I told this customer how young I was and she like moved from mommy to grandma. The patronizing and hugging was somehow more obnoxious than my sire's, but I survived, and the extras made it worth it.I focused on the things Boy Toy couldn't do, she plays the piano and I know my way around a guitar. I showed her my image in a mirror so she knew I ain't a Lasombra, then my shadow tentacle, "tested and approved by THE Venus in Furs", she threw herself on the bed, it was covered in rose petals and there was pair of towels folded into courting swans, kinda cool.Total pillow princess, I had to do all the work myself. Historically, a woman might have given birth to six children only for three to reach adulthood, with most deaths occurring during the first year. It was common for 40% to 50% of children to die before reaching puberty.Maternal mortality was equally prevalent. It is estimated that the number of women who died in childbirth rivaled the number of men who died in wars. In many peaceful eras, childbirth was actually more lethal to the female population than combat was to the male population. Before modern medicine, roughly 1 in 100 to 1 in 150 births resulted in the mother’s death. Because women had multiple pregnancies—often six to ten—their cumulative lifetime risk of dying in childbirth was as high as 1 in 10 or 1 in 20. In many cultures, children weren't named until they were a year old.Because the risk was so omnipresent, many cultures treated pregnancy with a solemnity that reflected the possibility of death. In many European traditions, women would go to confession or take the Eucharist before labor, often settling their affairs and drafting wills. If they survived, it was celebrated with a formal ceremony of thanksgiving. How would a fantasy setting tackle it? Let the childhood mortality be as high despite the presence of magic? Have healing magic be rare? Perhaps magic not having figure out how to deal with childbirth because of the two souls problem? Have magic solve the issue with the resulting population explosion? Have monsters/spirts that target children and pregnant women? Have lethality much higher than real life because monsters actively hunt humans?
All reasons for why magic is considered evil by the "Science Side", ie the modernists who follow modern liberal principles:1. Magic is anti-humanist. It's derived from the power of what's basically Satan, a primordial god that tried and failed to take over the universe. Whenever you use magic, you're basically channeling HER will.2. Magic is anti-meritocratic. 99% Mages are just born with their powers, and their ability is hard capped at birth. Hard work and effort don't matter, only your parentage does. It inevitably creates aristocratic clan based systems.3. Magic is sexist and gender essentialist. If you were born male, you can use magic but you can't "create" it or pass it on. If you were born female, you can pass on the gene to your kids but can't use it. So it inevitably creates patriarchal systems.4. Magic is inherently zero sum. All Mages are basically drawing from the same pool of power. Killing other Mages actively makes you stronger. This system can't allow for peaceful cooperation, it will incentivize Mages to kill and enslave each other.5. Magic is irrational. You can't really study it to get stronger, you can just hope the true masters of magic (Satan and his followers) just beam the knowledge to you because it helps their plans. The existence of magic makes science impossible.Wdyt?

>>97400178Fuck out of here with your shit game
>>97400178Currently reading it right now. In short, no, I don't think this game has much of a future.I see three main issues with it being generally accepted: 1: 5 different monster types having to share one rulebook and not being allowed to let their concepts breathe. So much of the game revolves around facilitating these, in reality, widely disparate creatures finding common cause with each other.2: The ruleset it's based on, Storypath Ultra, is better suited to action-adventure rather than immersive horror roleplay, further diluting its focus.3. Curseborne will forever be branded as a WoD replacement game, fairly or not, after Onyx Path lost the licenses to produce World and Chronicles of Darkness. Why play a knockoff when you can play the original?Curseborne isn't going to stand the test of time, and as it certainly isn't rousing much interest in me, I won't be losing any sleep over it.

I have this hang up where I think like half of the armies are pretty cool and I like them for various reasons. But then 1/4 of the armies I dislike so much that even fighting them would make me upset due to having to interact with them against my aesthetic will. That’s my problem with AoS.

heyjust got my first paint set on my birthday any tips for beginners?
Use matt spray varnish 24hrs after paint is cured for some extra durability. >
>>973944271. Make sure you clean up flashing and sprue points. Flashing is the lines where two parts of a mold meet and sprue points are where you cut models free from their plastic frame for assembly. It is easy to do this with a hobby knife or sand paper. Both show up pretty noticeablely when painted.2. Primer matters. If you are using Speed paint, contrast paint, etc. your primer should be a very light shade. Either white or light gray or light beige. Using dark colors basically make those paints useless. If using acrylics, pick whatever primer you want, it will effect the overall brightness of your paint.3. Shades. Shades can make even a mediocre paint job look much better. They are cheap as hell and last a long time. Definitely get them. Primer, paint, and shades are pretty much essential for all mini painting.
>>97400278As an example of shading.Pre shade on left and post shade on the right.
>>97398273my first mini turned out amazing. maybe you just suck
>>97394782Dude don’t recommend texture paint slop or contrast slop. Let him learn the fundamentals and traditional ways of doing things so he can grow into a skilled painter instead of a contrast slipper/textureslopper. OP I recommend you buy a can of primer and watch some YouTube videos on priming. After you’ve primed your models and they have had time to dry, you can begin painting. Again watch intro YouTube videos to learn basics about thinning down paint etc. if money isn’t an issue get a wet palette. Focus on learning the basics first, base coating, highlighting and brushing. Once you can do those to a good standard you can start looking into contrast/speed paints and learn how to make glazes etc. but get the basics down first. Also don’t stress, this is a relaxing hobby and no one judges beginners.

