We've reached the point where GMs are now producing AI slop responses both in and out of character.

I'll admit that it started life as a D&D setting because that's what we were playing back in undergrad, but the issue isn't solely my inability to prompt. I periodically test things by going to AI art spaces and asking for help prompting the races. The goal is never to gotcha the prompters, just to check if the models are there yet. One of the recent things I was told to try was feeding the reference pieces into an AI to have it describe the image in prompt form, but feeding that back into an AI still missed a number of key physical features of every race I tried it with.

The four races I usually test are described here: https://files.catbox.moe/lu7n9o.pdf

Typically, AI generation will result in the loss or distortion of features like:
>bhedmi
>>skin lichen
>>horn and fingernail stone texture
>>extension of the mane onto and across the neck
>>symbiotic mane vegetation
>nasim
>>fulgridermis
>>nose and ear shapes
>>palm pads and finger webbing

Would love to share some YTers I like to use for inspiration. Looking for anyone you find helpful. Preferably smaller creators and not restricted to 5e. I’ll submit three that I really enjoy while I’m doing prep

First I’ll submit is Desk and Dorks. The channel is made by a medieval historian and combines his knowledge of subjects to enhance games.

I particularly like his take on Bronze Age fantasy and building better town guards

His YouTube videos aren't very good, but his articles are decent, and his twitch streams are okay. He has a series where he reads and talks about the original 3 d&d books that I found pretty enjoyable. But, yeah, his YouTube videos have this weird, breathless quality where it feels like he is really trying to blow minds or something.

Unless a person is solely talking about the layout, editing, and art of a book, there is zero reason to watch a review of a game they've done without playing the game or module. It's like reviewing a videogame by watching a looking at the box and watching let's plays.

That's why I like Seth Skworkowski, he only reviews shit he's run or played, so he actually has shit to say about it. There a million review channels that just have a static camera looking down on a pair of hands leading through a book and they have fuck all to say.
>>
>>97263179
Watching a review that goes over the basic mechanics, the options, the core gameplay loop, and tries to point out any glaring mechanical issues is worth something. A system can seem cool from the back cover elevator pitch, but unless you take the time to skim read everything, you might not pick up that the vibes and eye-catching presentation are covering a system that is otherwise just 5e in a different hat, or that the game is missing an important set of rules, or that everything is fucking busted, doesn't work as intended, or is just total bullshit to play.

Notepad's reviews aren't perfect by any stretch, and some are just outright gimmicks and memes instead of real reviews, but his style of quickly exploring the basics and noting any stand-out problems is not without merit. Especially when his competition for RPG reviews are the millions of pairs of hands awkwardly flipping through a book with nothing to say, as you pointed out.

It's a bit of a joke, the webcomic I was talking about sort of ends up with the MC, kind of a changeling, being a sort of mediator for the supernatural. Also
>Only one of them actually thinks the monsters might not be entirely bad guys
Kind of based frankly, but if no one will appreciate the work in the setting and the encounters I'm sure we will.
>>
>>97263175
Guess thats something I'll have to look up.
>Kinda based.
Shes one of the Imbued that thinks they should understand the Supernatural and that not everyone in the dark of the night is a monster. Of course, if this were ANY other universe, she might be right - but this is the World of Darkness. I have a special encounter planned for her character that might hopefully break her or, if she isn't broken, come out stronger than ever.
Or make her want to put a shotgun in her mouth.

>the setting full of vampires eager to enslave humanity
So, one step above the incompetent and self destructive boomer politicians and corpos trying to do the same thing?
>corporations pumping demons that want to possess you into everything in order to bring about an imminent apocalypse
Literal just enron. Only instead of demons it's cancer IRL.
Pretty lame all things considered.
>and a global conspiracy that has controlled all technological progress and societal development for the last half-millennium
That last one is literally just real life anon. However, the real life versions aren't wizards, just very wealthy inbreds, so a lot less cool.
The wizards also largely want what's best for humanity(though their idea of "Best" can very), the IRL version just want to masturbate about how rich and powerful they are.

It can work as the mother of all mirror worlds and conspiracies but you might as well make them an extension of the god machine, they are the humants tappin into all kinds of weird shit to keep the world from shattering.

