>How exactly does explore work? Do you find planets to settle like in TI?
I don't think TI4 even has exploration, unless an expansion added that.

In Eclipse, you start off with only your home base and the galactic center revealed. Everything else is revealed with explore actions and involves drawing+placing random hex tiles. There are 3 sectors:
1) 1 distance to galactic center. Highest risk of NPCs, best reawards on average.
2) 2 distance to galactic center. Medium risk, medium reward.
3) 3+ distance. Lowest risk, lowest reward.

When you explore a tile, if there are no NPCs, you get to expand there, colonise the planets (if any), and take a discovery tile. Otherwise you have to clear away NPC ships first before you can do the same. It's more costly, but NPC-protected systems ALWAYS have a discovery tile and USUALLY have better planets for colonisation.

It's great fun and kind of necessary to spice up the game, but it's the biggest source of variance in the game. Someone might draw absolute garbage systems one after another, while someone else gets a bunch of free real estate in turn 1. Likewise with discovery tiles, all of them are be useful to some degree, but some will propel you massively forward and some are situational at best.

So the games tend to have a couple of clear leaders just based on the initial explorations and there can be little counterplay to directly contest them for the majority of the game.

cont.

>factions
7 in the base game: 6 aliums with one generic hoo-man faction on the flipside of each alium. I would say they all have a pretty good niche in their playstyle which is based in the core concepts of the game. These are good at expanding, these are good at research, these are good at fighting, these are good at building type of thing.

I have 4 expansion races, and kind of similar to Dune's expansions, they are interesting but trend in a more weird direction that doesn't flow quite as naturally from the core design or have as strong an identity. Unlike Dune at least, all factions are not inherently interlinked or balanced around each other being present, so it doesn't really matter as long as you like it. Just a small observation.

While osmosisposting is a problem, getting a name wrong might well just be a case of remembering it wrong. At some point in these threads I remember getting unreasonably annoyed by someone repeatedly calling Salina something like Serina, but that anon appeared to still kmow the substance of the lore while getting the name wrong. Bigger problem than mistakes with names are people coming in with assumptions and expectations not based on anything in the books and then acting like the game's in the wrong for not matching those assumptions and expectations.

I'll be honest, while the Low Key thing is a tip-off, I'm pretty sure he's osmosisposting rather than having read the source material without being biased ahead of time because the way he described No Key is very reminiscent of the way I was wanking him in the threads to prove a point on mortal potential a few years ago. I thought it was just a mistake last thread because he hadn't done that yet.

A lot of the time people complain about stuff that is neither bad nor contrarian, though, merely not in line with excpectations based on memes and Internet arguments.

I have no fucking idea what is going on, this is a S4U, I have checked it is leveled to the tabe, default settings (lychee) for my resin, all screws are tight, nothing is moving during print time.
Is my printer just fucking cursed and trying to print a demon?
>>
>>97360898

First, did you only print that one model? If yes, your leveling and everything with burn in layers is fine. If some stuff did not get printed, try the manual level app in the printer.
This looks like it could be the anti alias bug.

The motherboard has a problem with too many grey pixels in the same line, and moving from 9k to 16k enlarged the danger of that.

Ok bois, I need advice.
Good friend of mine's birthday is coming up.

He recently got a decent resin 3d printer and he's going nuts over it, printing 24/7, his girlfriend is starting to complain about the sudden appearance of resin minia of dubious taste in the house, etc.

I was thinking of maybe gifting him something "hobby related" but I am a total ignorant noob on 3d printing (all my minia comes from China recasters) so here it comes:

What the fuck can I give him as gift that it is 3d printing related?
Is UV curing station a trap?

So dice are out of the table, can I use bottle caps or coins instead? I'm playing Enneacraft currently and I honestly felt very comfortable using dice for counters.
>>
>>97359520
Yes. Bottlecaps and coins are legal counters, as long as each individual counter is represented by an individual coin or bottlecap (coins are also the most commonly-used counter). You could probably also find some models for counters pretty easily, if 3d printing is an option.
>>
>>97359520
You can use dice just fine. You can't use the faces to represent counters, but you can use the individual dice for that ie 2 counters = 2 dice. It's far better like this since most fancy deck boxes have a compartment for dice, meaning there's a lower chance of cheating since you can just pull them out/store them as needed.
>>
>>97360891
>You can use dice just fine. You just cannot use them the way that you were using them

Must the Cherion Group always be played in an antagonist role? Could there be a way they could be treated as the good guys in some way? Not a fan of how they always write it in the books like "you're the bad guy, you do it only for profit".
I'd love a chronicle that has Network Zero recon and interviewers, Null Mysteriis researchers and Cherion Group field control working to understand the supernaturals.
Also the research Cherion makes doesn't seem serious compared to Taskforce: Valkyrie or Null Mysteriis. Feels more like they just dissect the monster and take what works without understanding it.
>>
>>97361346
Aren't they sorta tolerated by the Beast Courts for some reason?
They always seemed like a weird inclusion when there's already a "wyrmist but not completely evil" faction of Ananasi, the Anatara do the whole "wyrm-corrupted" thing too and are just less Asian about it, and even the name was already taken by the Kumoti, who are the Wyld-aligned ones to begin with.

