If I'm we're strict about definitions (no hidden information, no randomness, no card-based play), then Chess. I have hated and loved this game since I was a kid. It's my most played by far. Crokinole if it counts. Yinsh.

Chess. Top 6% for my time control on Lichess back in the day. Twice in my life I was challenged offline by somebody bragging about being good at the game and they lost to me. I took a bit of time to study it after the last time that happened when I was hospitalized and got my rating over 2155. Never played seriously offline though.

It depends on the game. Battletech would not be the same without dice and GATOR. I don't like Gloomhaven but the modifier deck was a neat idea. Circadians: Chaos Order has a weird hybrid system where you can pay to roll the dice but you can use tactics cards with modifiers and various powers as well on this cardboard wheel thing. It's neat. I'm losing my fondness for dice these days though. Cards do so much.

So, I've deliberately included things that happen at tables which- when corrected for- actually produce roleplaying.

Here's the mistakes (and how to roleplay instead)

The mistake is that the player should know these rules. If they don't they learn them. Failing to learn the rules is not considerate of the time of the GM and other people at the table. Instead of naming what they do, they should describe what they do, roll the dice (I, as the GM should be able to trust you to know your rules and not cheat... this is called high trust tables). "My hands glow blue with the holy energy of my god, shooting energy out to Anazar (Eric's character) to heal 9 points".

This isn't something that a character would know. If you are trying to find who is most injured structure it in a way your character would learn this information, "I scan the battlefield for my allies to see who is most haggard" "GM: You see that Anazar is particularly wounded"

Needless mechanical description. Describe what the other players see and feel. The only relevant mechanical detail you need is the 9 hitpoints.

A vampire is a vampire regardless of game system.
That said it's more fun to all be on the same page when it comes to setting and tone, so using a game system that is explicitly written to play as vampires for a vampire game just makes the most sense.
There are very low odds I would find a group playing a system built for dungeon crawling to convert the whole system to fit everyone being vampires in a modern urban environment.

Easiest way would probably be something like a dungeon-crawler set in a megadungeon. Either limit the PCs to staying in the local town or don't allow them to leave the dungeon at all. From there, you can probably just explain as much or as little as you want about the megadungeon's inhabitants and how it was created. This kind of campaign is basically just about clearing rooms, speaking to dungeon inhabitants only when it might benefit the players.

Depends on the audience. Some people come to games for dungeon crawling, some people come to games for roleplay, some people come to take part in a story, and some come for all 3. The big things are what you define as 'backstory' for the purposes of the campaign, and what is just setting information.

I suppose if you wanted to take your premise as literally as possible, you could play through the creation myth of your setting, with divine figures running around causing chaos as proto-men cower in caves from their betters.

Good question. Will probably play a goblin girl myself to fit with the theme. Still in the planning phase but I'm considering just using Forbidden Lands as the setting, repurposed for everyone being cute girls. I've skimmed through it a bit already they have goblins and halflings technically being the same species, with 50% of children born to one coming out as the other and being raised by the same kind. That's a fun idea I can work with as an excuse. Maybe the males are rare, and they're all orcs or something, I don't know. I'm not sure what system I'll be using for actual play, but getting pretty adept at boostrapping systems together. I've been a bit obsessed with Mythras lately, and its grittiness does match the setting. I dunno if it really matches the tone of goblin adventurers though, anyone know of some other decent systems I can check out?

Forbidden Lands probably isnt a good idea for this sort of game, but I don't really feel like making one up myself and it already has a ton of content to explore with enough randomness to make solo play fun.

No, because it's pretty good. The mechanics are pretty superfluous. You have hope and fear metacurrency that players and dm get. You succeed and fail with hope and fear, and you're obligated to describe some "yes or no and" on the spot. Nobody is an actor with lots of experience so most tables will just ignore that core conceit of the system. When you ignore that stuff, you think why aren't we just playing D&D.
