideally the rest of the classes are designed around them) what would you choose?
They don't have to be identical to their current incarnations.

For me its,
>Ranger,
absorbs a lot of the fighter but keeps the independent survivalist schtick.
>Paladin,
Divine warrior with special abilities but no spells
>Rogue,
Sneaky stabby martial, basically as he is now
>Wizard,
>Druid,
>Cleric,
Default to being lightly armoured wandering friar tuck type character, but with options to put on some armour and bonk.

>What is the difference meaningfully between Monk 'wuxia' behaviour, fighter enhanced ability scores and rogue skills?
Lists of increasingly-wonky techniques on the Monk versus throwing big numbers into "default" rules until things get wonky on the Fighter versus using an actual skill subsystem that bundles functions into areas of proficiency that get wonky when you're That Good with the Rogue.

"Weaboo Fightan Magic" is an old pejorative for the Tome of Battle supplement for 3.5, back-porting a later-abandoned 4e prototype into a subsystem with classes substituting for the Fighter, Monk, and Paladin. It has stuff like covering your sword with a jet of flames for extra damage and reach at 3rd level, generally once per encounter due to the refresh mechanics but being 3.5 there are naturally shenanigans to loop.

>and what you mean by wargame abilities on the fighter
Before WotC got the IP, it was expected that higher-level characters eventually got positions of political power lording over increasing numbers of class-appropriate NPCs, which grounded the scope-creep of enemies surmounted in actual setting influence which in turn compensated for the proactive value of spellcasting by letting the Fighter send dudes to get things done in a number of places simultaneously because the casters became bosses of a lot less dudes. In the earliest versions, this directly cited the wargame preceding D&D called Chainmail for resolving combats with dozens to hundreds of participants.

I meant out of combat, sorry should have clarified.
I'm aware about the weaboo fightan magic but as it's written it looks like it'd have the usual awkwardness of the fighter and potentially also the monk sitting around whenever its not killing time while rogues and wizards solve everything, unless the GM gives the fighter a bone and he gets to punch a big rock.

I think every class should have a decent degree of application in and out of combat encounters. Overhauling the skill system a bit would help (Don't base skill ranks gained on INT). But also just giving every class some abilities related to non-combat action, just as tracking and survivalism to the Ranger/Fighter.
>>
>>97287187
>I meant out of combat
ToB on its own has teleportation, walking on air, and I think short-term invisibility. In the same Discipline, for some reason, which has a few things tied to a stealth skill. It's honestly a really good candidate for the whole setup just vibing as Fighter/Rogue with the seemingly-Wizard bits rectified by allowing those two their own Cool Shit in circumstances people actually play. Sure, people will TALK about Hulking Hurlers throwing osmium planetoids and using DC 100 skill checks for shit like a concert that brainwashes the crowd into will-gladly-die-for-you Fanatics, but actually using that long tail of 3.X in a session is AGONY because nothing lines up out there.

>unless the GM gives the fighter a bone and he gets to punch a big rock.
Inflating your ability score applies to all skills the ability affects and applying it to Strength lets you MOVE heavy objects for a variety of purposes.

>I think every class should have a decent degree of application in and out of combat encounters.
Given that the point of classes is boxing complementary party niches, I disagree with the idea that a given class should be a broadly-applicable thing. I'd much prefer just having a decent supply of class-independent build resources that actually let you be level-appropriately competent at a thing or two irrespective of your class, so that the tedious combinatorials this line of reasoning creates are emergent instead of hogging page-space.
>>
>>97287340
>level-appropriately competent at a thing or two irrespective of your class
That is vaguely the effect of skills, just implemented poorly as how much you get to interact with the system varies wildly by class and build.
>>
>>97277187
Classes are shit.
I run 5e without classes or levelling up for my wife and daughter. They are peasants that get incremental skills abilities and stat increases as their adventure brings it to them. Its great.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

I'm looking into ways of making my bases better.

So far I've seen I need to get a lot of cork, and putty.

What else should I get?

why are many creators so afraid of making a setting with napoleonic wars era technology?

They're a decent amount but they're niche for a variety of aforementioned reasons as well as a new one:
Most fans of that era are a specific historical fag that has deep and intractable concerns about the number of buttons on the cavalry coats of the 23rd Whogivesafuck in the year of 18old at the battle of eurotown34532 being a lighter hue of red because 2nd cousin of Duke Nonuts the 3rd's favourite colour was Tart Orange (#fb4d46 ) and he will get in your face about it. No one wants to deal with that.