No Shia, no African Islam, no fallen nobles turned bandits, no Christianized Arabs. No cave lizard, terror bird, or ant mounts. Ouch. There's still lots of possibilities though:
>Sufism: that might have made it through with the Mamluks. A dervish was traveling with them and ended up stuck here. They're periodically purged by the Ulama who dislikes their relatively lax interpretation of God.
>The Cult of the Supreme Creator: African cultures typically held that the world was created by one being. This idea became widespread in areas outside of the abode.
>The Timars failed to gain independence, but they took up important positions among the Emirates. Many Pashas are loyal to the Emirs and that puts pressure on the Janissaries.
>Muslims were very resistive to foreign missionaries. Even during the Crusades, which has left the number of apostates relatively negligible among the high born.
>Ironically, many 'prey' animals were immune to lycanthropy which seemed to target predatory animals en masse. Bison, Goats, Rams, Lamas, and even Elephants are still used as beasts of burden by humanity.
>>
>>97258311
Some anons tried to expand on this. I'll ad my own spin:
>Lycanthropy gets less and less infectious, to the point where it's nonexistent, the farther you get away from Mammals. For example: Amphibians and Insects are atypically not labeled 'beasts' and have very little in common with human biology, so they're completely safe. Octopi, Squid, Snails, numerous invertebrates are also safe to be around. Reptiles and fish are hit and miss, with Sharks the most potent carriers of both kingdoms while some lizards like the Iguana and the Bearded Dragon are pretty safe to be around. Birds were able to avoid infection due to being both genetically distant, and the ability to easily flee from lycanthropic monsters.
>Among mammals, smaller docile creatures like the fox and the porcupine survived and even prospered as hunting dogs were exterminated by paranoid humans. Humans are using more and more traps to fight off invasive hordes of rabbits, badgers, weasels, foxes, and now raccoons. Geographically, the biospheres look like this:
>Caliphate: Insects and Lizards prosper. Birds of Prey are the big cheese. Locusts have a lack of natural predators so they're increasingly becoming a menace to all kingdoms.
>Holy League: smaller mammals are prevalent. There's a big rabbit infestation right now. A lot of seaborne mammals call the southern coastline home.
>Elf land: docile bison and yaks are prevalent, arctic birds like puffins and arctic eagle are the dominant predators. Elves like to introduce terrible creatures from the planes.
>>
In the southern kingdoms, the Kingdom of God maintains the unity of the faith through the Holy Inquisition. The Inquisition is an order of clerics descended from the Severan Monastic Order that once settled doctrinal disputes and canonical law. Now they relentlessly hunt the foes of the Holy Church, be they Saracen or heretic, and will hunt monsters as Satan defiled the garden and brought lycanthropy into the world. Inquisitorial Acolytes tend to work in cells, answering to a Lord Inquisitor. These cells generally have four roles:

>The Investigator: generally, the captain of the squad. An expert in heresy investigations with a background in witch hunting, he's the one tasked with leading and managing the squad. He's the one who supervises the interrogations, judges the honesty of confessions, studying clues, and overseeing the inspection of suspicious zones. He also acts as Judge, Jury, and Executioner. Deciding who lives and who dies.
>Holy Blades: a squad of warriors that escorts the investigator. These men are atypically recruited from the knightly orders or from feudal levies and are authorized by the Investigator to kill anyone deemed an enemy of the faith. To symbolize their induction into the Blades, they are given swords anointed in holy water thus symbolizing their status as defenders of the Faith.
>Torturer: the name says all. They are the dead eyed men who apply the terrible tools of the Investigator to the accused. And they're good at it, recruited from the numerous prisons and dungeons that dot the southern lands. But the Inquisition doesn't just take the average Gaoler or Ramsay Bolton, nope. All torturers have a medical background and are entrusted with monster vivisections, often being sawbones in their former lives.
>Theologian: experts in religious theology and holy law. They are the ones who dictate conundrums like so and so is a saint, or if one vow of poverty is too extreme. They also make sure that the Investigator adheres to canonical law.

Just have their playstyle mirror a woman's natural proclivities
>physical weakness (they tend towards softer roles, like nuns, instead of warlike or socially dominant roles, like Paladins)
>gentleness and kindness (female healers are unmatched. The male psyche isn't as compatible with healing magic. The Father protects, but the Mother nourishes.)
>sublteness (women make fine diplomats and courtiers)
>emotional comprehension (last but not least, women are known for their affinity for emotional matters. They read deeper and understand more their and others emotional states.)

Introducing religious gender specific rites, secrets and experiences that are forbidden to the other sex.
You could try limited, gender specific magic.