>dagger deals more damage than broadswordAt what point do you decide enough is enough and you won't respect a game that won't respect historically accurate weapons?
>>97376717Based.
As far as weapon selection is concerned, shouldn't they really be more about skill floor, skill ceiling, reach, and cost rather than "damage"? Like wow, the sword. Difficult to learn, pretty expensive compared to many other options, but if you're good with it you have a pretty good advantage against most others but still have a reach disadvantage against polearms. Still, a gentlemanly weapon (or at least potentially so, you could be a brokeass with a messer) so maybe you also get some advantage in social situations.Isn't damage numbers the most boring thing possible to differentiate weapons with?
>>97389294GURPS is less of a game, and more of a tookit for lazy faggots to "create" their own game. It's the AI slop of TTRPGs; you're not actually creating anything, you're just slapping together a bunch of pre-existing rules to make a worse version of a system specialized and made from scratch.
>>97388261None of those seem especially angry. More dismissive than anything.
Not sure where to ask this question but this seems to be the best place since you can't ask meta questions on /qst/. Would daggerheart lend itself well to a quest? My idea was to start a worldbuiling project where I run both an irl game and a quest, and I want to use the same system and setting for both, with them occasionally interacting. At the same time I'm kinda interested in daggerheart as a system and want to try it, so that's why I landed on that. Can I get some inputs and ideas?I'm aware this thread is likely to be either ignored or incendiary but I like to fuck around and find out
>>97399973>>>/qst/
>>97400031>>6229596>Therefore, only those people willing to put in the effort to be a quest author should post threads. If you do not intend to run a collaborative story, do not post a thread here! This includes meta-threadsI can't
>>97399973As someone who ran a few quests way back in the day, I'd say no system that exists is really made for quests. You need to make a system that suits your particular quest and is easily understood by whoever is coming and going at any given time you are running things. From what I understand of Daggerheart, you have two meta-currencies to juggle. Hope, for player characters to use many of their abilities and fudge rolls, which would be a pain in the ass to resolve in a thread format. Imagine every action players asking to perform needing to then go through whether or not to use tags or activate abilities or whatever. Then there's Fear, which is the GM's meta-currency for making things more dangerous, escalating problems, giving baddies extra attacks, or whatever. Again, everything that happens in the quest needing you to decide if and when you're going to activate an interrupting interjection while you are already juggling one or more player characters being controlled by several random assholes. This would be a bad way to try the system and a not especially successful quest, in my estimation.
>>97400042Thanks for the input, what systems were you using back then? Has anyone ever shared a system made for quests specifically?

>>97399337fuck you're right, that's on me
>>97393906>It's weaker than grease since it doesn't have a DC that scales like a normal spell, instead it uses the rules for slippery surfaces and uneven footing (Balance check vs Reflex save),I thought it calculates saves as normal but uses Balance check. Since for save it says "See text" and doesn't specify the DC would be a flat slippery thing but maybe that's my source site being incomplete.
>>97392739Weird, I read five nations but admittedly mostly focused on Karrnath so may have missed it when I went through Thrane. (Also not one of Keith's books so unsure how he'd vote, though IIRC she was a compromise position only created at WotC's insistence so players could potentially get an NPC True Resurrection, so maybe he doesn't really care)
>>97393906>>97399745If it's regular or severely slippery it's either a flat 10 or 15, +5 if charging +5 if downhill, The See Text in the saves section seems to imply it does calculate like a save and scales off your casting stat though so maybe it does, though the charging and downhill definitely still apply.
>>97398517Cheers.One of the things I like most about the 3.x era was that WotC were more willing to create whole new classes with whole new sets of mechanics, compared to the 5e style of "take an existing class and bolt a new subclass or option to it"Sure, it was hit or miss, but I'll take misses if they're flavourful and mechanically interesting. When everything is shackled to a base class it's harder to actually explore.
Any advice? They're all new to playing D&D as well as well so I'm hoping to fake it til I make it.
>>97398534The good part is that they're all new so many mistakes you make are not going to be noticed.
first, stop using all ai, then just actually come clean with them on the game day when you start the game and just tell them you really just wanted to play some games with them, then just play the gameor, alternatively, use as much ai as possible so that you can convince your friend group that you are both a liar and that you have no soul
I'm also trying for the first time and running simulations for the secret final bossIt's looking like it could either be a total curb stomp in either direction, or extremely drawn out depending on how the first few rolls go
>>97400044Truthful digits.
>>97398534>fake it til I make itThat's basically what it boils down to, anon. Almost every GM has a part of this. The thing is, when you run a show, most people are there to have a good time, and don't think too much about the whole thing. There may be some that know about the technical side more than the others, but as long as the show is running smooth, they're not gonna care about minor issues. A game is the same. Keep the ball running, don't stop everything for 20 minutes to check a rule, make a rule on the spot and wing it, check it later. Players are going to do something you don't expect, so don't plan too much, be ready to improvise. Have a broad understanding of what would happen in case the players did something, then react. Take notes to keep things consistent between sessions. You can say no, but be ready to allow alternative solutions, otherwise the game bogs down.

>>97400325Woulda, coulda, shoulda. They SHOULD have let it cook more. But they wanted to hit that release window they'd announced. They SHOULD have optimized it for consoles before releasing it on consoles. But that's hard. So they went ahead and let people preorder a flawed product with the idea that "we'll fix it eventually." It was more profitable in the short term to simply release the game in an unfinished and buggy state than delay it and miss deadlines. A lot of the promised features they'd announced still aren't in the game, but it's better than it used to be.