If you haven't seen them
>Sludge
>Silver Bayonet
>Turnip 28
>Innocence: Cube War
are all in that area although no one has made a proper grand scale battle game for it which is a gap. I've been noodling with Blucher and contemplating adding fantastical rules. Mixing whichever DBA does Napoleonic era with Horde of the Things is also likely feasible.
>>
>>97287368
Thanks for the suggestions anon.
>>
>>97287345
The ACW should never be compared to the Napoleonic war, for one it's half a century later, and the equipment, tech, and weaponry heavily reflect that, but also the troops and officers very significantly less professionally drilled than Napoleonic armies
>>
>>97287345
ACW is a different kettle of fish. In Peninsular times, you'd advance into the literal fog of war. You wanted to be sure of the enemy's dispersement, and so if you were faced with a bank of riflesmoke (and occasional fire) it was safer to march in, break up stragglers and hold the ground than it was to sit still and lose men (not to mention becoming a target of cannon, counter charges by cavalry, etc.). This should not be assumed to cover siege/fortification fighting which was a different thing entirely. Plus skirmishers playing by different rules, as it were.
By the time of the ACW the infantry's rate of fire was such that only very close charges were advisable. If you marched a unit into a solid defence you lost that unit before they could arrive in close quarters. This is made more true as you move toward WW1 with the more widespread use of machinegun positions.
>>
>>97287447
>>97287451
ACW was later and the tech differed, yeah, but it's the human element I want to point at in this case, notice I brought up medieval lines as well. You can see that every night in a club, it's not easy to break up even two boys with fists flying.

Also, while training is a defining factor in how men behave under stress, the quality of such training was so prone to changing between one battle and another, even inside the same army, that it can hardly be used as a standard of any kind. Napoleon himself kept compalining about troop quality going down, until he fought with a large part of his army as militia at waterloo.

Maybe. With Xeno giving you a memory On Play if you have a card to discard I'm hesitant about letting you play him for free, and BT21 Zenith also letting you potentially play another Vemmon from the top of your deck I'm also concerned about getting to chain a free Tamer play into another free Tamer play (even if the chances are low). But I do recognize that the deck not getting any free Tamer plays at all is a bit of a weakness.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

4x Ladia Bale, the Inspirational

2x Lightning Charger
2x Mist Rias, Sonic Guardian
4x Protective Force
4x Reso Pacos, Clear Sky Guardian

4x Sol Galla, Halo Guardian
4x Thrumiss, Zephyr Guardian

It's just a personal preference of my to play something else in place of Thrumiss. To be clear, it's not an unplayable or overpowered card by any measure.

>What's your colors anyhow?
I'm a big fan of running Darkness Civ, but I do mess around with other stuff all the time (like F/N/D survivor decks). One of the best things about Duel Masters ending so soon in the west is that it left a lot of the game is still unexplored. You can still get a lot of mileage out of experimenting and messing around with deck list from current tournament events to just having fun with friends. It's really cool that people are still playing and supporting this game in the west.

Sorry, I should have clarified better that I would not be running ALL of seasons 8-12 but using them as guidelines and idea resources to run the short campaign. As for how long, I was thinking maybe from levels 1 to 5. Some of the players are major skeptics to the systems (one player in particular) but they have agreed that if I were to run they would play but only for a short campaign to get a feel for how the system works and whether "it's as bad as people say" basically.
>>
>>97287089
You do multiple ~15 min quick fights more for power fantasy and resource attrition. Blasting through a small pack of weak mooks with at-wills and maybe an encounter power lets the PCs feel strong while giving them a few nicks and bruises to eat away the their healing surges. This actually heightens feelings of progression and they also give bigger fights a greater sense of gravitas and grandeur compared to every fight being a 1+ hour tactical slog.
>>
>>97287194
>resource attrition
That only works if you prevent them from resting between fights. Otherwise all they're realistically losing is a couple healing surges which is incredibly marginal.
>>
>>97287218
As long as they are not trying to take long rests the minor healing surge attrition/rationing is the point. The idea is to get about 6 different encounters in between long rests rather than the 1 or 2 fights per long rest rhythm that 4e usually ended up with.

Violence.
Space colonization in the setup you describe and are basing it on are very chain of command oriented so don't suit well to most classic ttrpg modes of play where the players are directing their own fates. So either something with settlement building like if someone made a based version of The Quiet Year instead of a lame version, Kingdom if there's exactly 3 players and we're all cool, maybe that PBTA about space colonies or the real answer, use 3:16 Carnage and ham it up.

Bubblegum Crisis actually had it's own role playing game. I never had the chance to play it but one guy at my local comic shop was a fan of it

Question of the Thread:
Should mecha have hands? Should the hands be humanlike? If they shouldn't have hands, what should they have? If no hands, why even have arms?

half of all mecha content is pve video games, whats your point?
>>
>>97283697
Most of all mecha content is a boy and his robot type anime from the 70's-80's. Videogames would barely cover 10% of it, pve or otherwise, and they mostly stopped making them entirely about 10 years ago.

Which should have really have nothing to do with lancer. Neither of those games are primarily about dismantling yucky chudstates with your epic antifa builds anyway.