You could try limited, gender specific magic, such as

You can have a lot of fun with it. Especially if you invert Femininity and try figure out the aspects of Masculinity

Yeah. Game honestly feels in a pretty weird spot where board and gameplay wise you'd think it would be a board game or at most an LCG but the Japanese addiction to gacha means no, it has to be a tcg, you will open packs looking for the golden foil signed $1000+ dollars cards and you will like it.

>People don't stay invested for whatever reason.
To be fair, people have barely been given the opportunity to be invested. The first English release was basically a self-sabotage shitshow (insert conspiracy theory here for why) and the second release they scrubbed as much of the brand's iconography as possible that was already proven successful in Japan.
All they gotta do is actually bring "Duel Masters" over and not whatever localized abomination Hasbro wants them to.
I agree with that Anon earlier saying that if they bring it over again they should get Takara Tomy to do it. WotC/Hasbro has got no fucking idea how to market a Japanese game.

You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor.

Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.

Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.

Considering 4chan killed trackable ips, I can understand if you don't believe this post if I claim that isn't me. Cause I can only speak to the fact that I've legitimately never seen a single person just run straight into the enemy whatever that troll is claiming. Frankly, in my experience with D&D and Pathfinder, everyone outright starts the fight going through every single possible ranged option or movement that lets them get around the foe. Like, the curling metaphor is apt, player characters get so antsy about approaching enemies in a head to head format that they'd rather hide behind terrain and snipe if possible before even thinking of sending in the fighters or barbarians, aka the guys whose jobs in D&D are to tank hits for the squishy guys. And even then, fighters and barbarians keep looking for whatever options lets them stab guys at a distance without being stabbed back. That's why I find the claim that people treat tabletop games like mmos hilarious, cause combat in those games resembles a square dance more than a fight.
>>
>>97262228
It's kind of sad to agree with yourself
>>
>>97250948
That will never work. Not because it wouldn't make sense, but because you're trying to bring sensible approach to the land of the mad. There either never was a real challenge and GM's already fudging rolls and adjusting monster HP to make sure the party prevails or the GM wants you to have a fair challenge and any attempts to cheese what was envisioned as such will get you punished for daring to challenge that vision and trying to outsmart your better. Just turn off your critical thinking and play along.
Or cheese aroud that whole pointless treadmill of numbers and doing voices and rolling the dice by realizing that the only truly sensible move is not to play.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

No, you need to answer my question before I murder you.

Im out of my depth here

TL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence.

-

I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era.

Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them.

I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body.

-

So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?

Cities has some magical edges you could use.

I guess it has more to do with how magical he wants things to be. Cities magic is lower to the ground, more like psionics. There's like 20 spells all a sentence long, there's summoning, there's channeling all your magic oomph into being a Monk/superhuman (no mystic adept allowed, no enchanter edge because it assumes magic items are things you adventure for). Doesn't play nice with cybernetics. It's very shadowrun inspired.

Worlds is high magic. You have bigass flashy spells per day (not vancian) and then also arts that use effort like normal like cities/psionics. Also you have a hp penalty. All the partial mages just have arts no capital S Spells™.

But he's got plenty of standalone novels that do similar things, too. Personally, I like Changeling and Madwand because they'd make a great campaign to wholesale rip off.

different anon here, just don't try using the existing Amber RPG system.
It is... fucking bizarre. It's diceless, chargen is done by bidding for stats, and the whole thing is exceedingly clunky and punishes not knowing exactly how to milk the system (and punishes not knowing what other players want in advance) far too heavily.
It's a fascinating read but a bad system, if you know the type of game.

Nagash fights Archaon, EoM fights the chaos gods and is starting to become an abstract entity instead of a guy who fights on the table

Thank you. Their trove only seems to have second (2016?) edition, but it's a start so I can have a look at how the rules actually work.

Am looking for pdfs of the most recent issues of White Dwarf. Issues 516, 517, 518 and/or 519 in particular.

I'm a little confused. I've only ever seen the 5e versions. Were the DCC adaptions book only?

TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom).

That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ.

Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.

What do you mean? Nothing in your post is suffering.
>>
>>97258134
No, not if you play with idiots. There is nothing wrong with negative consequences. If the players aren't allowed to make mistakes, there's no reason for them to show up.
>>
>>97228087
I don't, I let them unleash their chaos and suffer the aftermath.
