Anon, why don't you try GURPS? It actually tries to represent how weapons work. I'll give an example.

A dagger deals thr -1 impaling damage, meaning one less than your default Thrusting profile. A broadsword deals either sw+1 cutting or thr+1 impaling damage. Both weapons scale with your strength, though the Swinging profile usually gets a lot more out of your physical abilities. The different damage types also represent the different natures of how you use them; an impaling weapon usually has low base damage, but deals 2x damage after calculating armor, and can target vulnerable areas like the Vitals which allow it to instantly kill a man with a good strike, while cutting only gets a 1.5x modifier. While somebody will say this is too complicated for their smooth fucking brain to comprehend, its what allows weapons to actually feel meaningfully different rather than like a bunch of identical paddles.

I don't know what game this is because OP is a faggot but daggers are cheaper, lighter, more concealable and often use a stat that does more than the one broadswords do so even if that was true there wouldn't be a gameplay reason for it to do more base damage.

I am trying to compile a couple of extra tables for some games in general for something I was working on. You got some good answers already but here's my take, which probably overlaps with the others a bit:

Traditional advice is to not start hexcrawling from session 1, just open at the entrance to your starting dungeon, so it might be completely superfluous to key anything on the overland map. That said no work on keying your map will be wasted because the pace of movement is no less than three hexes per day, modified by terrain; supposing the players start in Ostwich, even traveling through trackless forest will get them past column O in a few days and that amount of gameplay might not take more than 10-15 minutes at the table (depending on encounter rolls, of course). Ideally your whole starting overland map should be worked out before hexcrawling begins (but you can scrape through with less, especially if they're traveling with a particular goal in mind). As anons have said, one feature in every 6-10 hexes is ideal and they don't all have to be complex features.

15-25 rooms per level isn't full megadungeon level size, but yes, you should be fine with that. Factoring in empty rooms and such, 10 rooms/hour is a reasonable rough expectation for dungeoneering speed, and that's for experienced players; your group will likely be slower as they get used to the game.

>Roads
Roads should be a rarity in wilderness exploration for obvious reasons. This is a case where gameplay kind of diverges from realism; D&D kind of expects your game to be set in 19th or even 18th century America but with medieval trappings, not anything like the actual medieval Europe which was populated out the ass.

Roads also cause a gameplay problem because travel on them is fast and not subject to getting lost, which means that they naturally attract pathing and keep parties from striking out into the wilderness in more interesting ways. As such, they should be kept to a minimum.

Looking at your map I get the impression you're already basically doing this, but what tends to work best for D&D is if the setting is a post-catastrophic period when the land is severely depopulated and former thriving settlements have fallen to ruin, and/or were inhabited by inimical humanoids the whole time, so that the roads are gone and old castles, abbeys and even cities rich in artifacts lie abadoned and ripe for the plucking if they can only be found.

Considering all this, Anon's suggestion that the only roads leading through most of the map be very occasional Roman or not!Roman roads that are so robust they survive centuries of neglect and are almost considered magical artifacts by the present population is very sound. I do like the fat elf’s portrayal as a staunch vegetarian. I think that’s actually pretty useable for elves in other settings. And that the ass/dark elf isn’t one is also something you can play with.
E.x. Forest elves see Dark elves as brutal savages who eat flesh, whereas the Dark elves see the Forest elves’ vegetarianism as a sign of their overindulgence and hubris - and all this is stemming off of the simple fact that the elves in the forest have a lot more choice in their food supply than the ones that live in deserts/caves etc.

I only did it once and said theater kid had a blast. Turns out a lot of the time they only keep the act going because the others around them are but if you remove their influence they can be all to happy to go balls deep. He then ran his theater friends through it and most of them had a good time too and now that's how they play. One person made a stink and stormed off but I'm told they didn't like him much anyways.
