Have we done anything with John Browning yet? I've been discussing gun designs with a friend, and the subject of Browning came up with him getting started in this exact period. Of course, most of his more famous designs, the 1911, Hi-Power, .50 M2, etc. are from later, but he was still designing and making several firearms before the turn of the century. And we've nudged the development period of certain designs before, with the Maxim I believe.I'm just divided on whether to keep him pretty normal with a blank cheque from the government post-Paraguay, or work in something Hyperborean. He'd basically be a saint up there with everything he's made/going to make. Alternately, I thought about somebody finding a 1911 or something on the battlefields of Paraguay and it makes its way into his hands (2000 Psychic Wars!)
We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

The key squares of a pawn where it's the only (relevant) pawn on the board are if it's on the enemy side of the board all six squares directly in front of the pawn, and if it's on its own half of the board it has only 3 such key squares - you skip the row in between. What the hell is a key square? A key square means if the attacking king can occupy it, the pawn queens, if not it's a draw. So here the pawn is on d7, the key squares will be c5, d5 and e5 - skip a rank due to it being on your own side of the board remember? So these concepts are kind of clunky at first and can take time to get to know but they're well worth it if you want to be good at such endings. If white moves first: Kd2 Kc7 Kd3 Kd6 Kd4 - and the black king can never reach one of the key squares because the white key can gaurd them. Obviously if for example Ke6 instead white will just go Ke4, still stopping him from getting to the key square. The key squares are only different for a rook pawn, where the defending king only has to get to the last rank on the third file across c1/c8/f1/f8 for it to be a draw. It's more interesting if the king has to go to the side. For example if the position is a white pawn on b4 and the white king is on c1, and the black king is on f8 the key squares become a5, b5 and c5 and the attacker must get to one. But if he goes Kc2 Ke7 Kc3 Kd6 Kc4 Kc6 he again can't get to a key square. But if he goes for the a5 square instead: Kc2 Ke7 Kb3 Kd6 Ka4 Kc5 Ka5 and he's made it and he queens.

historically bandits often came from military deserters, so you could run with that. Maybe instead of a ragtag band of shitters with bad equipment, they're a highly trained unit with Fighter Levels. Alternatively maybe they're raiders from a neighboring kingdom who are hired to disrupt supply lines on purpose.

While nothing completely "stops you" from doing so, it's a TTRPG after all, the core game mechanics are designed exclusively around playing adventuring vagabonds and you're discouraged from pledging alliance to any one faction. The game also explicitly doesn't support starting the game as a member or official of any of the factions. You are allowed to subtly influence the war trough your adventures, but will always be trapped in the middle, and the war is meant to be a backdrop rather than a focal point. I still think the books are fine, but I'm starting to notice a pattern of magpie games being very superficial with its theming.

>>97359391Part of the problem applying "turning people into werewolves through bite" is that werewolves (especially garou) in both WoD and CofD start with a massive lead in power compared to the other splats. Concerns about crossovers aside, it would be hard to justify having the woofs as underdogs (heh) who have to hide from civilization if they could just turn people into nigh unkillable tanks, even if you had limitations like needing a full moon. They would be able to maintain the numbers to just tear down modern civilization and mages would be the only ones with a solid chance to stop them.WtA also has the issue that the weird reproduction of garou and the dysfunctional family dynamics it creates are deeply baked into the setting and gameplay. Much of the woofs history is tied to their struggles to keep their kinfolk alive, healthy and under control and metis being malformed is such a critical part of their history that one being born without any is a cosmic turning point for them. WtA would be vastly different if the garou could make normal humans into garou (just try imagining how the Red Talons would operate if that was the case)