Profit-oriented groups don't always equate to being villains, but there is a moral ambivalence to the scenario yeah. They can never be an outright good guy if they're more self-interested.

>>97359670
Yeah, fair enough, and I generally agree.
>>
>>97314101
So I see the replies so far have been somewhat misinformative. Genestealers are sent out into space to infiltrate societies. They do this by first tainting the genepool. Despite what other anons have said this is not through rape or even sex. The genestealer will attack someone, and stab them with their tongue. This deposits a mutating strain into the victim's DNA, and they are let go. The person then goes on the reproduce, with each subsequent generation getting more mutated. It's very subtle at first so as not to draw attention. Meanwhile the genestealer developes into a Patriarch, and their psychic influence strengthens to the point they are a proper psyker. This new power allows the patriarch to begin whispering to the mutated across the world, and gathering them to him. He's seen as an angel come to herald the arival of the "true" Four-armed Emperor. The cultists begin infiltrating planetary systems, getting jobs or positions of trust and power so when the hive fleet arrives the planet will be crippled to defend itself. This all can take centuries which is fine as it helps the slow, subtle transformation to occur, establish itself, and hive fleets don't have faster than light capabilities anyway.

There's no building or painting involved with them, but I play GMT hex map wargames.
>What do you enjoy about them that you don't get from Warhammer Fantasy?
You get the operational level of warfare which is different from Warhammer. I also get to play them with a different group of people, mainly the history nerds in my family, while Warhammer is something I do with friends.

A bit of a tangent but I'd LIKE to play other miniature wargames, I just don't have the time. Painting up my warhams takes all the time as it is. I have a little conspiracy theory that James has been upping the details on their miniatures with pointless bits and pieces that anyway get drowned in the noise of the model and you won't actually notice them when you have an army on the table. I believe this is done deliberately to rob people of their free time so they are more locked in on Warhammer and don't get the opportunity/time to try something else. I'd be curious if anyone else had that same thought.

My character almost "died" but really he went on a wacky adventure in another dimension , honestly that's how I like to treat character resurrections, instead of coming back from literal death they where rescued by a time traveler in the last moment, or fell into a coma, or the character that you saw die was actually a clone etc....

>make "Avatar the RPG" based on the show where the Avatar travels the world with his friends to solve a cataclysmic historical issue plaguing the world
>you don't get to play as the avatar and his team
>instead you play as a random band of adventurers doing random things
>make "Root: The RPG" Based on the highly political war game Root
>you don't get to play a high stakes politics game
>instead you play as a random band of adventurers doing random things

>but I'm starting to notice a pattern of magpie games being very superficial with its theming.
Slapping random shit on PBTA and calling it good has been a 'design' style for a while. Its not good.

Aren't these the guys making a Fallen London tabletop?
I wonder how that'll go. Will OP complain that you can't play a giant bat-person? Will I still be able to fuck a squidman?

Only a nogames would think this is not only an issue, but isn't expected and the norm.

You're not forbidden from doing this, but you're heavily discouraged from doing this. It literally makes someone the main character, in terms of the plot, and heavily unbalances consequences between players.
>instead you play as a random band of adventurers doing random things
You say that like it's a bad thing. But it's not quite correct. What you do is be a band of people (who are capable of fighting) who are trying to be the good guys, and you go do good guy things. What kinds of things is up to you, but it leans into Avatar's world for its setting details and history to give you a backdrop and themes to play off of. Also, you're all assumed to be youths (unless you're the Mentor playbook), and your personal mess is defined by the two opposing principles that your character values, but hasn't made up their mind about, which is very thematic for characters in Avatar.

If the Root game is specifically about being the Vagabond then that's genuinely cool and probably the best thing you can do with it.

>Ah okay. That makes sense. So are unicool used in more than just ITS minis now?
Yes. If you look on the store, when in the product description it says "thermoplastic" it's siocast, "plastic resin" it's unicool

Guys, I ran into rather problematic situation. I got Marut from one of my country shops but when package arrived, turned out that he is missing his gun/arm part, having some other TAG leg instead but box is also missing quality control number. I don't know if CB would even accept misspack without one. What to do?

>I don't know if CB would even accept misspack without one.
They usually do. Just take good photos, email them and explain the situation. Be aware that they might not answer and the part may randomly appear in your mailbox two weeks later.

>I feel it's best I sorta hop in trial by fire style with my local group to learn everything
Yeah, it takes about 10 games to really get your feet under you. Just go in trying to utilize a different mechanic each time and you'll get it all figured out pretty quick
